My channel is mostly devoted to my board game designs. I create micro versions of published games, including Gloomholdin' (Gloomhaven), Mage Lite (Mage Knight) and Mistsmall (Mistfall). These games are typically 18 cards or less, and are completely free to print and play. Some of them are even played without a table.
I also have my own designs, such as The Hand of Destiny, Roll Crawl, and Dragons of Etchinstone. Plus, a few surprises in the pipeline. So stay tuned.
I create and publish games under my LLC, Mythfield Games. Learn more and download free print and play content at my website, mythfieldgames.com.

Dragons of Etchinstone - How to Play
I accidently printed everything single sided and cut them. How can I determine laminate them the correct way so the front and backs are correct?
you act like the game is completely new to you and you just heard about it.
What do you use in terms of printing out the cards? The ones you show in the videos don't look like you just printed them on cardstock and cut them out - they look like regular cards you'd find in a board game.
I use Rachel Bruner's method from this video (but skip the step of running them through the laminator ) ua-cam.com/video/DgNJmAkO1_M/v-deo.htmlsi=vUz2C7td4yGZdgCD
Great game and great explaination. One Question: If i discard a card for boosting an action with a strength token ("X) - did i also get the discard money value of the card? e.g. for build action
Nope, you get just one or the other--discard money value or X token.
@@joeklipfel3076 Tank you!❤
Rome Alone. The name is what intrigues me. I have a soft spot for games from BGG contests.
WTF
This looks great! Will it be available in Europe?
Yes, the Game Crafter will ship to Europe but unfortunately I've heard it can be expensive. A lot of folks tend to wait until they have a few Game Crafter games they want to save on shipping
Looks great! I might have to snap this one up.
47:31 you had 28 damage which is 1 more than 27 for the middle edge, why would you receive 24 damage ? and not 15 ?
2 Rome games in the same year! Someone's thinking about Rome a lot. 😄
Thanks for sharing this nifty little game!
Nice! Any chance for PNP for this retail version? With all the bits like box art and whatnot? Game Crafter is about to raise prices and it will be even worse for us outside the US
Yep,! I'll make the PNP available through PNP Arcade.
@@joeklipfel3076 That's great news! I know you are a fan of Gutterfold formatting, but Duplex formatting would be greatly appreciated as well (with bleed please!) - Also the box template would be absolutely amazing. If you need any help with either, I'd be happy to do so (like I did with Jason's games on PNP Arcade)
a pun of home alone
this name is just perfect 😂
Gamecrafter...
Yep, not available yet but it will be on Game Crafter crowd sale this summer (and PoD after).
Looks good, Where to buy ?
awesome game but seriously a big flaw not to have a rulebook with the game. a few page mini leaflet could not have cost THAT much more. Even if its passed onto the customer. There are far too many minor details (like drawing 6 instead of 4 cards for dragon journey or not being able to upgrade previously downgraded cards
This is similar to Rome fate of an empire.
Yep, Best With 1 Games signed Microme and it became Fate of an Empire.
I like Fate of an empire and backed already. I am yet to fully understand it though.
I have not seen any reviews or rules of this game yet, and I’m only familiar with the big gloomhaven games, but just seeing these mechanics for set up, I’m amazed at the creativity and how it all fits in hand. Very cool!
For the red back cards, a means to distinguish between card types would be good.
Haven't fully understand the game. But I understand it enough now to back it.
Where can I download the list with the sequense turn 3:17? I didn't find it on the bgg game page
It's in the files section under the Mistfall: Heart of the Mists BGG entry
@@joeklipfel3076 thankyou
Could you have played Octavius card face down? About the 26min mark.
Yep, I totally could have!
@@joeklipfel3076 Neat. I'm really looking forward to this one. I saw it on your channel as a prototype a while back and was super excited to see a polish product coming out. I played Mage Knight for the first time in March at a convention, but it is so big I cannot see myself playing it in daily life. My my designer mind does definitely see the lovely design and I was drawn to your take on the double card mechanic.
Is this a game engine? what is it? i would love to test some games
Its Tabletop Simulator
Ordered a copy! Very reasonable shipping prices :)
Hi! Great game! What happens when you on your first action draw the last card of the deck (let's say at the end of round 1)? Do you still can perform your second action and then start round 2? Or do you just end your turn performing only one action and start round 2?
Glad you're liking it! You get to take your second action at the start of the next round. You don't lose it if the round resets after your first action.
@@joeklipfel3076can you explain the arrangement of actions In my view 1. Shuffling the bird offer and discard pile 2. Put the new dick faced down 3. Face up two card in the bird offer 4. Take my second action as i want (draw a card, draft a card or play a card) 5. Finally get the ai his new two cards or the opponent start his turn Am i right?
I'll back the pnp but I wish some easier difficulty settings would be made, that would sell much more copies. "Can be won by mortal" as USP.
Backed as soon as it opened. Having played the Playtest version can definitely recommend anyone watching this vid to chuck in a pledge as it is well worth it. Excited to get the final product :D
I would love to see a Kickstarter or something on your website where you can buy a bundle of your card games all together. I want to give some money for all the work you put in. Could you do a printing of this the dragon’s of etchinstone and its expansion and maybe one other thing and sell them all together to save on shipping and increase your profit? I would be happy to throw some money your way
I appreciate you wanting to support my games! Everything I self-publish (under Mythfield Games) is available print-on-demand on The Game Crafter. I believe you can save on shipping if you buy all at once. Behold: Rome will be added soon. www.thegamecrafter.com/designers/joe-klipfel
Interesting point of distinction for changing loyalties - why the bidding system for one scenario but not the other? for an 18-card game, would have thought that streamlining ruleset would be more important.. unless playtesting showed that it was unbalanced without bidding in one scenario but not other?
Yep, your last point was the case. In playtesting we found that switching loyalties was too powerful of a strategy and not penalizing enough. So we introduced at least the threat of the other player buying some of your cards out from under you in a change. Yeah normally you'd expect the shrunk version to be simpler but I don't think that's where this project ended up. It's definitely not like a gateway into Pamir...more like a travel version or "try before you buy" version :)
I can’t believe all of your miniature card games. I heard about gloomhaven and then stumbled upon your channel. So impressed. I haven’t tried playing any yet, but I am really intrigued.
Thank you for this great little game.
this feels harder to learn and teach than Mottainai
I like more palm island type games.
I really think these cards need to be redesigned. The numbers are eye killing tiny. There is still plenty of room on the card to increase the font size. I love the game but I'm not going to buy this as it looks unreadable
Interesting, this will be available at PNPARCADE too?
Yep, for sure.
Looks awesome. Built it and figuring out how to play. A bit confused where you say at 6:45 (with Roman Legions) that you can't store a played card and then at 9:00 (with Grain) that you can. Did you mean that you couldn't store Roman Legions because you planned to discard it? [EDIT: Hmm...looks like you automatically discard your played card so I'm still confused.] Maybe I missed something else? Anyway, seems like a lot of decision space jammed into 18 cards!
I believe he was able to store the material from Grain because the card itself triggered the storage. Whereas in the first case Roman Legions was played and triggered a storage effect on another card hence it had already been 'spent'. Not sure if that makes sense or if it's even correct but that's how I interpreted it 😅
I've been playing this game lately, and I'm loving it! It is all well thought through! The only thing I don't understand is the bot interest. It seems to be less interested in cards that I would think are better for him. For instance: On round two. If the bot has a porcupine and an ostrich. And in the display are a raccoon and an elephant. By my calculations his interest in the raccoon is -1 and for the elephant -3. So the bot is more interested in the raccoon. But I would think the elephant is a better card for him. Since it has more icons in common with his zoo, and also more conservation and appeal points. Am I not calculating it right?
Great video. Love the game so far.
Dude why didn't you enter the 2024 1-hand game contest at BGG?! Hands down this would win lol.
Not everyone is a Bgg fanboy
@@kosterix123 I feel like I said something triggering? Is there something wrong with BGG that I don't know about?
@@frankm6546 bgg is pretty bad. And uploading requires a bgg account to access them. Essentially you're handing over control over your work with nothing in return - bgg answers to no one.
looks impressive and reminds me of Ancient rome and palm island. If you are serious about the product, make a video highlighting 1. all the icons, - what the actions mean one by one - what civs there are 2. show initial setup, and 3. show a final game plus scoring. because in this video, I have no clue what you're doing. Also, GC is very expensive outside of US. I'd buy the pnp however if you sell it.
+1. Have to agree, Pnp and J. Klipfel is already a well known combo.
I didn't get the point that by discarding cards you can rush to end the game. I believe the condition to trigger rest phase is that the drawing deck is empty. So how can discard action speed up the game?
If you have no other actions you can do, it's a way to push the end game. If you draw more cards and have more than the max hand size of 3, you return any surplus to the bottom of the deck, effectively not moving the timer at all. But if you use a turn to dump your hand, you'll have room next turn to draw and keep cards
I see. This make sense! Thx! I missed that any surplus goes to the bottom of the deck.
great😊
Great video! Looking for it. When will be finally release?
My wife and I love 7 wonders duel so this looks fun for solo play.
Just wanted to say thanks for all your work. Because of you I can play “meaty” games quickly. Just found your games and pnp in general and it’s a fascinating hobby.
Please make an 18 card game for race for the galax ‘
Looks awesome, good luck with it! Can't wait to play it.
When you fuse a card, is the card placed behind the fuse, eligible for upgrade?
Yep!
Thanks for the quick response! I have the pnp version and just ordered a physical copy and the expansion! Very much so looking forward to both. Will likely get the pnp while I wait lol. Do you have any other games of yours you especially enjoy, would love to try out another but don’t know where to begin. I have birdscaping and adore that as well. Thank you so much for your wonderful work. I really hope you land a big game publication one of these days. I think you are a world class game designer!
@@joeklipfel3076also, when I am soaking up damage, can I block both attack and initiative damage with one card or must I use two? Also, if I am knocked out, but have discarded cards to go another way, I only downgrade what remains in hand, correct? Also can I discard my final card to go another way, in hopes of getting a journey rather than a battle? And can I go another way to discard the final card in the deck to end the round, if my only option otherwise was to take a bunch of damage?
