Changing the Cam in the 143 Cubic Inch Monster Milwaukee 8
Переглядів 3,9 тис.11 місяців тому
In this video I change the cam in a 2018 CVO RoadGlide with a 143 cubic inch motor that was built in a previous video. The new cam has about 0.060" more lift. So, I use a new technique to check piston to valve clearance without disassembling the rocker boxes. How to Install the Cam on a Stage 4 131 Harley Davidson Milwaukee 8 Road Glide

This is the third installment of our 131 Cubic Inch Milwaukee 8 engine build. In this episode I install the cam chest and the pushrods. The cam for this build is the Max-cell m837b cam. My favorite all around cam for 128 to 131 builds. This bike has mildly ported heads and made 152 hp and 152 ft/lbs of torque. Stick around till the end for quick dyno chart comparison of 3 different exhausts. Su...

How to install the Dirty Air Fast Up Rear Kit
I got the 110 big bore kit, BX2 heads, HPI , 63 injectors, 2to 1 smoke exhaust. from Fuel Moto put a woods 777 cam and its like riding a crouch rocket. breakout17 is a beast.
How is the take off from idle smoothness?Lets say when leaving out the clutch getting moving?I hated the 475 with this. Does your bike want to carry the same gear as stock or a gear lower at a given rpm? It sounds great
Yeah something tells me this should not have been this involved.
Really excellent video dude, probably the best one I've seen. Only thing is there are 3 washers on the starter idle gear, 2 flat ones and a wave washer. You should consider doing more sport bike videos like this if you get the chance, nice job 🤙
Thank you
883 are not slow. They’re just not as fast as the bigger bikes.
I didn’t see you measure the squish area. Is this not very important?
I probably didn’t film it. Thanks for watching
Mettici pasta nera se no perde
Video is well done and well edited. However, the background music drives me bonkers.
Sorry about that
Hey brother great video, is that why when I installed my HF cam- plate/oil pump that it drains down empty in 2 nights?? Been doing that since new, should I be concerned, runs fine, I do feel a little unbalanced rotation feeling between my legs still can't pinpoint that!! Ty in advance PS I have a 2005 twin cam fat boy 95 cubic inch 1550. Andrew's 37 gears driven cams, sounds like a 350 Chevy.
Thank you. I bet you have an oring that has failed or not installed between the cam plate and the right case. As far as the unbalanced issue, the crank runout might be excessive. Also the bigger pistons would not have the same weight as the stock setup causing balance issues. The twin cam b motors have two balancer so it should be relatively balanced
@@empcycleworks hey my man thank you very much for your response sorry for the delay. Yeah I guess I got to open it up and see the tolerance on that crank last time I checked was about a year ago and it was. 005 right at the mark.. 😳 yikes
love your video's bro. I subscribed
Thank you
Im planning on rebuild my 06 88. 1 & 2 this will be a great help. Thanks bro

10.5 is a high compression?
It’s more than stock.
Really good video. Thanks for that!
Thank you
Cheers very helpful
Thank you
Might be a stupid question but I have a 06 harley heritage softail classic 88cu in 5 speed just baught the fueling conversion kit an andrews 26n an new lifters does this video apply for my bike?
There may be some small differences. But for the most part, it will apply
@@empcycleworks awesome thanks man
this video gave me hope as i just lowsided my 2025 600 on a sandy road and scraped up the whole left side of the bike. Great video as well.
Thank you
Where's part 2??? F*cking Helene flooded mine to about the same level. I drained the primary before I ran it and it had the tiniest bit of water in it. Filled it, ran it, drained the primary again and it looked like a milk shake??? My buddies mech said that's not unusual. Anybody know why that is? Anyhow, drained tranny, think I did the primary 2 more times, and it ran fine for a week. Now I get all my lights but doesn't even try to turn over. It's a 2011 so I think they did away with the solenoid after '11. Gonna try this I guess
I had to completely rebuild everything on this bike. Including replacing the wiring harness.
Did you even clock the ring gaps up in the positions they’re supposed to be in?
I don’t think I did
You’re not supposed to drench the rings with oil
Thanks, I’ll install them dry next time!
@@empcycleworks yea most high end engine builder say yours supposed to oil the cylinders and piston skirts but not the rings
Hey bro. Just wanted to thank you. My bike just flooded in Milton and I'm no mechanic, but I drained everything out. Did a lot and it seems to run okay bhut started clicking. I took that solenoid off and you wouldn't t believe the corrosion in there in a week. I live on the river, so it was salt water. I cleaned it out, flushed it and it fired right up perfectly Even sounds better than before. Videos are great but you should go into more detail because it'll help more thank you
Thank you for the comment.
How long did that job take?
Usually 3 to 5 hours
Show brother, tutorial muito bom. Parabéns e obrigado pela aula.
Your welcome. Thank you for watching
What if water goes into the entire motor .mine just did . Need help . Water went completely over the seat .
I had to completely rebuild this entire bike. Probably not worth it if you are going to pay someone to do it
Hope you guys are doing well after the hurricane
Thank you. We got lucky this time
Sir, can such a machine be exported to Indonesia? Thank you.
Legally, I do not know.
Good square engine that is when you know it’s a good one when bore and stroke are close
Thank you
Hey man. i have 9000km's on this setup and last Saturday had a complete failure of the front outer cam bearing. It is labeled as a "Timken" but says made in china? Have you had any issues with this type of failure?
I don’t think I have ever seen a front outer bearing failure. I’ve seen both inner’s fail and the rear cam outer fail. Must of been a bad bearing.
@@empcycleworks Fueling went good for the whole kit and are sending me a brand new setup free of charge. They couldn't find the reason for the failure.
You installed the manifold then when you installed cam tensioner the manifold is gone! Just giving you sh!t, awsum video. I’ll watch it many times when rebuilding my 103. Thanks
Editing mistakes lol
Its about £1200 full job here.
How much hp should you be looking at with this upgrade?
I don’t remember exactly. Around 230 on c85 I think
I've owned over fifteen motorcycles, none of which we're a harley, my dream bike was a heritage.Soft air classic, which I just got adds in ninety seven, i've been a car in truck mechanic for over forty years, and i'm glad to say that I do not know anything about a harley, i need someone to follow, and if I can figure out how to do it, it's probably going to be you, i think I have a starter issue and go figure. The first video I see is you doing a starter on my bike,
Thank you. FYI - you don’t need completely remove the oil tank or clutch to replace the starter. I just find it easier with those parts out of the way.
Nice work👍🏿💯
Thank you
Seriously?!?! All that had to be removed from the primary? Just to change the starter? Omg.
You can do it without pulling the clutch and completely removing the oil tank. I just find it easier to remove it.
Thanks a lot!
Your welcome
Good video. Thank you for taking the time.
Your welcome. Thank you for watching
Where psi did you have on gauge when you set belt tension?
Normally it is 10psi. But you have to make sure you check at the tightest part of the travel
Horsepower??
I don’t remember exactly. Something like 115
@empcycleworks I didn't notice the video was a year old. Thanks for the reply!
EMP?
It’s the first letters in the names of my three daughters.
@@empcycleworks I see there is a club from the 60s that uses that every motherfucking place that's why I asked
How much HP did that put out?
Something like 115. I dont remember exactly
Really! That's pretty good numbers for thsg little of work
It's been a year now. How many times have parts broke on this beast?
I haven’t seen this motor back for repairs. We put a different cam in it and carbon wheels. Everything looked great
How much is that fueling kit?
Around $800 depending on the year and options
Around $800 depending on the year and options
Wouldn't gear drive be better then chain?..you are already in there
Gear drive has a greater cost. Budget was a factor. Also, I don’t think the cam grind is available on n gear drive
Very Good Video Good Sir. Thanks.
Was the engine cooling system able to handle the added heat energy.
It seemed to. We ran c85 so the fuel helped alot
@empcycleworks What HP, arrived after your build? Did you notice any balancing/vibration issues?
14's run on the hot side to begin with. Im thinking cooling would be an issue using pump gas.
what link size of your chain? please let me know ya!
530 with this setup
Funny how the twin Cam is a lot more work for cam chest than the M8 but they still charge the same price on both engines lol. Great video! I still ain’t trying this at home.
The first gen twin cam especially! Thanks for the comment
Most starters are removed for solenoid contact replacement. If you convert to the All Balls one piece starter jack shaft you will never have to pull a clutch hub again. That's because the AB jack shaft does not use the intermediate bushing the multi-piece stock jack shaft requires. This GREATLY speeds future starter removals for solenoid CONTACT REPLACEMENT which on these Denso OSGR Light Duty starters is easy and cheap since millions are used on cars and trucks. (Get the kits with the seals etc. They're about 20 bucks.) It's also a very good idea to take advantage of the Denso coaxial solenoid design and install a pushbutton end cap. Those bypass the entire starter control system including the solenoid windings. If you forget to install that simple end cover and can't start your bike, remove the end cover then use a screwdriver to push the solenoid core inwards (BE SURE your bike is in neutral).
Great information! Thank you
How much would it cost to have a shop do this job?
Depends where you live. 5 to 10 hours labor
@@empcycleworks Thanks 👍🏻
