In Search of the Lost Chord was a fav of mine as a school kid. I remember it and Pink Floyd's second album were in a kids thriller around this time - when I was about 12. They were great.
Ray wrote some of the best songs of the moodies!! Great artist!! RIP

The Moodies are one of my all-time favorite bands. The Other Side Of Life has a great video too. I've been to Ostend, Belgium on the English Channel. A quiet little tourist town. I think there is still a ferry service between Ostend and Dover UK. Once again great video.

'Veteran Cosmic Rocker' is another favorite of mine. A live show that I have from 1981 has a great version with good flute and some wild synth solos from the great Patrick Moraz.

I've been a Moodies fan since I was sixteen or so. The first album of theirs that I owned was A Question of Balance My favorite track outside of 'Question' and 'Melancholy Man' is 'And the Tide Rushes In', Ray's only song on here. The wave sound effects combined with the folly mandolin produce a nice, different sound that you don't usually get from them. I was surprised that this was Ray's only songwriting credit on here. Was he dealing with something in his private life that maybe had his attention instead of the band?

In the picture of the skiffle band you show, I've never seen a double bass that looked like that. Is that just an elaborate tea-chest bass? The reason I ask is that while the headstock and neck look like that of a double bass, the curvature is strange and the f-holes look different like they'd been hand carved. Does anyone know anything about this?
