Oil Painting Tips
Follow along in this oil painting video to see how I create my urban paintings.
I explain the grid system I use and other useful info to create a path of success for your own work. The medium I used in this painting consisted of a stand oil and Gamsol mixture. I used synthetic brushes in this painting and Windsor and Newton oil paints.

Lakeside Plein Air - Painting Shadows
Переглядів 1,3 тис.2 роки тому
Come join me for a plein air oil painting adventure. You'll see in this landscape oil painting video how I handle shadows and dappled sunlight. The oil painting was painted at a local park near my house called Kineowatha Park. One interesting idea I experimented with was NOT using ultramarine blue. I only used cobalt blue and a bit of cerulean blue for this landscape. What a day it was for pain...

What a challenge I had in this video. I thought I was going to have a relaxing painting day by the lake, but the wind kicked up something fierce. It was still a good experience though. Not all plein days are perfect. What helped in this oil painting was my method of using a single color to block in the painting quick. This helped establish the foundation of the drawing and some average values e...

Are Artists Weird?

Sometimes I think I'm weird as an artist. My painting habits don't seem normal. What do I think is so weird? I have a habit of starting a lot of oil paintings, but it takes forever, it seems, to finish them. Do you have a painting habit that you think is odd? Leave them in the comments. Bruce, I've just discovered you and love your painting and all the information you impart. As a video producer for 35 years and a beginner painter, I have some feedback that applies to most artists' videos on UA-cam. I would love to regularly slow down the process and hear your thoughts with every decision you make when, for example, picking a color on your palette and placing it on the painting, how you decide on a slight variation of white on a door or blue on a shadow. Too often artists talk about other very interesting insights about painting while we are watching you paint which distracts from understanding the process. We don't know what decisions you are making while painting which would help us know what we should be condisring while we paint. Voice over is more powerful if it is describing exactly what we are seeing. An example, if you talk about telephone poles, show examples of telephone poles, not while we are watching you choose what colors to paint a door or window. that said, I look forward to watching many more of your videos! Thanks!

Artistic representations of cemeteries can be quite intriguing. They often capture a blend of beauty and solemnity, showcasing elaborate gravestones, serene landscapes, and the emotions associated with remembering loved ones. Each painting can evoke a sense of reflection on life, mortality, and the tranquility that these spaces can offer.
