Foodscaping Utah (Foodscaping Utah)
Приєднався 20 жов 2017
GROW YOUR OWN Foodscape and organic garden in your front yard.
Learn how to replace traditional landscapes with foodscapes that maximize fruit and vegetable production in small spaces.
Our UA-cam channel so far has mostly featured how to foodscape videos, but the other major thing our nonprofit Foodscaping Utah does is hands-on learning workshops where people get together and help each other foodscape front yards. We work for a couple hours and then there’s a class at the end. Typically we have 15 or 20 people there and we’ve never limited numbers.
This year in light of COVID 19 we are going to try something different. We’re planning to put our foodscaping events on UA-cam live so that people can participate and learn how to foodscape from home.
Foodscaping Utah is a nonprofit volunteer group striving to help people grow some of their own food in well designed edible landscapes (foodscapes).

Grape arbor over greenhouse: build an arbor, prune a vine, shade greenhouse, harvest grapes
This video has footage over three years (2019, 2020, 2021) showing how we built an arbor over our greenhouse to produce grapes and shade our greenhouse in the summer. The beginning of the video focuses on the building materials we used and construction of the arbor. The rest of the video shows how we pruned and trained the vine over the arbor and so it would be healthy. Finally we harvest grapes!
At the very end of the video we show our larger four post arbor with two more mature (7 year old) vines covering it and loaded with grapes.
Here's a link to details on how we build the larger arbor and a paver patio under it:

Feeding soil: replenishing nutrients for healthy garden soil without fertilizer
Переглядів 2,8 тис.3 роки тому
There's abundant life all around us, we just have to go find it. This video shows how we make use of locally available, free organic material to feed and rejuvenate our soil, replenishing nutrients with coffee grounds, brown leaves and compost. The coffee grounds we get for free at local shops who give them away and the leaves we get from our neighbors. The leaves we then mulch with a battery p...

How to Plant Fruit Trees: Don't plant too deep
Переглядів 9 тис.3 роки тому
In this video we show how to plant fruit trees and make sure that aren't planted too deep. Trees that are planted too deep are less likely to be healthy because their roots struggle to get enough oxygen. Over 70% of trees are planted too deep (from Ellen A. Vincent of Clemson University - link below). To avoid this common mistake we show in detail how to find the root flare aka root collar and ...

This man is so impressive.
I'm pleased I viewed your instructional video. Last winter, as I began pruning, I confused cane pruning with cordon pruning.
This is a hard video to follow and listen to the first step over and over and over.
Thank you for this! Do you have a use for the stems?
We usually feed them to our chickens 😊
Nice job
Learned a lot from your video, not sure if I will watch more videos as I am not sure how much I will actually get into growing things but I subscribed just in case you put out more awesome videos.
Why did you stop making videos? I had the same idea to put an arbor over the greenhouse to shade it. Now need to figure out whats the best tasting grapes!
Fabulous video!!!!! Thanks so much.
Awesome channel with useful content, the website as well.
Time-lapse section is very useful. It’ll be interesting to see one over months to have an overview. I’m doing mine either a mango tree.
So all those branches you cut off. You could propagate those by putting them in sand moist sand. And start more grapes
So there are 2 types of pruning, which is a better option? Great video!
Thank you so much
Here in Canada Niagara area I tried yellow yarrow for two years, no luck with pollinators, went to a white one and there's lots of polinators on it.
Did you use dwarf or semi-dwarf variety?
Perhaps the best pruning video I have ever seen. And for us who need to keep trees small, this is invaluable information.
It’s okay, but I think it would have been better to remove The grass so it doesn’t look like your bed is spilling out onto the sidewalk.. the black curb in the curb side is also pretty ugly.🤔
Wooooow the best information I’ve found thus far. Thank youuu so much 🫶🫶🫶
Is it a problem if I grew 2 trunks off my vine.
The problem with this and other videos is they should but do not start out with defining “Bud” “Cane” “Shoot” “renewal spur” …this is last years’ growth right? Well tell us how we know…rather than ask us. Arrrg. “Too thick” Why? What do you mean? What is wrong with too thick? No it doesn’t make any sense..he asks at 4:10 “If that makes sense” NO! And meanwhile fast forward footage is useless. There is no starting point about what his goal is to start with. Keeps asking if that makes sense..no dude it doesn’t.
Greeting OurTube. As this video starts saying, for lots more detail please check out the full-length class we recorded Live on UA-cam. Much of the detail can be found there, but, of course, it is a longer video. In this case we decided to provide both a short 6 minute version for those who are looking for a short video and the much longer version for those who want more detail. Hope this helps.
Jack Tripper is a gardener!
Soooo awesome!! 😊
Awesome video! Do you have all of your raised bed on that one sprinkler head that you removed?
great explanations verbally and visually of the step by step which I haven't been able to find elsewhere. thank you.
Redwood?? I'm so jealous that y'all are able to get Redwood from the bigbox stores out west! Just a little east in Texas, NOPE! 😭
I understood spur pruning but this is the first video that actually explains cane pruning really well.
Do you have instructions on making your trellis at the end of the video the one that you have on the structure the end of the video
Thank you. I have a gnarly old Himrod that hasn't ever really been pruned. I have hacked away at it but I didn't know what I was doing. It was helpful to see a pruning on the variety that I have.
Good video. I actually always prefer planting with root flare even good inch higher than surrounding ground and can mound up dirt a little
Inspiring!
Also, a pruning lesson over on your arbor would be nice to see :)
At 12:45 you seem to be using the terms "cordon" and "canes", interchangeably. Im confusion
Can almond tree grow in maryland ? we have snow
Pollinizer 1:30
Yep 😊. A pollenizer is the tree/flower that provides the pollen. A pollinator is the insect, bird, etc that spreads the pollen.
@@foodscapingutah5239 Awesome! I tagged it for my friend!
Thank you
Thank you!!!
Very beautiful video n informative❤
We usually have a 100% coddling moth rate in our apples. Can you tell me the ideal time to place bags over apples to protect them from the worms. As soon as the blooms drop or is it better to wait until the apples start to form. We are using the similar organza mesh fruit protection bags you used which allow full sunlight through. But we want to time this perfectly so the blooms are pollinated and spent and not enough time for moths to have laid eggs. Can you provide some guidance to me on this. thanks
Yes an update would be great it looks fantastic
Would love to see an update!
Don’t think I could put as much faith into passerby’s
Thank you for this. The fruit trees at the nursery that are already espaliered are double the price of regular trees. My question: how did you set up the initial tiered wires? Maybe you already have a video of that - I’ll take a look since this is the first of your vids I’ve come across.
Good Job!🤓😎🤠
amazing!!!!
Nice.
Reliance grapes are spur pruned? I just got Reliance grapes.
I have a peach tree that has Four trunks growing away from each other a load of fruit might break them. I want to tie adjacent branches so they grow together to weave the four into a basket.
Well done! Thank you for the info. Where do you recommend buying apple whips from? What kind of apple did you choose?
How do you like the superduke?
