  • I have been testing the #tamron #1770 f 2.8 for #fujifilm and after two months of extensive use, I have decide to replace my #fuji #1655 f2.8 with the Tamron lens. In this video, I explain why i decided to make the switch and which features of the fujifilm 16-55mm f2.8 or lack of features influenced my decision. I also share samples of the fujifilm 16-55 mm f2.8 as well as images shot with the Tamron 17-70mm f2.8. If you are wondering whether the Tamron 17-70mm f2.8 is for you, this video will help you make that decision.

    I was torn between these 2 lenses but was leaning towards the Tamron for the stabilization. I currently use a 23mm f1.4 and 56 f 1.2 on a XT3 and XT4 but it is limiting for video. Thanks for the review. As always your videos are top notch!

      Thank you so much, I truly appreciate it!🙏🏾 I think we have a similar challenge because I always have to balance the optical quality of the lens and deciding whether to purchase or not because of my XT3. The stabilisation is a really big factor.

    Always nice to see you. First, congratulations on the marriage, second, the photos that you shared are beautiful, clean, sharp and excellent lighting. I guess third would be to talk about the lens. I believe that there is a difference when choosing a lens (or equipment in general) between someone like you (a professional) and someone like me (an amateur), all the reasons that you gave for switching make a lot of sense and are based on logic, for me the absence of an aperture ring is a deal breaker. When I “went” digital I chose Fujifilm simply for the form factor, not because it was a better system (now a days no one makes a bad camera), I enjoy the analog dials, I can look at the camera and see all my settings without having to turn in on, just like when I shot film. For a similar focal range I am using the XF16-80 and getting excellent results for my use case (which is to shoot for fun). Be well, stay safe and let’s hope that we win the trophy in tomorrow’s game against France. Yes, I had to throw that in there😂

      Well said! And that’s something I didn’t stress about at the beginning, I just wanted a camera that met my needs but after time, size, ergonomics and functionality started ranking higher on my list of priorities. Even that is just being picky because like you said, it’s hard to find a bad camera especially in the last decade, it just boils down to needs and shooting style. I’m definitely supporting Argentina! 🤣🎉🥳 Good luck for tonight, it should be a big game!

    I’ll be keeping my 16 to 55 2.8 Fuji zoom lens. But my use case is different than a lot of peoples. I basically use this lens when I’m hiking. Is it all in one lens and only bring the 90 F2 as my telephoto.
    I like to keep my weight down and so I only bring these two lenses and it seems to cover everything I need.
    Now if I’m doing street photography, it’s a whole different ball game. I bring out my primes only, though 18 1.4, 33, 1.4 and the 90 F2.
    I find the 16-55, 2.8 to be very very sharp, as sharp as a prime lens at least with 26 megapixels on my XT4. But I have in body stabilization, which you don’t have with your XT3. So one has to take into account the different variables. 🖖

      🥹I envy you, you have some really awesome options. For me, the lack of IBIS weighs heavily on how I pack and setup my camera bag. I’m looking to try the 90mm f2 next year and add with the 90mm f2 or the 33mm f1.4

      The 90 F2 is a must have lens. Although on the XT4 at times I have to use the focus limiter so it won’t hunt so much. but that’s only when I’m doing street photography.
      At first, I didn’t think I would like the 33 1.4, but now it’s almost always on my lens when doing Street. 🖖

    I currently own and use the sigma f1.4 trio in a professional setting. They are perfectly capable for professional work. I am looking in to standard f2.8 zoom lens and am deciding between the Tamron 17 to 70 and the sigma 18 to 50. I think for wedding photography and videos the Tamron maybe the better option do to the longer focal length and the stabilization. I shoot with the XT2

      Oh definitely and Sigma glass has always been beautiful. I’ve only used Sigma lenses with a canon setup but was never disappointed. For standard zoom, the 17-70mm from Tamron was an obvious winner for me, especially because I use the XT3 for events.

    Congratulations! Everything looks beautiful and you still come back so soon and drop a video! Love the dedication. 🎉
    Edit: I’m new to the Fuji system. XT3. About 4 months now. I have the 18-55 kit and two manual lenses. 25 and a 35. I’m getting into video and thinking of getting the 17-70 for the 2.8 and ibis. I want to run this xT3 into the ground until I upgrade so ibis is important. I do weddings so I’d love an all around lens. Switching out lenses isn’t the most fun to me either. Plus one lens once price. Getting into video as well I’d love having 2.8 all the way through. I love how you talked about it working for you instead of listening to what a UA-camr says. Test things out, and if it works for your work, then it’s a keeper.

      Exactly! The aim is to find gear that fits into our workflow and enables us to get the best images or footage with the least amount of stress. The XT3 paired with the Tamron 17-70mm f2.8 is a great combo and that constant aperture allows you to use less lenses. I’m really happy with the Tamron lens. I’d love to see the images you’re getting with your setup.

      I had real problems with the 18-55mm on the X-T30. Just seemed unreliable and fuzzy too often. I know that changing the OIS settings to 'shooting only' from 'continuous' potentially helps, so if you have the lens I wanted you to know that.

    • @LightSkinJedi1920
      @LightSkinJedi1920 Рік тому

      @@mikefoster6018 I’ve been using it for video but I try to manual focus most of the time. Or lock focus. But that did help some!! I think I might get the 16-55 for my photo jobs and the 18-55 for my videos even though I heard good things about the video with this. Just no IBIS. A xt4 might be the next move.

    Hi! I own both the 16-80f4 and the 18-55 2,8-4, and my personal problem is that I don't love the look of mid-range zooms in fuji eco-system. For me, with Fuji, it's all about primes. I have tested the 17-70, and for me it is... meh. Just not better that my 16-80. In full frame, a fast mid-zoom is just perfect for almost everything, and you just don't need more lenses, but with crop sensors the story is totally different. So for me, none of them, I'll probably invest in a sigma art 24-70 for my sony a7rii, or instead I'll buy the 23f1,4 and the 50f2, or something like that.

    • @lostcreators
      @lostcreators  Рік тому +1

      Hey Fausto, yeah the midrange zooms provide sufficient image quality but nothing really special. I actually found the 50-140mm f2.8 better. For me, I shoot events mostly so the mid range zoom such as the Tamron 17-70 or the 50-140mm f2.8 allow me to capture changing situations without needing to change lenses frequently.

    • @faustoart
      @faustoart Рік тому +2

      @@lostcreators hi! of course, a zoom is a must in the kit, and as you say, the 50-140 must be far more interesting in the fuji ecosystem, I have not tested it yet, I really want to give it a try! But when you try the 33 f1.4, for example.... there is not turn back 😀

    Is this lens good for manual focusing for video? Does it focus hunt while zooming in/out?
    I saw reviews and during auto-focus the focus hunting was bad.

    • @lostcreators
      @lostcreators  7 місяців тому

      I agree, this lens is pretty much perfect in so many ways but one of the few downsides is the focus ring, the focus pull is short but also hard to comprehend. Even with focus assist, I find that I have difficulty tracking slow moving subjects manually when recording videos. If recording video manually is a massive selling point for you, I would rather opt for the 16-55 f2.8 or the 16-80 f4. This lens is optically brilliant, great OIS, feels nice on the camera and has good AF even on the XH1…but the focus ring is a bit of a let down.

    I recently bought the Tamron 17-70 mm for my 2 Fuji bodies (xt3-xh1), but I find that batteries are draining very fast. Have you noticed that?

    • @lostcreators
      @lostcreators  11 місяців тому

      I have the same issue but I think it’s just because the batteries don’t have much capacity. The other things that drain the battery quicker is IBIS or using OIS lenses or both and always shooting with boost mode on. But when you still mainly stills, the batteries tend to last a little longer

    • @yeicko
      @yeicko 11 місяців тому

      @@lostcreators I think that the battery drainage is much worse than with the Fujifilm 18-55 mm OIS. At least more noticeable.

      I only tried it out once with the XT5, as soon as I get my hands on the XT5, I’ll do a video on it. But my initial impression is yes, the AF was fast and reactive and the image quality was not compromised at all.
