Soil Solutions Series | Ep. 05 | Dead Zones in Soil #soilhealth #regenerativeagriculture
Struggling with soil that just won’t grow anything? You may have a high EC (electrical conductivity) or “dead zone” caused by excess sodium and salt. Glen Rabenberg and Dr. Tom Dykstra show how to use an EC meter to measure soil conductivity and explain the levels at which plants start to suffer. They also introduce calcium as a solution to neutralize high salts and restore your soil’s health. This video is packed with practical tips on how to tackle tough saline and sodic soils, from identifying the problem to fixing it for better crop yields.

They probably have an important role we dont yet understand tho.
those books are out of copyright, you could create a print on demand service (Amazon does this) and sell copies
Awesome. Thank you for sharing
Photograph ever page and share the knowledge.
Mind-blowing
Sir I have question, if refind suger has 22 hydrogen atoms then why doesn't it reduce soil pH..
Love this but every big industry has an affect on something ua-cam.com/users/shorts7b71YfVpoAw?si=06mo0D-Ec_vdfCvw
I transformed my farm in Ireland with minimal weed killer usage and minimal reseeding. I had a huge problem with dock leaves and thistles from compaction. All I did was keep topping them and trying not to compact the ground.... A few years later, majority of ragwort, thistles, docks etc have been killed and any seeds dormant in the soil are too deep at this point to germinate.
Older books are based on first principles, and that is what has been lost. Even old math books have gens long forgotten.
I thank you for this great information. Makes me wonder what besides the farming boom during the dust bowl was the natural factors
Water, when "burned", turns to gas, so really this excerpt provides no factual elucidation..
organic just means made of molecules containing carbon in this context. most of a plant is made of cellulose. cellulose is made of glucose. glucose comes from photosynthesis. photosynthesis is the process of turning carbon dioxide into glucose using water and sunlight. This is why when you burn a plant, almost the entire thing is turned back into carbon dioxide and leaves very little ash. That ash contains all the materials that didn't become gases during burning. Those materials come from the soil and are necessary for the plant to exist. Fertilizer is a concentration of compounds in the soil that plants need that don't come from air. It doesn't replace air, but no amount of air will replace these compounds. in nature, a plant will suck up these compounds to build its body, then when it dies, the compounds are broken back out of the remains for the next plant. when we farm, we take the plants away to be sold and with them all the compounds from the soil. So you either have to put dead stuff on the ground to biodegrade into those compounds, or you can put the compounds directly on the soil. Fertilizer has nothing to do with air and isn't there to replace it. The problem with fertilizer is that it moves with rain water to natural places and throws off the balance of the plants there.
In the age of phrenology and eugenics, slavery and voting restrictions, I seem to recall the crop yields were a tiny fraction of what they are now. In addition, poor or uncertain harvests were a fact of life as was high infant mortality from famine. If you yearn for the good old days, don't leave out context
6 carbons & 6 oxygens in glucose (C6H12O6), in gluccome from 6 (CO2) in air, however the 12 hydrogens come from 12 H2O molicules in the soil. Cellulose (C6H10O5)n, is made by removing an (H2O) from Glucose & attaching them together. Carbon Fixation be it C3, C4 or CAM, happens at the stomata, not in the soil. Nitrogen Fixation happens in shaded soil with Azotobacter bacteria fixing Nitrogen into ammonium & Mycorrhizae turning Ammonium into Urea. The amount of minerals left behind varies greatly with species. Calcium Sulfate(7.4pH) is the best calcium & sulfur for most but not all situations. Calcium Thiosulfate (CaS2O3) LimeSulfur(CalciumPolySulfide) are too water soluble to be safe, unless used by an expert who knows his soil, in small regular amounts. Gypsum is pH neutral & has a max solubility saturation point of (0.24%) which is a near perfect Calcium & Sulfur level, both for Fixation via FeMoCo & for making Sulfur Proteins in the plants.

Awesome video for reading Brix levels! Thanks.
Write it, document it Dennis
SOY IS A BLIGHT. ANYONE WHO GROWS SOY IS A BLIGHT.
Thank you #SaveSoil #Consciousplanet
Magnesium is a mobile nutrient it will show first on the lower leaves as the nutrient will be mobilized to the area of new growth.
So they’re fucking jipping us with low yielding seeds!
It's crazy because air doesn't weigh anything in the plant. Plants weigh stuff because they have matter. Air has nothing to do with their weight
Weeds are indicators is the easy way to say it.
This isn't the revelation you seem to think it is
CO2 to start with.
For the farmers and the gardeners this man is a gift from God...
I live in a state that uses salt on roads and runoff runs on lawn what can I apply to neutralize salt damage to the lawn?thanks
I just watched a quilting video about organic fabrics (linen, wool, cotton) carry a high frequency. Manmade fabrics do not.
Look up nitrogen fixation. That's a pretty central theme in this discussion. And regardless what any of these guys were hypothesizing, none had any real groundbreaking success until Norman borlaug. (And regardless how ppl feel about GMOs, that's where our major advancements have occurred since then. )
Air,,,,all roots need. Alittlw bit of air, but, to much air and the roots dry out,, there is. Agood soil density,, to soft and airy not good, to compact and roots cant dig threw it is bad as well,,, science, folls, its all science,,,, amd dig down,, if you have hard oacj, 3 feet down,, yohr fields will struggle
WTF, just no knowledge spouting idiocy
Don’t believe it’s true. Light green on new leaf is normal
We spread our seed wheat, and wherever a tire ran over the sown wheat, the wheat grew faster... same thing happens with grass seed..
Are you coming to Nashville Tennessee anytime soon for a seminar
So where did you go to college to find out all this information
He has balls to go against what he has been raised on.
OUTSTANDING
I focused on oxygen during the the fifth year of soil remediation on my mini farm. The improvement made a very noticeable difference. Much less disease/pest pressure and significantly better yield.
The best way to get air into the soil is have old decaying root channels and pathways that earthworms and microbes leave. Stop doing tillage. Tillage destroys channels for air and water to infiltrate.
You don't need a tractor, in no till gardening people use broad forks. The let air in without turning the soil, If you turn the soil it kills the life. Also a tractor compacts the soil.
This is probably the greatest gardening/soil video I've ever seen... To think the simple elements combine into such a complex and incredible process. So much sense. So it seems we don't feed the plant sugar... We just give it the necessary minerals to produce it's own sugar? I've heard giving the plant sugar can stop it from producing it's own.
ONE WORD........ ARTICHOKES
I stopped using chemical fertilizer about 10 years ago I use strictly organic fertilizer and compost My tomatoes and other vegetables have never been so healthy and productive I get the compost free from the town
I thought it was because that’s where the seed landed

Veey useful info! Thank you Glen!
No, that theory doesn't work in my part of the country
Hey guys, this is the first year I get citrus, and I can say almost all different cultivars (tangerine, orange, mandarin) have very low sugar. I fertilize regularly with both compost, manure and sometimes chemical. What could be the issue here? The trees are healthy
..... It's all because of the drones, i'm a space alien from outer space observing this fiasco unfold. I'm going to beam down beer and pizza so you guys can have a merry christmas🍺🍕🎅
