    Hi, really appreciate your presentation and the discount code. I’m going on a cruise March and I’m planning on purchasing GigSky plan. I just need clarification once I have the plan on. Do I turn off cellular for my T-Mobile service? Also, do I put the phone in airplane mode? I just don’t want to wind up with a $5000 cell phone bill if you could just clarify those instructions that would be greatthanks a lot.

      Ensure GigSky esim has service bars and set up as the primary data source and roaming set on. Prior to departure, turn off your T-Mobile service, then airplane mode may be toggled off without fear of crazy carrier data charges. Make sure you toggle off Wi-Fi , otherwise your phone will prioritize Wi-Fi for internet access over a cell service. If you don't purchase the cruise line internet package, the ship's Wi-Fi will still be available, but of course your phone will not see the internet! The only issues I had, when connected to GigSky internet data and it didn't work while at sea.... Wi-Fi was on...turn it off. Walking from one area of the ship to another.... and cell signal is lost....toggle Airplane mode on and off, to reestablish a signal....should happen automatically without doing this, but depends on phone and internal cell locations. The ship must be at least 12 miles from shore before the system turns on, however often times you can still get a land based signal within that range. Good luck.... A cruise plan will work anywhere on the Atlantic or Mediterranean Sea.

      @@barbarasousa8303 For me yes, however, I am a bit of a tech nerd and enjoy this sort of thing. I don't know what your technical skills are, or patience levels when diagnosing cell phone issues. One person very close to me, would lose patience quickly and throw the whole thing overboard (including maybe me) for what I would consider a minor problem. If you buy a cruise ship internet package, at least you will have technical support while on board. If you can't get GigSky working, while at sea, you won't be able to contact their tech support, and the ship's tech staff aren't going to help you with it.

Then the announcer starts talking super fast about all the side effects that can come with the drug like headaches, nausea, rapid heart beat, fever, diarrhea, vomiting, seizures, death… Linux could also be a pain in the butt!!! With that being said, I still love Linux 🤓

    It's amusing how many people are drawn to these "travel routers." Are they not aware that Windows 10 and 11 laptops have a built-in hotspot feature? Yes, you can enable a hotspot directly on your computer, allowing other devices to connect through it, essentially transforming your laptop into a router. There's no need for additional gadgets. It's akin to those who invest in mobile hotspots without realizing that many phones can function as hotspots, provided their carrier allows it. To set up a hotspot on Windows 11, navigate to: Settings > Network & Internet > Mobile Hotspot.

      Sorry to hear that but as stated in the video, the eSIM relies on the cruise ship having the Cellular-at-Sea service for the eSIM to connect to. Perhaps you can get a refund from the eSIM company since they were not able to use the service.

Since they skip it on the other days, they may just do one less PQF it for the sake of consistency. Most likely the first one.

    Thank you for the excellent episode! I really appreciate the clear structure of the video-it’s very well done. However, based on my experience, I believe it’s missing a couple of important pieces of input data: - Configuration of your PC with Caine Linux - Entropy level of the data on the source drive Both have a strong influence on the final performance. Also, here’s a little tip for the community: When formatting drives, consider using a larger NTFS or exFAT cluster size. This simple adjustment can noticeably improve the final write speed of DD/E01 image files.

    • @BlueMonkey4n6
      @BlueMonkey4n6 8 днів тому

      Excellent suggestions on the cluster size, I just did the default values that Windows uses as the starting point. I will add that to the list of possible future videos. Good points about the configuration of the computer and the entropy level of the drive. For this video, I was more focused on the difference between dd/E01 and NTFS/ExFAT so I figure a computer with a reasonable recent processor and enough RAM was sufficient. As for the source drive, I had it probably 80% filled with a mixture of data files (that lend well to compression) and video files (that wont compress).

      @BlueMonkey4n6 13 днів тому

      Thanks for the compliments and glad you found the videos useful. In terms of practice, here is what I have my class doing: 1. Boot Paladin on your forensic workstation and format a destination drive with NTFS and then do it again with ExFAT (for my Linux class I have them do ext4) 2. Boot the machine that you want to image with Paladin. Attach destination drive and perform these 3 types of imaging: 2a. Image to dd using 4GB segments and obtain a hash (MD5 or SHA1) 2b. Image to E01 using 4GB segments and compression and obtain a hash (MD5 or SHA1). Check that the hash matches the one when you imaged using dd. 2c. Perform a clone. Insert a USB thumbdrive into machine and use it for the output log. Once again check the hash to make sure it matches the one from the previous steps. Bonus: convert the clone image into an E01 image. Again always check the hash to ensure the image integrity. Not sure if this is what you are looking for but I hope it helps.

    Just another comment: I use the GL-iNet router when I stay at AirBnB locations with my D-Link cameras, as it's often difficult to find the router at these locations. I can connect the GL-iNet to the AirBnB Wi-Fi, then connect the camera to the GL-iNet, much like what's done in this video, although my D-Link cameras are on a Cloud account, so I can then view the camera from anywhere I have Internet access. Absolutely. The main reason is the engineers and the amount of work they do on this or that tool. When you make a freeware, there are not so many test cases and performance testing done with various PC configurations, OSs and everything. Typically, a status of free software leads to less accountabiity and that leads to less development effort. So I would predict very different results for such imagers under different conditions. As opposed to that, commercial imagers are faster. Hardware imagers are way faster than anything else due to the fact that vendors have a very specific hardware. So the engineering team can focus on performance with a specific set of hardware and software and deliver the best value. You know, to some extent, it's like a PlayStation 5 which is highly optimized to run all the games.

     @BlueMonkey4n6 sorry to jump in the band wagon... im no network expert so correct me if im wrong. yes you should connect the router on first instance when you onboard your wifi package so it can capture your IP\MAC address. i think some ships assign static IPs, dont know. anyway, you need to connect ur android device to router, now this is where i think cruise will detect this, will the cuise ship see another MAC on their network or will they only see the Routers MAC? In anycase, I think i read somwhere on redit that you connect your Phone first to the Cruise wifi network. then on your travel router, you clone the MAC address of your phone and set IP to static. This way, when the router connects to Cruise's network, it will see that its already has a MAC regiseted ie the phone and will allow the router to connect. hope someone on here has had experience and could shed some light!! Thanks

    • @BlueMonkey4n6
      @BlueMonkey4n6 15 днів тому

      The method you cited about using the phone first to connect is another valid way of connecting. That method is a bit more involved in my opinion that's why I recommend my method. The MAC cloning method has these steps: 1) log in to cruise network via phone and log out; 2) change MAC on router to match MAC on phone; 3) configure router to connect to ship WiFi 4) sign in to captive portal 5) all devices can now log into router The method I recommend has these steps: 1) log in to router network via phone 2) configure router to connect to ship WiFi 3) sign in to captive portal 4) all devices can now log into router To answer your question about the MAC that the ship will see, they will only see the MAC of the router and not of the devices behind it.

But you might want to ask Cunard if the Queen Anne has the Cellular At Sea service as that's what GigSky needs to function. Enjoy your cruise!

    • @BlueMonkey4n6

      Yes, it can work that way. But I like to use it for the security features and also ease of setup. So when I am going from hotel to hotel, I just need to setup the router at each hotel and all my other devices just need to log into the router and they dont need to be setup each time.

    I get an error when running the script at this point: "dism.exe /Mount-Wim /WimFile:Temp\boot64.wim /index:1 /MountDir:Temp\mount". I get additional errors after that that are similar. One of the errors is Error: 50, and the other is Error: 2. I unzipped the WinFE on a sanitized USB. I've tried with the USB formatted in both FAT32 and NTFS file systems. I get the error either way. When using the USB on the source machine, I get the option of either 64-bit or 32-bit environment. After I make the choice, it acts as though it is going to boot into the WinFE environment. A PowerShell window opens with the command X:\windows\system32>wpeinit. The next line just shows X:\windows\system32>. Any ideas where I might be going wrong?

      ah, that's a good question and I may have glossed over that. In my case, I setup an internal share with using Snapdrop (it's like AirDrop but for all system, not just Apple machines). But you could very well have used a thumb drive to transfer the keyfiles from the LXC container to other machines.

    • @BlueMonkey4n6

      You should not need to clone your phone's MAC address. Only if the captive portal only allows one device to sign in and you already used your phone to do that.

    Hi BlueMonkey 4n6, thank you very much for the insightful video. I live in a place with only access to captive wifi and have a sleeping tracking device that is not able to connect to captive wifi. With the operations described in the video, it seems like your method should get the job done. Just want to make sure: once you connect to the captive portal through the router with device A and connect device B to the router, you don't have to connect to the captive portal with device B right ? Thank you in advance for your answer.

    • @BlueMonkey4n6
      @BlueMonkey4n6 28 днів тому

      Hello, you have a really great practical usage for the travel router, thank you for sharing. You are correct that once device A has set up the router to connect to the captive portal, device B connecting to the router should not need to deal with the captive portal anymore.

My question is that once GigSky is activated do we put on airplane mode and turn off cellular data on our phones so we don’t incur increase costs? I’ve heard of people leaving a cruise ship with a $5000 cell phone bill and that’s something I want to avoid.
