When is the best time to plant tomatoes to maximize harvest?
In this video we discuss how to time your tomato, pepper and eggplant plantings for the most successful harvest. The video shows footage from a couple of times last season and the results of a home trial experimenting with different planting times and different season extension techniques, including a low tunnel hoop house, and wall'o'water type water pyramids to warm the soil and for protection from spring cold.

Does it matter what type of tomato plant you plant?

Any variety of tomato should benefit from warmer soil and temperatures early in the season. That said, the variety of tomato definitely has a lot to do with when they start ripening. In other words some tomato varieties mature sooner than others, but all should benefit from season extension.
