It took me 25 years to get to where I am today. Loving music is not enough. It takes doing the work that no one sees in the hopes of attaining an outcome that is not guaranteed.
If you love to compose as much as I do, then you’ll never stop doing it.

How Can Composers Deal With Writer’s Block?
Hey Saad, I am wanting to get the full score of this fanfare in time for Christmas...when I went on the website, it sent me back to this demo video...I'll shoot you an email about it...Great piece!!!
Here is a better workflow on how to create reusable Aleatoric Boxes in Dorico 5: ua-cam.com/video/bGtwMG-tybM/v-deo.htmlsi=DP6grXsSCvx3sx5G
it reminds me of rhett butler and and scarlett on their last night
As a young composer in middle school, you have become one of my inspirations
Really nice. Very interesting textures!
Bravo!! Bach always!
I enjoyed listening very much. Those quarter tones are a beautiful spice 👏
Thank you 🙏🏽
Hello Saad thank you for the great info. I am Canadian and I am an Instrumental piano player and composer, I am setting up a website to sell both my sheetmusic and audio files. For my sheetmusic is all I need is the c symbol on the front of my piece since I have registered my music audio files with SOCAN?
Thanks!
Wow, just saw this, thank you again Destiny! I will see you on a call soon!
Thank you, im excited to watch :) all the best
I study but I struggle to implement into my pieces. How do you implement the works you’ve studied and how have you learned from it?
I'm, actually in orchestra. had a concert at 6 today.

Yours is a very impressive course. It is not devoted to music theory so much as to inculcating good habits and attitudes. There are many online courses that deal with “how to do” theory, which has perhaps led to a widespread notion that advanced techniques and complexity are the ultimate goal of music. Your course is more about practical steps that are applicable to all stages of experience and understanding. Rather than complexity, it is simplicity that one should strive for. One aspect you didn’t really touch on is the bewildering variety of musical approaches taken by contemporary composers, which can make analysing or even appreciating their work extremely difficult. Influences range from early medieval to modern AI generated “non musical” patterns. Each composer seems to set up their own personal set of rules, which has atomised the whole field and made it much more difficult for beginners to transition from first principles to understanding what is being composed today. As a part time musical hobbyist with little to no chance of hearing my work performed (and a strong sense of imposter syndrome) I take comfort in your comments about intrinsic motivation, and an awareness that the process itself being a worthwhile activity.
If there are no geniuses, then there is nothing to work towards. pure cope.
50 minutes in we start discussing actual music only to study a piece for.... woodblock. Sigh. I'll stick with Alan Belkin
Sorry, 2400 bucks for 8 hours of classroom time and 2 hours of grading homework? Did I miss a few decades of inflation?
Can you explain this technique??
What you have accomplished here is heroic!!!
You're a mad man for this!
As a Romanian myself, I'm proud of this project. 😊
Thanks!
Thank you, Saad. Great effort. I will look into it when I have some free time.
Something i always are erasable pens for composing looks much cleaner than pencil. I always find it frustrating to be writing something down, and suddenly, the pencil is dull, and everything looks so messy. That is when i use manuscript paper, but i much prefer a daw. It helps me visual time better than in my head. And i am able to instantly record ideas and save them. Thanks for the video! Lots of helpful things, much appreciation.
Awesome :)
Thank you for your work
You are very welcome
This looks incredibly useful, Saad - thanks very much indeed. I'll digest it in chunks (!) and give it a share around. Five and a half hours is a pretty colossal effort and you're probably ready for a long lie-down 🤣
Thanks Bill! This is the stuff I wish I knew years ago 🫡
Brother, thank you for taking time out of your busy life to document this for all of us.

That's a great project! Thank you, Dr.Saad
You are welcome!
I was the first view & comment 🎉🎉.

Yeah rhythms kicks every ones behind... But one of the most essential element
LOVE IT
Beautifully said, Saad! I was beginning to think that only a few old guys like me still writing and notating music by hand were the few and the brave! Your logic of the mind to muscle connection in writing music is spot on. Hopefully more will see this video and use their Sibelius mainly for the final draft of their composition as opposed to it being a total end in itself.
Absolutely 💯
Not just interesting it sounds good
Thank you 🫡✍🏽🫡

Is the Harp itself in tune from the start to 2m 05s?
There’s scordatura on a bunch of the pitches
Can I hear a version where the notation itself plays?
Not sure what you mean. This is the only audio version of the piece so far
@@saadhaddadmusic I believe she wants a cursor to move with the music to catch up with where we are in the score.
The part at around 12:58 finally tipped me over from the brink of tears. So satisfying!
Glad you enjoyed it 🥂
"especially composers whose primary focus is to write for the concert hall". This guy's primary focus is as an educator. That's his real job. He "can" compose (and he ain't bad) but he only makes a fraction from that compared to his real job. A little disingenuous and more infotainment than informative.
Every composer I know makes more money as an educator than as a composer. I’m simply letting you all know so you’re not surprised later in life like I was. If you don’t like it I’m sorry! But that’s the truth of our business.
Thanks so much your share
bravo
what temperament system does this piece use? I dont think ive heard harp outside of 12tet before
It’s built on a series of Arab maqamat
I love how this is so idiomatic for harp, but it doesn’t feel like (most) harp music.
a lot of fun to write as well!
