Thanks, Bruce, lots of good info in here. Cast shadows of trees on a wall are something that I find particularly difficult. Really gives a feeling of the light when it's done well, but it just looks like a mess when I do it.

I would love to see a complete start-to-finish painting video.

Do you mean a literal 3 hr painting? I've thought of it, but thought it would be boring for viewers.

@@habowskistudio2724 Whatever you had in mind when you mentioned it in this video (I know it was from more than a year ago 🙂). Suggest you think about breaking it up into maybe 3 or 4 parts?.

Same! I’m a “super beginner “😂😂 so I could really use some start to finish guidance. I only work with acrylics right now and mostly cartoon style stuff. (Not to much realism).

I love your teaching style. I studied art years ago in college but when it came to painting classes we were left to do our own thing with very little instruction in techniques. It's fun to learn from others now and then.

This was amazing. Seeing you go from plein air study to near completion. Seeing you paint the shadows on the house and on the grass, and bonus brush cleaning. So enjoyable and useful, end to end. Thank you so very much.

I have found, in my relatively limited painting experience, that after initially staying true to the subject of the painting, my detailing and highlighting revisits to it are more in the interest of the painting and, as you mentioned, bringing to attention what first drew me to do the painting.

I'd like to see more contrast, if you squint and look at the painting it looks so much better as the contrast increases. Do this and have a look at the large roof area and large shadow area on the grass and you'll see what I mean. Saturation in sky increases too. But all this depends on the 'look' you are trying to achieve. Just my thoughts etc. 👍

Looks great! I thought it looked great to start w also! I have a question. I’m new to all of this. Are you saying “plain air” when you describe this type of painting?

Really enjoyed the content on this rework! My question is, when you rework an oil painting, do you 'oil out' the dried painting before applying the new paint or do you apply the new paint directly over the dried paint?

Hi Deb - Sorry for the late reply...been under the weather. I've only used oiling out a few times. Mostly I'm applying the new paint over the the dried paint. I haven't had any big issues with tone confusion. When I use to use more earth colors, I would have more matte paint effects that could be an issue.
