    Wow, thank you! It helped! (And by that, you solved a really big issue 🙏🙏🙏) There is only one little doubt left. As far as I understand, you deploy the batteries after having deployed the external charger and with the camera still switched on (because if it was the other way round, it would end up recognizing the camera batteries again but not the ones of the external charger). And here is my question: is there any risk for the camera if I deploy its "normal" batteries while it is switched on? Thank you a lot for your useful advice!

    • @uoutdoors
      @uoutdoors 4 місяці тому

      Glad I could help👍🏻 There’s no risk of damaging the camera by putting the batteries in the camera itself while it’s on and connected to the external power. This is because the camera is using the external power so the new batteries won’t have any effect on power when you put them in the camera while it’s on.

      I made the posts and shelving myself. The tree stumps were stripped cedar logs I picked up from a local woodworker, then I sanded them, stained, and sealed them. I will say that they might be a little too smooth/slick with the sanding and sealing, the cameras can’t grip the posts very well so it’s a pain to setup but they do look nice👍🏻

    Next year the rye or winter wheat will be choked out by the clover. Same with oats. Good idea though. That’s why they call that a cover crop. I drilled oats and soybeans together last year and sprayed roundup on it the oats made a great weed mat for the rest of the season

    • @uoutdoors

      We shall see! The Rye established really well after this mowing (I have another video showing the update) so with both the clover and rye growing I don’t think the clover will choke it out. May actually be the opposite with the Rye suppressing the clover due to how thick it is now. Will be interesting to see next spring👍🏻

    I’m not sure if that would work in southern states. I’ve actually done this and it failed because the rye dies so early in the year that summer weeds take over, In my case anyway.

    I keep getting the same 30 photos from one of my cameras from about 2 months ago. It sends them every hour and burns through my plan in a few days so I can't get any additional photos until my next plan month begins. Any ideas what could cause this? Could this be an issue with the home base, or with the camera that the photos were taken? I currently have 6 cameras set up and I am not sure of the daisy chain links.

    When was the initial plant (you said august, right)? What was your seeding rate of the wr and (which clovers?

    • @uoutdoors
      @uoutdoors 9 місяців тому

      Initial planting was the previous year about August 25th. This was our Fall 365 mix so the rye portion would come out to around 20 lbs/ac. Clover in that mix was medium red, we added more clover to this years seed mix for a full rate since I thought it was a little light in this plot. The additional clover is ladino white clover to give us more diversity, better weed control, and more forage.

    First time watching....subbed...good content and solid video, thank you for producing:) Just a thought, but generally, I dont like to put water holes on the food plot. You already have the attraction, the FOOD. But, I often put them off the plot where I might have a stand on a travel corridor with great access. Entices to come where I want them.... Anyway, just a thought, like the video, will be watching for more!

      Thanks for the input and sub, glad you liked it! On this small property I only have 2 stand sites and the one with the waterhole has great access, that's why I put it there vs somewhere else. Every property is different so it's hard to say where to put things every time but I do think my thought process is a bit different than others I've seen on UA-cam. I prefer to concentrate movement as much as possible and actually have fewer stand sites. Most others seem to want more stand locations on a property. I'll explain the whole setup on Episode 8 with a map, I'm sure it'll make more sense then :)

    I have a 4 cuddelink camera w/home base unit setup. I've had it for 2 years now. Was wondering if only 5 - 6 weeks of battery life is normal for Cuddeback? I have other manufacturers Moultrie and Bushnell that use 6 or 8 AA and last 9 months or more on 1 set of batteries. I even test those cams side by side with the cuddeback and get as many and more pictures from the Bushnell and Moultrie that the Cuddebacks ...🤔 I really like the Cuddelink idea, but really, really hate always having to constantly buy D cell batteries, especially with absolutely nowhere to dispose of/recycle small batteries. (Could have bought 2 or 3 more Bushnell cameras for the cost in batteries lately.) Plus defeats the purpose of cuddelink for not having to go pull cards when you have to go anyway to swap batteries. Seen the external 6 cell pack, but afraid that's only gonna create more waste. How long do the rechargeable D cells last with the solar panels?

    • @uoutdoors
      @uoutdoors 10 місяців тому

      On a 4D powered camera you should get 1 1/2 to 2 months of run time depending on pic counts, link signal strength, etc..could be less with lots of pictures. I’m assuming those moultrie and bushnell cameras are just SD cams, most cellular (and cuddelink) take much more power to operate. I recommend external power on every brand of cell cam I’ve sold. I definitely recommend external power on the Cuddelinks, they just take more power to run and like you mentioned the point is to not visit the camera very often. There’s 2 different solar panel options. 1) is the PW-3600, this works well if you have good sunlight and are placing cameras on trails, scrapes, field/food plot edges. I’ve had them run for a year without touching them. uoutdoors1.com/store/solar-power-bank-model-pw-3600 Option 2) is the PW-003 sun and shade solar panel, this can work in semi shaded areas and full sun and would be a good option for everywhere including feeder locations. It is a bit overkill for moderate pic locations with good sunlight though. uoutdoors1.com/store/cuddeback-super-solar-panel-pw-003 You can also go with external battery packs like the Dx6 or Dual Power Bank, you would be using more D batteries though which it sounds like you prefer not to use. These would be good in wooded spots where solar wouldn’t be ideal. If you have any other questions please let me know👍🏻

    • @whitetailhunter7202

      @uoutdoors I'll check out those options. Just checked my cameras, and it shows 2 of the cameras, I just put fresh batteries in 3 weeks ago, as low. Neither of them have had many pics taken lately. Maybe 50-100 pics in the 3 weeks... I guess I just expected more out of cameras that cost $200 each.

    Does the xgen 2 provide video? Can’t find it on app

    • @uoutdoors
      @uoutdoors Рік тому

      Yes it does. You need to have your camera settings to pic + video and you then need to request the video (it doesn’t automatically get sent to the app). The video (and HD photo requests) cost extra, it’s $5/50 requests.

    Do you have any experience using NI-MH batteries? I just picked up a G series, within 5 days i was getting a report that the batteries were low. I wasn't expecting the cycles to be as long as good alkaline batteries, but 5 days is not a tenable solution for me. I'm heavily considering the power bank at this point.

    • @uoutdoors
      @uoutdoors Рік тому

      Rechargeable batteries won’t work inside your G cam because the voltage is to low with only 4 D batteries. I also wouldn’t recommend rechargeables in the 6D externals as they just won’t last very long without something to keep them recharged. If you want to use those rechargeable D batteries I would put them inside a Dual Power Bank and also hook a PW-3600 solar panel to it or if you have some 6D cameras (K or J with 6D back) you could do the same by putting those batteries inside the camera and hooking up solar directly to the camera. Hope this helps and wasn’t to confusing👍🏻

    Is there any way to secure the Cuddeback Dual Power Bank? For example, the place where one of my cuddelink cameras is deployed is at the end of a road and that camera gets a decent amount of traffic. The place the camera sits is shaded. Is there a way to mount the battery pack so it cannot be tampered with or stolen? Any suggestions, maybe from a different manufacture?

    • @uoutdoors
      @uoutdoors 2 роки тому

      Yes, you can run a cable lock through the bottom hole on the mount and it’ll lock the pack to the mount and the mount to the tree. You can also use a locking clip and padlock it to the mount as well, in that case I’d probably get a metal mount and screw it to the tree.

    So there isn't any changes on from the menus for a solar panel? I have int bat 4d on the menu. Thanks in advance!!!

    • @uoutdoors
      @uoutdoors 2 роки тому

      No, there’s no settings that need to be changed internally. The 4D setting you see is on the J series cameras and is referring to the battery compartment on the camera itself. The J cameras have come with 12 AA, 6D, and now 4D battery compartments so you just have to set it to the correct one. If yours takes 4D then leave it as is👍🏻

      You can kind of see the impact in the video, it was farther back than I wanted but I still caught lungs and didn’t touch the guts. Found the round ball near his rear quarter on the opposite side just under the skin.

    I got these this year. I only put in Duracell batteries in both banks, no rechargables. At about 130 days my Cuddelink report said the batteries were low, so I changed them. After I got home I tested the batteries and 10 of 16 were like brand new and 6 showed usage, but they weren’t low. I put the cameras out in May anticipating these packs would get me through gun season. Looks like they will, but why would the low battery indicator be showing up on my report? Is that for the 4 main batteries?

    • @uoutdoors
      @uoutdoors 2 роки тому

      It sounds like only 1 of the 2 banks was low, on your report it should say Ext 1 or 2 (can’t recall which shows first) and then it will go low. Once that bank (6 batteries) dies it’ll go to the second bank and do the same thing. Then that bank will go low and the report should show OK, that means the camera is now using its internal batteries and the ones in the DPB are dead. Each bank (6 batteries) should last you 3-4 months which it sounds like it did. Hopefully that makes sense, if not please let me know👍🏻

    Is there ANY chance that buckle can pop open accidentally? Because if not, I could shave quite a bit of weight by having to use that ratchet that comes with the ROS.

    • @uoutdoors
      @uoutdoors 2 роки тому

      No, there’s no chance of it popping open if you cam it over all the way. It’s supper tight and the buckle is firmly against the tree.
