    We have a few Sears, they are cool. A while back on my channel I did a Honda V twin, similar to a 670. It's 20hp, 620cc. You are dead on correct, I had to cut the hood and grill and battery tray. We had our fun and we are now working on going back closer to stock. I think I am going to do a centrifical clutch in place of the engine pully, a predator 301, and use the stock transmission for my younger son to drive. Kind of a combo go kart/ tractor. The trans will operate as original, but if he lets off the gas it will stop without worrying about the clutch pedal. My older son just got a 10xl that he is going to restore. And we made one into a Thomas the Tank Engine for parades and stuff. I'm going to keep an eye on your build here for sure.

    I agree with you that the suspension setup is the way to go, FOR SOME REASON All the other guys doing the mud mower stuff on youtube say suspension on mud mowers isnt any good. Doesnt make any sense to me. You should do a swingarm suspension on the rear aswell.

    • @Tennesseemountainhomestead
      @Tennesseemountainhomestead  20 днів тому

      @@jeremiahfiek5495 I’ve heard Redzz02 and Hot lap garage, among other guys say that. And I wholeheartedly believe what they say. They’ve got more experience on these mud mowers than I’ll probably ever have.
      However, I do want to do a 4 link on the front. It will not have a ton of articulation though. The movement of the axle will be limited by whatever shocks I run, which won’t be very big.
      I have a couple reasons for the front suspension. First, I noticed that when I rip on my trail with the John Deere, probably approaching over 20 mph it starts getting out of control over minor bumps. Like the front wheels will be off the ground, at the same time the rear tire hits a bump and the tractor comes down slightly off from going straight. Then it wants to jettison off in whatever direction it came down at. It’s not the biggest deal because it hasn’t caused me to crash, yet. But I think if there was at least some suspension it would be more controllable. The other reason is I want the axle to be further forward to lengthen the wheelbase. Hopefully that will help me to not have to cut and lengthen the frame. As for the rear, if I was to put a solid axle and sprocket under it the tractor would not qualify for TTC next time. It needs to retain a tractor transmission. If I put the transmission on a swing arm, with a jack shaft, the shift selector would be going up and down with it. Plus it would most likely cause it to come out of gear.

    • @jeremiahfiek5495
      @jeremiahfiek5495 20 днів тому

      @Tennesseemountainhomestead i had an idea for mine which has a 633a to hard mount the trans up in the middle and run pulleys from the outputs down to a straight axle... if i can pull that off it'll eliminate shock to the transaxle, can do the taller gearing AFTER the transaxle making shifting easier, also wont be spinning the guts too fast, and the shifter wont bounce. Still the original trans... just moved up to the top of the swingarm. Just another hairbrained idea. Lol

    • @Tennesseemountainhomestead
      @Tennesseemountainhomestead  20 днів тому

      @@jeremiahfiek5495 that’s actually a pretty interesting and cool idea. The only thing I can think negative about it is weight and complexity. If you’re looking to run it at TTC or whatever both of those things definitely come into play.

  • @RichieRichOverdrive
    @RichieRichOverdrive Місяць тому

    Wow 370lbs! I wonder if mine’s still near that, i haven’t added a whole bunch to it really. Thats only 40lbs heavier than my lawn ranger though!
    To run the JD axles you might try flipping one hub inside out to even it out some.
    The 2300 in that tractor actually uses 5 bolts to mount, two axle ones, one on top is the rear seat spring bolt, and then the other two are the brake mount bolts.
    Speaking of the brake, it seems like those little bands have an asbestos lining or something, they almost work too good, mine is like an on off switch lol. Braking in reverse leaves something to be desired though, so a disc brake setup is definitely a good idea.

    • @Tennesseemountainhomestead
      @Tennesseemountainhomestead  Місяць тому

      @@RichieRichOverdrive sweet I hadn’t unscrewed the first bolt from this thing yet. I thought maybe one of those seat bolts caught the housing too, just couldn’t see it. I’m excited to get this build moving. I wanna sit down low as possible in between the tires. Hopefully I can keep it light, which I don’t see an issue with. I think removing all the steel that makes up the existing steering, clutch and front axle is heavier than what I put back in.

    • @RichieRichOverdrive
      @RichieRichOverdrive Місяць тому

      would be super awesome to see the whole front end of the frame rebuilt out of some lightweight but properly reinforced stuff! There is definitely a bunch of steel in there, it makes bolting the engine down a real pain on mine.

      @ once I get into it I know I’ll come up with something. I been working on mechanical stuff a long time. In my world and ways, I’ve learned it’s good to think about a plan before staring a project. But it’s easy to think about it too much and get overwhelmed before ever starting. Taking the first steps is the only way and then everything else usually falls into place. Of course mistakes will be made but I heard someone say once that “if you ain’t making mistakes, you ain’t working”. Plus another thing I have learned is a good mechanic will do it right the first time, but an equally powerful tool is the ability to un-f**k a mistake like nothing ever happened 😄. It’s gonna be interesting I’ve never built a 4 link before.

    I suggest getting a Predator 420 13hp hemi engine. I've got one on my Case 222 it's a 13.5 hp. Pretty good and solid engine. I've used mine real hard and it's been nothing but flawless.

    • @Tennesseemountainhomestead
      @Tennesseemountainhomestead  Місяць тому

      @@iowafox2206 I agree the 420 is a great engine! We put one in Steffens 212 a few months back. However, ain’t nothing that sounds quite as good two cylinders! I need this tractor to rip and shred, pull hard up hills and through mud. Plus the V configuration takes up less space under the hood. The single cylinder Predator engines, the cylinder goes off all forward at a more horizontal angle and would probably not fit under this hood. Well, maybe but I’m talking myself out of a single cylinder 😄
