My forte is vintage Detroit musclecars but the reality is that daily drivers are otherwise. So, I found your video extremely helpful when tackling a brake job on my wife’s 2016 Passat. However, as I dug into it I was surprised at how closely the Passat front disc system resembles the single-piston front disc brakes on my 1970 Plymouth Barracuda. So in the end the wrenching was pretty familiar. Amazing how the design and engineering has persisted for over half a century! Keep up the great work. Now I know where to turn when a VW maintenance issue arises. Regards, Jack
Awesome comparison. Thank you. Yes disk brakes haven’t changed much. Same basic technology. Wrenching is about the same. I appreciate the comment. Yea I learned brakes on my 1978 z28 Camaro. Haven’t paid someone to do it since about 1988. It’s a dirty job but rewarding also. Thanks again 💯👍🏼😎
I have a 2009 cc and mine doesn’t have that button in the glove please help
Not sure about the CC. Sorry bout that 👍🏼😎
I never changed my spark plugs. Since I got it and it has a hundred and forty thousand miles
Sounds like you are due 🤣. 💯👍🏼
If the coils are hard to get out and make a suction pop sound coming out your good. But if the coil easily pulls out it's prolly faulty
Most likely yes 👍🏼
I just purchased a 2016 Passat SE today that I am picking up tomorrow. Enjoying all of your informative videos!
Appreciate that. Congratulations on your car. 👍🏼😎💯
Should've used the OEM spoiler from the Passat GT VR6. Sometimes less is more.
I like that one too. But this one is perfect for me. Not too big just right. I thought about OEM but didn’t. I’m pretty happy
Great video ☺️💙
Appreciate that. Thank you 💯😎👍🏼
I started modifying my 2016 VW Passat S (Black) after watching your videos. (LEDS/Wheels/Dynamic turn signals) & noticed the wiper arms were too faded just like you mentioned lol!! once again thank you for these videos, I am gonna try to restore mine pretty soon..
Great! Thank you and I need to get back to doing more things to it. What dynamic turns did u get? I’ve not put any on mine yet. Hard to find good fit
@@grind-it-out I got it from ledperf. look for passat VII model in there even though it says 2010-2015.
@@grind-it-out try ledperf. look for Passat vii model
Besides intake is there anything elae done??
Ignition coils. Brakes, led lights throughout, wheels etc…
I knew when I was yanking on my mirrors there had to be another way. Thank u
Yesss! Thank you 💯👍🏼😎
That triple square socket is that the same one that’s used inside the door for the rod that’s mounted on the pillar? Or is it a different socket?
Good question I don’t know. But it is a 14mm triple square. So if you have it it’s good. Not sure about the pillar rod. But Audi loves these bolts so I wouldn’t be surprised. Thanks for the comment I wish I had a more specific answer. 👍🏼💯😎
@@grind-it-out gotcha thanks for the response. I’ve never seen that type of screw before so when I seen this in the video I had to ask😅. The one in my wife’s Tiguan keeps getting loose. I’m going to buy to test it out
Actually they are 1 time use bolts but lock tight can get you another use. They are stretch bolts or whatever you call them. Actually you can pick the socket up at oreilly auto parts. I think I got 3 different sizes for 10 bucks.
@@grind-it-out gotcha thanks a lot 🙏🏾
💯
Ive been lazy and have been getting it done at a shop with a groupon. They finally figured out they were undercharging me on the oil (hooray European life). Back to doing it myself. The engine flush was a good touch definitely much needed on mine (148k).
I'm gonna do this to my house and vanity mirrors too lol so cool 😂
Absolutely it works the same ha! 💯👍🏼😎
Glad you did the Driver side without the sensor. This is the only video I've come across that shows the driver side. I cut the sensor before i came to this video because i didn't see it on the current ones. I'm just glad I didn't make a mistake.
Nice! Thanks for watching and it sounds like it worked out ok for you. Some models have the sensors and some don’t. Appreciate the comment 💯👍🏼😎
What wheels and tires are those
ESR is the wheel brand. Nitto tires.
#1 and #4 are base model problems. Like most cars if you go up in trim levels you get more sound deadening, and in this particular car going up to SE gets you some decent fake leather that wears well and is fairly easy to clean. #3 and #5 are pretty much par for the course on any car these days, especially the under body panels.
That’s exactly right. You get what you pay for. I appreciate the comment and thanks for watching 👍🏼💯😎
I'm only 5 foot 5 inches tall and I have a 2020 Santa Fe. I cannot reach the passenger-side blade, even hooking myself up in the driver's door. Can the passenger side blade by replaced in the "stowed" position or am I going to need a step stool to get up there?
Good question…. It’s possible yes in stowed position. It’s my parents vehicle and they live out of state. I always maintain their cars when I visit them. But a step stool is probably your best bet. Thanks for watching I appreciate it. 👍🏼💯😎
Is the stock exhaust 2.25 or 2.5?
2.25
thanks for the video, very help full
You bet. Thanks for watching 💯👍🏼😎
That was easy thanks a lot!!
You bet! 💯👍🏼😎
Hey, love your videos..... Especially these wheels you got. Did you end up fixing the slight wheel exposure from the rim? If so, how? I want to get these for my '18 passat GT, not sure to go 19s or 18s though.
Yea I’ve not done anything yet but coilovers will come soon then I’ll pull out fender a little in front. I’d go 19’s for GT but 18 has better ride. I appreciate the compliment. Thanks for watching 💯👍🏼😎
Anyone know how to put transmission oil into a 2022 VW Passat. I accidentally emptied the transmission oil vs the engine oil:(
Ohh my …. Well I’d recommend taking it in to get transmission service. Especially a 2022. They will flush it and do everything
I love your videos!!!
Thanks I appreciate that. And thanks for watching 👍🏼💯😎
Pls Sel
Is the torque wrench necessary or can I do without?
Yes you can do without. I’m just trying to show the proper way. Just don’t over tighten the guide pin bolts.
@@grind-it-out is it better just to hand tighten the guide pins?
No tighter than hand tight. Just slightly over snug. Half turn after it stops with ratchet
Solid video, but you used about 1000x more brake lubricant that you needed to. All that grease is just going to collect dirt, sand and road debris.
👍🏼
Thank you much!
You’re welcome. Thanks for watching 👍🏼💯😎
6:25 That’s what she said!
🤣
Ty!
💯😎👍🏼
Great video very helpful
Thanks very much for watching. I try to make it simple. 😎💯👍🏼
I can't find the oem rotor sizes
Thanks ❤
👍🏼💯😎
This helped a lot! Got my 2017 ready to roll with new plugs and coils. Thanks!
Good knowing I helped. It’s not to bad of a job. Happy to know your doing it yourself. I appreciate the comment and thanks for watching 👍🏼💯😎
Great video very detailed good to know I will need different tools (for rear) Great channel as well
Thank you for the nice words 😊. The rear brakes are more difficult. Try to get the rotors out without removing the carrier. Those triple square bolts are a challenge. Good luck and thanks again 👍🏼💯😎
@@grind-it-out everything worked out great with plenty of penetrating fluid & long/extended rachet handle Thank you again
Awesome!!! Thank you 💯😎👍🏼
How did you wrap under the mirror?
That’s just the turn signal glass. Plastic or whatever. I just layed hex tint down on it. Super easy. VViViD hex tint.
Ohhhh your talking about the chrome on the door. Yea just had to take my time. It kinda sucks but I did it. It’s far from perfect but it looks ok. Get your razor knife in there and cut away
Thanks man, I now know how not to to hang caliper so it kinks hose
👍🏼
But how do I get my cables out of the trunk
Pop the trunk or go through the back seats.
Make sure you pump them brakes after the job otherwise youll have no brakes for a couple or seconds 😂
Absolutely 💯
Do you have a video on cleaning the AC evaporator or other parts of the AC system? I changed my cabin air filter and it still smells musty.
Unfortunately no. Probably you should flush it out. I don’t have a video on that. AC is not my strong skill. 👍🏼😎
This man killed this video! Slow and steady and very detailed. This video gave me confidence to try doing the brakes myself. Thank you so much!
Ha! Appreciate that. And thanks for watching. Rewarding doing it yourself. Great job !!! 👍🏼💯😎
The ET is -10 .. passat is normally et45 to 48 … ur suspension system is getting cooked
👍🏼
Don't tear plug boot, they only come with a coil. Aftermarket boots are crap.
Gotta be careful and apply dielectric grease
Whaaaat you in Houston 😎
Yep. Hot Houston. Lol.
BTW checkout Billet Technology they make aircraft aluminum under hood parts for these cars
Thanks for this video it helped a ton, I just go my intake back I had it powered coated Transparent Copper 😎
I’ll bet it looks nice! Thanks for watching and hopefully you’ll enjoy the intake. 👍🏼💯
Old video I know but any clue if the nice sealed S&B air intake for the TDI will work for our TSI’s? I can’t find an ACTUAL cold air intake (aka has to be sealed) for the life of me.🙃 Someone said it has a barb on the tube and I’d have to figure out if I have the extra air intake line thing. I gotta get one of those nice 3” down pipe, and the upgraded cooler inlet pipe. Some of the forums said those are two really constricting parts for these.
Good question. I’m actually not sure about the TDI Intake will fit. You can get a high flow filter for the stock intake. It’s like $50. It’s a K&N filter. I wish I had more info. But I love this intake from CTS. And they make a nice downpipe also.
Just gave me hope on changing my spark plugs and coils myself and save a bunch of money but how do I know which coil is bad ?
You can do it. As far as the coil. Switch it with another. If you get a bad cylinder reading it should change to the one that’s got the bad coil. If the second coil is bad, switch it with the first one. That will verify it’s a bad coil. If nothing happens then it’s a cylinder issue or bad plug.
Got mine.. nice little pocket carry
Yes thanks 👍🏼💯
Nice use of the defroster lines to section it off. Also invisible glass cleaner is a great cleaner, far superior to windex in my opinion
Yes I agree. Invisible glass is good stuff. Thanks for watching 👍🏼💯😎
Is a 1.8 tsi 180hp good engine or not?
So far it’s great. Yes if you do regular maintenance it’s going to last a long time
@@grind-it-out ok thanks
👍🏼
