There’s a tiny percentage of wild and crazy e-bikers that make the rest of us look bad. Have seen pretty big electric bikes bullying their way through mixed use paths and trails as they ignore pedestrians, pets, and standard bikes. As a result lawmakers have to crack down on almost all e-cyclists. Also saw a youngster riding a modified electric bike doing 45 mph in a very quiet and conservative neighborhood . I asked him how fast he was going, and he told me-and also said he was headed back to his garage to figure out how to make the bike go even faster. People see the dangerous weaving all over the place behavior like that and want the laws changed to make roads and sidewalks safer. Such cycling actors ruin things for the rest of us. Can’t blame the lawmakers for trying to make us all safer.

Indont rhink this affects a class 3. Class 3 pretty sure only does 20mph in theottle mode, it does 28 on pedel assist. This rule alteration is mainly for the unclassified emotos like your bike, sur rons, talerias, stealth bombers etc Also reason why they added ni more than 750 watts per motor

Guys, stop complaining. In Singapore, we have speed limit plus weight limit. Speed limit of 25km/h and weight limit of 20kg. At least you guys have no weight limit, which means you still can have a very large battery to extend the range

Not sure where you ever got your information that it used to be a class three can have a throttle up to 20 mph but that is completely wrong. That is kind of like an urban myth among UA-camrs. Look in any actual state law that uses the class system and they tell you very plainly class three is pedal assist only. That word only is very important where the law is concerned. Primarily what California did is clarify this because if you look on Google for class three state laws, you find a tremendous amount of E bike manufacturers giving their loose interpretation. Might go back to them and ask them if you get in trouble if they’ll pay you’re fine. I know most bikers think this is no big deal and they can never enforce this anyway. But this is just the first step that a bunch of fools have gotten started in motion. The next step will be exactly what California’s pilot program is trying, and that is to demand that when sold the bikes cannot be modified. That means no settings to set, etc. BTW, these manufacturers know exactly what the law actually is, which is why they send these bikes out as class too, and then rely on so-called reviews to show you how easy it is to unlock. That’s part of the reason you get cheap components on them and customer service is nothing. They know their time is limited and they’re trying to grab a quick profit while they can. I actually am a huge advocate for E bikes.But I am an advocate for bicycles that have some assistance with them, if I wanted a motorcycle I would go buy one. I would suggest some of you do the same.

The laws look like they’ve simply put the 3 known ebike classes into law. No actually change. So if you’re riding (class2) 750w with a throttle and <20mph you’re fine. If you bought an illegal bike, you still have an illegal bike. No change.

For promoting electric vehicles, why does California demote electric bikes? Point being, those making these laws need to be booted to the curb.

I read the proposed law, it doesn't say you cannot have a throttle. It says you must pedal above 20 mph. So apparently a throttle is ok to 20, and from 20 to 28 mph you could have a pedal enabled throttle. It also says batteries must be tested and approved for ebike use (fire concerns). The Federal rule already called for these pedal/throttle rules so that's not really a change. The battery rule is probably new. Perhaps read the rules before posting videos?

Ride chill to avoid drawing attention. How many cops know e-bike regs or product specs, anyway? I happen to have a throttle with an off switch, which might just pass inspection. Regarding compliance, you can always buy a "Class 3" sticker or print your own. Worst case, that $25 ticket is still cheaper than gas and insurance, right?

Price on this bike and where to get it

Maybe they made those laws so when they do catch peoe they have the option to get more money out of you. The city or mayor should meet with top creators in the space and ask them for a solution. It's sad government goes straight to banning things.

1.Class 3 never included a throttle, at any speed. The idea that is does is a lie. CA is just reiterated what was already the case. 2. Cops will most def care during ticketing season when the town hall has a budget shortfall and tells the local PD to find as many ticketed offenses as possible to fill it. Also if the cops want to get you but can't find another cause then the incidental offense of an illegal motor vehicle is what they'll hook you for (driving a motor vehicle without a license, insurance or registration for example; three separate offenses). You are very naive to think cops exist to fight crime. They are there to collect revenue for the local government.

My E Bike was always illegal. It's goes up to 58 miles an hour. The ticket is only 25 dollars . But I don't ride my bike crazy like some people do. I think they should put a age limit in place.

Ive had throttle ebikes mainly 28mph to 30mph. I just ordered the motor goat v3 5mph ebike. Im also not worried about this law. I'll have peddles on it and I don't own a car so I will be riding alot. Plus help me to get to my 6am job as well. Im not one bit worried about this new law. I dont drive like an idiot and I follow the driving road laws. I wanna enjoy my rides peacefully.
