It looks spot on! Amazing job!
@@jaysonhoover4328 thank you!
Sick build so far! So glad I found your channel. I live in TN as well. Keep up the great work. I’m in the process of building a couple mud tractors as well.
@@jaysonhoover4328 heck yeah man! I’d love to see those builds happen! Thank you for the compliment!
@ of course bud! You’re more than welcome!
Nice work! Besides the anchors to the rear, any thoughts on something forward as well? Just thinking with the angle of the grill it might be nice to secure it from both sides.
@@TractorDad maybe, not sure yet. The control arms are fixed very solidly to the frame. The shocks sit atop those. So any lateral movement is unlikely anyway. There’s not a whole lot of weight going on here, mainly the engine. My weight will be in the back. If anything, an impact to the grill (tree) would be the worst thing that could happen. But if it is braced well enough that shouldn’t be an issue. I’ve got a super lightweight ATV bumper made of aluminum I found a while back. It goes to an unknown quad. I’ve been saving it for something and I think it’s gonna be this. It’s really small and looks great when I hold it up in front. That should be enough to protect the grill from impacts. I could go insane staring at this tractor and thinking about every possible scenario and how to make it stronger. At the end of the day it’s just an old garden tractor that I’ll be racing a bunch of other old garden tractors with 😄
@ good point. As soon as you started talking about the oil cooler I started thinking in my head about if there was a good please to relocate it for more air flow. It’s easy to get carried away for sure. I can’t wait to see what you come up with for the steering
@ with the oil cooler, they have it there on the motor and behind it is a vent in the fan shroud and that’s how it cools. On the Deere I have the same engine. When I did the alternator I had to move the oil cooler. That’s how I realized air does in fact blow through it. I relocated it up in the grill area of the Deere. But there no air will blow through it unless I’m driving faster and even then it probably isn’t getting any forced air. So I ended up building a little shroud around it and now have two computer fans blowing through it. That’s not something I’m going to be wanting on this build for weight and complexity reasons. Before I knew the cooler had air being pushed through it where it is on the engine I figured it just sat there and diffused heat statically. I guess the engineers get paid the big $$$ for a reason 😄
Man i really need a garage !!!!!!! I really am excited to see this thing ripping
@@cloes_Grandpa that’s right! When we moved to TN one thing I absolutely had to have was a garage or shop separate from the house
@Tennesseemountainhomestead yeah "Cletus" is under about 6 to 8 inches of snow. And it's gonna snow most the day. Lol
@ all we got last night was rain.
That thing is cool on the lighting mud mower im extending the frame to make the engine fit 😂
@ConnorHellmuth that’s a good sign you picked the right motor 😄
Doing good. I have a couple of Kohler opps what slide carb did you use? You have a lot of great tools, that’s one of my weaknesses .Have you ever used an oxygen and acetylene set ? If you haven’t it’s quick and hotter I’m sure you know. It could very well be convenients and locations. But I’m not judging your setup I’m sure you could look at my shop and say how do you walk in this place 🤣.keep up the good work I’m learning and enjoying the show.
@@yellowgas66 Steffen bought a slide carb from Amazon it’s a 30mm slide. It’s either a PWK or knock off “Maikuni” brand but seems to be good quality. He’s just starting to mess with it and stuff so we’ll keep that updated. I’ve always wanted an oxygen acetylene set but haven’t dropped the $$$ on one. I bet I could find a good used one on marketplace though. I’d probably be doing grocery bag acetylene bombs though 😄. Mapp gas for now!

@@robertcobb8760 yes sir!
Love the intro! I gotta catch up on this build. Hope yall are doing well down there !
@@LaidOffGarage I preciate it! The boys and I was just watching your video last night with the battery switch on that Horse!
This build is so epic. I love it. The shock tower came out excellent. I know I am jumping ahead... possibly haven't thought about it, but are you going to integrate the front and rear brakes together or separate? I've seen the Kohler oppy in the background for a few videos. I figured it was going into the wheel horse. I'm pretty much full stop on my current build at this time as I have the bug pretty bad. I hope to get over it soon. Glad you got over yours it appears.
@@MightyRaze first, thank you for the compliment! With the brakes, I’m not sure yet if I can make the front and rear work together. The front are cable actuated. I haven’t chosen a rear brake yet. Most likely will be either a pit bike brake or something similar. I’m thinking the front brake pedal will be on the right foot, to the left of a gas pedal. The rear may be a handbrake lever on a post for my left hand next to the seat. The front brakes will probably be used a lot more than the back. I figure the engine braking through the trans will be more than enough to stop the tractor. The only purpose the rear brake really serves is when I want to hold the tractor from rolling while I apply throttle. Steffen got the Kohler oppy running good today. It needed a spark plug. But he also has a whole engine gasket kit and he has a slide carb on it. I bought a compression tester today and it has really good pressure on each cylinder. I hope you feel better and are able to get back on your build soon. It’ll be a while before I can get back into this one. Steering is next as I mentioned. That’s the last major thing that will pose any sort of challenge.
Loving this build, that's gonna be an awesome little tractor.

@@SlipperzYT 😅 thank you! I’m super excited about that but even more worried I can get it to perform and function right!
This thing is so cool, here in Finland these horizontal engine lawn tractors are so rare. I hope I can find one for cheap somewhere
@Jonssi069 Finland ! That’s cool ! One of my favorite UA-camrs is over there Hydraulic Press Channel! I didn’t realize horizontal drive machines were a mostly American thing. They are everywhere around my area it’s like take your pick. But you might consider simply converting a standard vertical tractor into a horizontal. Idk but I guess it’d be just as hard to get the transmissions and stuff. I was thinking just offset the motor and build your belt system down the inside if the frame like it would be. It’d be a lot of work but could be worth it 🤷🏼♂️ anyway bud I appreciate you! Thanks again!
This thing is going to be badass man! Each video you make on it the more im loving it! The suspension will help a lot with big rocks! Really looking forward to seeing how she preforms!
@@craftsmancrusher207 haha me too! Hopefully the arms are strong enough to handle some abuse! I think it’ll be fiiinnnneee😄….maybe! For real though there’s a lot going on here and some things to work out. Steering and shocks are next!
@Tennesseemountainhomestead i recently built a sears suburban with a 3 arm suspension if yoy run into any issues let me know and ill help you the best i can!
@ that’s ironic you mentioned that, I was going to do a triangulated four link before this. But once I got measuring and thinking about it, realized it was going to be way too heavy with the parts I would have used. I will have to go check out your build setup
@@Tennesseemountainhomestead I'll send you some pictures tomorrow!
@ yes please! I went back over your videos to see if there was one and didn’t see it. Is it the Midnight build?
The Big Un is 48 or so inches wide in the front, it can still fit on some decent trails, and i can take near 90 degree corners at ~28 mph without issues on pavement. It may be a bit too wide, but in a way its also a show tractor. Im also loving that suspension setup, really simple and will make a nice soft ride. Im excided to see it done!
@@Mo_2118 thank you! The main reason I was going around about width is because TTC rules. If I’m not mistaken 43” is max width. If not for that, I could’ve put the arms right near the edge of the frame and not had to relieve the frame so much or at all. But it’s cool how it is and I’m glad it’s wide(er)
@Tennesseemountainhomestead wider will be much better
How's the steering gonna mount? Is there anything in the way of it or are you gonna have to make custom steering rods?
@@M_Track I’m going with a “latest rage” or similar dune buggy rack & pinion. They are pretty compact. It will mount on the backside of the original axle pivot plate that used to be the front of the tractor. I’ll probably make my own tie rods out of 3/8” heim joints. 1/2” ones if I can. I’ll use a combination of steering DD shaft and splined UV joints to get the steering wheel input down to it- I hope 😅
Nice that the lower control arm frame connections were straight front to back. I have seen many where the frame tapers front to back. You are definitely taking that custom to a whole new level! Lovin the stance!
@@MightyRaze yessir! The control arms being straight was one thing I made sure of before I chose those parts. I’ve never built anything like this before, definitely learning as I go. But by the time it’s over, the words “custom” across the grill will have a whole new meaning 😄
@@Tennesseemountainhomestead - "But by the time it’s over, the words “custom” across the grill will have a whole new meaning" I love that.
That’s going to be really nice to ride! I think you got a chance for top tractor!
@@AbbyNormalGarage maybe, lol. A good machine is only part of it. There are some really fantastic guys who can ride a tractor like nobody’s business! Once I get it done, I gotta start getting some serious seat time to practice, and test it out! Find the weak spots…
@@Tennesseemountainhomestead is there a possibility of it being to small? It’s really cute!
@@AbbyNormalGarage not too small, it’s basically going to be the same dimensions as the John Deere as far as it has an identical wheelbase and even wider track width. At least in the front the back of the deer is pretty dang wide like 44 inches. It has the same transmission the same engine. It will have a very similar clutch system, but it should be about half the weight. So it’s everything I love about the deer With half the steel. I think it’ll run pretty good, it will be a lot zippier, less tippy because I’m gonna be sitting down a lot lower and now that it has for suspension and brakes it’s just gonna be a wicked little tractor
@ no, it is going to have the same wheelbase as the John Deere, it will have a wider front track width. It has the same transmission, engine, it will have a similar clutch system, better steering, front suspension, and front brakes at half the weight. It should be a nasty little tractor.

I started out on a Kawasaki KE 125 when I was 9 yrs old in 1978, thing was a monster compared to me, loved that bike, upgraded to a Honda XR a few years later, miss those days!
Why is the trailer powered? Very interesting.
@MAKESHIFTFARMs I built it because our trails are steep, when they get muddy it’s very sketchy, if not impossible, to get up there with a trailer. Especially if the trailer has anything in it. This was a prototype test rig to see if it worked, which it does quite well. It has brakes too, both gas and brake are controlled from the seat. I’ve got several videos showing the build and testing

@ that’s really cool, I’m glad you’re getting into it! I’ll be keeping an eye out for the build videos!
Looking forward to this. Hope you have a good mowersport career. It looks fun! I still like hydraulic steering. No feedback you can mount the ram anywhere. The orbital control valve just needs to be turned by the steering wheel. Hardest part is mounting the pump. I look forward to seeing the shaft set up to work a rack and pinion.
@@AbbyNormalGarage thank you! I was thinking about it (that’s pretty much all I think about right now) and I may not even need rack & pinion. I may re use parts from the stock steering system and just turn a fan gear into the new tie rods. The main goal of this tractor is keeping it light weight!
@ I doubt sloop in the steering would effect you bashing. Only thing about the stock set up is can it take the abuse and where do you get parts? Might adapt a wheel horse set up. They are a bit more common. I have 4 or 5 up stairs. I’d like to build one to bash around the house. I don’t really want to compete. I’m going to restore that lil wheel horse I got at the wheel horse show but I got 4 rider mowers and 1 on the way in the shop right now!
@ the stock fan and pinion gears on these are pretty stout. It’s all on 3/4” round bar. I don’t know if that’s what I’ll use but it’s not off the table. There is quite a bit of fab work and decisions to make on this thing
I'm lovin it. This tractor is going to be a contender definitely, no matter the competition! I'll definitely approve the entry post when I see it.
