    This was a great video for me to watch as a refresher course. Used to build a lot of engines when I was a young man . Shovelheads, small block Chevys, Pontiac 389 cid Tri-powers and so on. It’s been awhile though and now I am confident that I can rebuild the TC 103s on my my two Harleys when the time comes. Going to have to replace some of the tools that I used to have several moves ago but it will be worth the cost. Thank you for posting this. You have a new subscriber here. Keep up the good work.

    Can't you use the timing marks on the cam sprockets to determine top dead center? Marks closest to each other would be TDC for rear and marks both at top of each sprocket would be TDC for front ?

    • @empcycleworks
      @empcycleworks  Рік тому +1

      You probably can use it for an estimated tdc. I’m not sure the orientation and which cylinder the marks line up with. I don’t think front and rear would be 180 from the front on the cam marks. As far as tdc goes front and rear are not at the same point of crank rotation due to the single crank pin. (The pistons are not at the top of the cylinder at the same time) When I need top dead center, for cam timing, I use a degree wheel and positive stop.

    Really enjoy watching your motor builds. Curious, why does Harley use such high inch lbs instead of low ft lbs. 110 - 9 120 - 10 Curious.

    • @empcycleworks

      Thanks for the comment! I think the service manual uses inch pounds for anything 10 ft pounds and under.

    Great video. Thanks. How do you feel about a Timken crank bearing upgrade? Some builders insist that it is needed. However, I see allot of high horse engines out there on the road with stock style bearings.

    • @empcycleworks
      @empcycleworks  10 місяців тому +1

      I think it’s a good upgrade if your crank needs service. Certainly not 100% necessary.

    Love the videos…looking at upgrading my 07 fatboy 96ci to a 107 and heads. Ive had cams, oil pump and cam plate already and was told I had 11 thou run out on crank. Would you do the build without doing the crank or just be happy with what I have?

    • @empcycleworks
      @empcycleworks  Рік тому +1

      11 thou is to much run out for my liking. What cam plate and oil pump do you have installed? Most of the after market setups want a maximum of 0.005" run out on the pinion.
      Before you build a 107 I would get that crank serviced.
      Thanks for the comment!

I think i want to change out the tuner for better tuning. Now i have to clutch is slipping, so gonna add new clutch so it stops slipping during acceleration.

    Thats awesome work man! its nice quality workmanship like this!
    Question about the heads you used, They say "screamin eagle" on them, are they off of a 110?

    • @empcycleworks
      @empcycleworks  Рік тому +1

      These heads are straight out of the Screamin Eagle catalog at the time this motor was originally assembled. They would have came in the 103 Performance crate engine, before they came out with the 110. Im not sure about what the difference is between these heads and one that come with he 110.

    Any reason why you’re using the stock cam plate...

    • @empcycleworks
      @empcycleworks  Рік тому +2

      The budget! The late model TwinCam camplates are a pretty good unit. I used the Feuling HP Plus oil pump, lifters and pressure relief valve on this motor and it has 40 psi oil pressure at idle. If the budget would of allowed, upgrading to the fueling race series or S&S camplate/oil pump are my go to. Thanks for the comment

    I've heard I needed to check piston deck height without the rings before install. Is that something you do? I didn't go crazy with the build, just going for 103 to 107 with a 590 cam. Is there any other checks I need to do or should it be fine in your opinion?

    • @empcycleworks
      @empcycleworks  6 місяців тому +1

      Yes that is a good thing to check. In most instances you can get by with a straight edge and a feeler gauge to measure it. Every part has different tolerances. I do check that.

    What was the torque spec for the bolts that hold the engine to the transmission? I haven’t been able to find it anywhere and I’m not sure if there’s an actual Torque spec

    • @alanwhiteside410
      @alanwhiteside410 4 місяці тому

      There is a torque for every bolt made. You can find torque charts on Google Images I screenshot things like that and file them in a special file on my cell phone I titled “Charts” for future reference.
