Keep doing what you're doing mate I prefer the maintenance videos. Wish you were making videos when I first bought mine 220. Sold now but still watching
@@blkedge220 haha nice one top man. Hope you're getting on OK with the mk4. Glad you enjoy the channel and thanks for the comment 👍
@@mondeost220restorations9 the mk4 is good but 220 is just a bit better
Good car .
Great channel, You deserve so many more views, the detailed maintence videos are fantastic, dont loose heart it has to take off at some point too good a channel not too. your car is stunning by the way. keep up the great work.
Thanks alot, much appreciated. It's comments like yours that reassures me to keep going. Glad you enjoy the channel and content. Thanks again means alot 👍
Excellent... Did you make ur own mud guards or are they available online?
Thanks. Got the mud flaps off ebay a few years ago to protect the side skirts from road rash at the back of the front wheel arch.
I must be lucky with my st220 estate in magnum grey with sunroof and infra red interior. Owned it for years. Its currently in long term storage. Its such a great car and i love it to bits. Ive always had a love hate relationship with it though, love the car but its horrific on fuel consumption. Best ive had was 36mpg on a steady run to france. Great video and thanks for sharing.
Subscribed, interested to look at some of other videos and what is to come. I had one of these from new for a couple of years and I loved it, so much so that i have just bought one a couple of days ago. Planning on restoring it a bit to make it top notch.
Good video as always mate 👍 very thorough and informative. I have mine to do asap but its still off the road currently. I was going to ask a couple of questions.. 1 - what do you think of the Ford Performance oil filters if you have used them or even looked into them? 2 - Are you using Halfords Advanced sockets and extension bars etc? The reason i ask about the latter is simply your opinion of them? I have 2 different large sets plus other brands of socket sets but i find the sockets on the Halfords sets just don't sit on the extension bars etc very well and go a bit wobbly ( i noticed in your video yours did too ) hence the question. They get frustrating at times and some never feel on the bar properly etc actually feel quite loose ... Anyway mate nice one again 👍
Thanks mate. I've never used the halfords kit but heard good things. I was thinking of doing a tools, equipment and possibly a bit of a tutorial on the common troublesome nuts, bolts etc on the ST220 but thinking it would be boring. Th only videos on my channel that are popular to most is the one's were I'm out in the car ragging it. Thanks again mate 👍
@@mondeost220restorations9 well mate as for the Halfords Advanced i would certainly stick to the 6 point sockets ie modular sets. I have a 200 piece Advanced and a 120 piece advanced and most of the sockets are 16 point which don't fit many bolts as snug as my other branded 6 point sockets. That's my experience and luckily i bought them 2nd hand hardly used. Its great they have a lifetime warranty but also with both sets the extension bars and sockets by the most don't feel like they're on properly....again just my experience with owning 2 sets. I have their ratchet spanners and angled ones plus a few other modular sets which are all great. As for the content mate its absolutely fine and very helpful even if people don't comment so! Obviously there are those that just want to hear the car and see how it performs. If I could say anything it would be more about promoting yourself, your tests and experiments and obviously your channel. I know there are lots in the groups we're both in that know nothing about it. Content is fine mate and professional!! 👍🏻
Sorry yeah I've not even considered the performance oil filter as I'm trying to remove the cooked on oil from the engine so with that in mind I want decent filtration of the oil for the time being at least so I really couldn't comment on the performance filters. You might want to message Neil Woodcock on ST220 enthusiasts group on Facebook as I think he uses them. Thanks for the comment 👍
@@mondeost220restorations9 hi mate ..yes I'm friends on FB with Neil and yourself 😆 I know he uses 3 oil catch cans but as for filters I'm not sure. I think for now I will stick to the genuine Ford one but in saying that I need to do more research. My car is on 66K so I'm trying to do what i can to minimise wear etc
I had st220 almost 10 years ago, great car when in good condition! Keep it up! Do You have dyno graph before and after remap?
@@oluskloc no graph, I'm not worried about figures tbh, it's an old car and I don't want to stress the engine too much. Thanks, glad you liked the video 👍
Would you be interested in adding another to your collection ive a black 07 for £750
Were is the car. Is it advertised?
@@mondeost220restorations9 Barnsley mate it’s on gumtree black
Beautiful motor you got there .On my 3rd ST220 3 LITRE .Have A silver hatch back 54 plate in vg condition still only 91500 on the clock. NO adviseries on the last MOT. A great car ,used to have the Sierra 2.9 injection for 6 years another great Ford motor. Power when you need it . Black Recaros in my ST, tho the first one i had was a black hatch back with Red Recaro seats, all round ,great and reliable motors. I love em .
Thanks, yes it's not in bad nick for the age and milage and yeh I've always been into ford's as well, so the 220 was a obvious choice as they're still reasonably priced and good ones could well go up in value 👍
Good video
Excellent video I’ll be doing mine you inspire confidence cheers mate
What grade of oil do you use and make as I use 5/30 grade make Valvoline
@@st220saloonrestorations 5w30 A5 Ford spec. I buy Castrol 20ltrs as I'm doing alot of oil changes and find the Castrol is decent and reasonably priced. I meant to ask you about the air intake duct you mentioned on your last video, I'd love to get my hands on one
@@mondeost220restorations9 since then I did some investigating about that air intake and find the six speed cars don’t have it fitted for some reason
Great work mate
@@medievilassassin thanks mate. Love driving this thing.
Are the shocks still available? The springs are discontinued :(
If you're looking for genuine ford springs and shocks I think you'll struggle for all 4 corners, I did going back in 2021. Aftermarket might be more available but always use part numbers and ensure that they match exactly and you are able to return as alot of suppliers will sell you components for a st tdci or even a standard model
Fantastic collection of cars, where and when was this please?
Simply Ford at Beaulieu near Southampton. This event is held every year and I highly recommend if you like your older performance Ford's and anything else Ford 👍
Last 5 or six times I have attended car meets, there have always been the horrendous pop and bang brigade. Absolutely pathetic. Watching people superheat their engines.. Dear lord. Sorry, but I'm done. Car meets are nothing like they used to be. Very sad, but true.
I know what you mean after watching 1 sond off for 5 mins I was done but the rest of the day was great 👍
Looks like you had a fabulous day!
The best! If you're into Ford's 👍
is it a rilliable car? im looking to buy one of these but dont know what to expect with the problems
@@Bloempot12 join the ST220 Enthusiasts group on Facebook. They have lots of information on these so you can do your research before you buy
Hi does the s220 rocker covers have gaskets for spark plug holes? Changed my spark plugs and the top right (if your stood facing the rngine)cylinder was very oily
Just seen the video lol. It does
Do you have a part number
Yes they do
@@mondeost220restorations9 got a place to buy them from?
Great work mate it’s super clean
Thank you! Cheers! Kinda feel like I'm getting somewhere with it now 👍
Looking food there Simon love the factory fresh silver /blue looks real sharp that m8 really does keep up the awesome work/content
Cheers Dunk not quite up to your standard tho mate 👍
Hi Gents, could do with some advice, camshafts and bearing caps for a 220, anyone know how to get hold of some? Any help much appreciated
@@captainbiggles6636 Sam Adams on the ST220 Enthusiasts group on Facebook
Just got off the floor buddy 😂 don't do that bs 😆 the love and amount of work and money you'd put into it i was like 🤯 Sounds and looks spot on 🍻🍺
Can I have your spare block? Mine is smoking and using oil. Any advice
Sorry bud I'm keeping it 💯 👍
Nothing wrong with redlining these cars if maintained and oil is full. These engines are tanks, and that remap is nothing for them, only makes them run and breathe better.
Yeah I've recently had the big end shells replaced about 1500 miles ago so taking it steady for now
Sounds well mate that , yep I do exactly the same with the heaters , always have mate think it’s second nature sound and looks like it’s got max torque around 3,200-4,800 sounds a strong unit that m8 this is what theese cars are all about looks and sounds spot on , with no effort at all great vid m8 keep it up
Cheers Dunk and thanks again for the sensors, work a treat 👍
Do you know anyone or any restoration company that specialises in restoring ST220s - especially suspension rebuilds to the standard shown in this video? I don't have the facilities, time or expertise to do this myself.
Unfortunately I don't. All I can suggest is to do a online search but be prepared for an expensive quote
Sounds like prudent work, you're being a great custodian for a great motor💜✌️😊 Lovely work on the rear subframe etc, immaculate 👍😊 Two beautiful cars at that - they are great value. I'd prefer one over a BMW. I wish I still had the health to do the spanner work - I'd love a ST220, always wanted one, wish I hadn't dithered in years past (couldn't have afforded a new one). Seems to only just fit in your garage🤔😲🤭👍💜
Yeh it's a tight fit but just doable, lol. I'd rather struggle a bit than send it into a garage, get charged handsomely for sometimes a crap job. Besides I do enjoy working on it and getting things as good as I can. Thanks for the comment and hope you enjoy the channel. Any recommendations with regards to improvements please feel free to say 👍
@@mondeost220restorations9 I hear you and I agree. Hopefully I've found a garage that I trust now (my trusted guy retired over 12 years ago now and we worked on several cars together). I've enjoyed the channel thus far, so no worries on that front, keep on keeping on👍😊✌️
just wanted to ask with the crankshaft shells what causes them to spin is it lack of oil pressure of is it inevitable?
Yes lack of oil pressure, but there can be several reasons for low oil pressure like low oil level due to leaks which is what is common with the ST220
@@mondeost220restorations9 ow okay makes sense not to worry if you get the oil leaks sorted
Whats that spray ur using
Bilt hamber dynax s50 cavity wax 👌👍
I keep reading about turning the piece inside the door for the handle, turn it which way and how? It's never explained.
Remove the plastic pin then turn/spin the main part of the plastic fitting on the threaded rod either up or down can't remember but it's fairly logical 👍
After 10yrs ownership and 70k miles ( 160k total) my 2005 estate has just been written off after a heavy rear end shunt from a Land Rover. A sad ending to a very happy ownership experience. Self serviced every 10k, it has been extremely reliable. Apart from new plugs and leads, the engine has never been touched and it still revved out cleanly and powerfully to its red line. What else went wrong? Hardly anything, I had a front spring break at 150k and an intermittent 'evaporative emissions' warning that would come and go; I never could trace that one so I suspect it wss a dodgy electrical connection somewhere. Oil leaks? Yes the occassional drip from somewhere mid height on the engine. The only other issue I had was that the oil cooler feed is a thin pressed metal housing that sits between the engine block and the oil filter. The oil filter tightens down onto the metal housing and I found that the Mann filters I was using have a rubber seal which is slightly smaller diameter than the Ford filter. The thin oil cooler housing didn't like that and bent when the filter was tightened leading to a significant oil leak when the engine was started. Geting the oil cooler housing back into shape was a real hassle, and of course I always used genuine OEM filters after that. I have driven faster cars, I have driven more luxurious cars, I have driven sportier cars but I have never driven a car with such a great combination of practicality, comfort, reliability but which remains so engaging to drive and fun to rev out and listen to that wonderful sounding V6. RIP ST220, you will be missed!
I hear so many people say these things about the st220 and hear many regrets about no longer owning one! I think you need to get another one 👍

Thanks, plenty more to do, front end next 👍
Hello can you tell me how thick the underlay was you used. Many thanks
Xtrafloor, about 1mm thick. It's a floor underlay used with composite flooring tiles, waterproof and with sound deadening qualities. Cheaper stuff is available but not sure how easy it will tear or how well it would keep the water out. The stuff I used is quite dense.
Cheers for answering a lot don’t 👍
Thanks mate for the solution on what to use for the leaking doors all four leak on mine still love the car though.
Great work, well done Simon
Thanks Ian, hope the work on yours goes well👍
Attention to detail is second to none. Fair play. Seeing your rear wheel arch gap has also given me peace of mind after just fitting new/standard coil springs while I had the subframe off. Looks about the same ride height. 👍 I'm having that tip on securing the rear bumper. Going to tell my Missus I thought of it myself 😁 Got mine back rolling now, but didn't consider the rear crash bar. Having now seen yours and Chazz's, it's got to be done...
Thank you, and thanks for the comments. If there's anything I could do better please do let me know ok 👍
lovely job done right!
Fantastic!
Glad you like it!

Thanks mate. How's that rear sub frame rebuild going?
Waiting on a couple of bolts should be installing summer time, thanks again for the subframe.

Coming along nice. That underside is now immaculate 👍
Thanks mate. It's not bad if I say so myself. The rear end work is done for now and back on the ground waiting for 4 wheel alignment so rear end rebuild video will be up soon 👍
@@mondeost220restorations9 Look forward to seeing the vid. I've fitted my subframe back on last weekend and out of curiosity, I didn't pin it at first, just pinched the bolts up I then inserted the pins I turned, following the measurements you gave me and they would not go in. Slackened the four bolts back off, then fully inserted them home easily, before tightening the bolts back up. Suprised me how far out it can be without using the pins. Might get some time back on it this weekend, fingers crossed...
Great vid, how many litres of fluid did you use
I think I used about 1.5 ltrs but I wanted to give it a good flush out. I think the power steering system capacity is about 1ltr
Hey, great videos! Do you do all the work by yourself? If you would buy a 200k mile ST220, what would be the first things that you would tackle ? Thanks and keep up with the good work! Cheers.
Thanks. I would first have a good look underneath at the rear in particular for corrosion and then check the engines big end bearings for wear.
@@mondeost220restorations9Thanks! By the way, what about the chains and chain tensors, is it true that they last for many miles?
@@flavioc5389 yes, as long as there are no rattles coming from that area they should be fine
Great work mate
