The great thing I like is that every container of eggs are marked with an expiration date. That way you know how long that container will last you.

@@OhJodi69 thanks for the info. I'm sure that's true , but the expiration date on the container is for a very long time, and they'll be used up before then.

Great tips I knew you could freeze them, but I completely forgot all about it. I just bought a dozen eggs for 4.23 and I’m really trying to have them last a month

Good morning Jan, Great egg tips! Never realized they had a pointy -ish end until you said it and I immediately realized it was true. Interesting! I have been getting my eggs at walmart....5 dozen for just under 22.00. Gulp! That lasts us a month. They are becoming an investment these days, but a great protein source and so versatile. One of those things most of us must buy. Have a wonderful day!❤❤❤

Happy Sunday ! I haven’t been eating eggs, for probably a few months. All of a sudden , I was craving eggs yesterday. Instead of cooking fresh eggs, I remembered I had fried some eggs & frozen them. The frozen , fried eggs, weren’t bad, reheated . I topped them with/ cheese & had a good source of protein . Thanks for the tips on freezing raw eggs! I have been baking lately, with recipes that call for no eggs or less eggs. The yeast free bread recipe, I make, uses no eggs & the bread rises due to baking powder . The recipe calls for milk , but I use 1/2 water, 1/2 milk. It calls for 1/4 C oil, which isn’t too bad …. But , the price of oil, is expensive too. I appreciate your channel . Like you say, where there’s a will there’s a way , & we have to get creative !!! We have to put our brains together & help each other , w/ these money saving tips . ❤

Great tips, as usual, Jan! Especially about "hidden eggs". I like to actually eat eggs, so I'm trying not to use them so much in batters, baked goods, etc. And I had to laugh about the eggs sticking to the pan.......I did that the other day, stuck two eggs to a stainless steel pan, because I forgot it would need more oil than nonstick. Store eggs on the bottom shelf of the fridge, where it's coldest. ALSO......of course check each egg in the carton before you buy it, but ALSO check again as soon as you get home. If you cracked one, go ahead and cook it, then if you don't feel like eating it, then, put it in the fridge. For baking, you can replace one egg with one teaspoon of Baking POWDER. I've done this, it works great, however don't use it if the recipe calls for only one egg. If you need two eggs for it, sub the baking powder for one of them. Otherwise, with no egg, the muffin, cake, etc, doesn't seem to hold together. (Didn't stop me from eating it, though!) I love eggs. I will continue to buy them. I believe they are one of the most perfect, healthy foods. But I'm being much more careful with them. I'm single, and can still thankfully afford them (I trimmed my grocery spending other ways), but I feel so bad for people with families.

Hi again, Janet. Sometimes, during the warmer weather months, I go to laundromat to save wear/tear on my washing machine. When the roads are snowy, slippery and choaked with road salt, I use the washing machine at the house. I always wash a full load over half loads. I'm very fortunate to have outside clothes lines. Thanks, Janet. Stay safe, warm and well. Likewise, for your family and viewers.

For most sweaters, I use a lanolin based liquid soap that doesn't have to be rinsed out. Does wonders for wool or part wool things and polyesters, etc. Let air dry. My sweaters look new SO much longer now. And great ideas, thanks!

I have made my own laundry detergent in the past, and it was a disaster. It did not clean any of the clothing. I ended up using so much because I wanted to get the clothes clean. I find if you just use a little bit of good brand, laundry soapit goes a long way like I have one laundry soap that’s last me the entire year.

Good Morning 🌄 Jan! This is a subject near and dear to my heart. I only use detergent if the clothing is heavily soiled, Or new to the house. You are correct that the agitation is what does the majority of the cleaning. The detergent I do use is dilute 1:1 with water. I save the jugs to store the diluted detergent and I mark 0.5 on the jug with a sharpie to denote that it's been diluted. I use One tablespoon of detergent. Too much detergent is hard on the clothes and the washing machine. I only wash with cold water. I only hang dry. I have clothes lines in an area of my basement. In another area I have dowels for hanging using clothes hangers, And two wooden drying racks. I never run a dryer. I can make my own detergent as well using washing soda, borax, And castile soap. There are how to videos here on UA-cam to make liquid and powder detergents. If you must use a dryer and you want soft clothes crumble up a ball of aluminum foil, And throw it in the dryer with the clothes instead of a dryer sheet. One aluminum ball lasts about a year. Thank You Jan for bringing this discussion of clothes maintenance, And educating us on ways to lower the cost. I will be watching the comments to see if I can pick up more tips. God Bless You and yours.

Just an idea, sprouting 'salad blend' sprouting seeds to add greens instead of those expensive salad makings at the grocery store (and lately not so safe many times) A piece of bread, a couple slices of cheese, and/or bacon, or lunch meat, or left over other meat with some of those sprouted salad is almost gourmet.

Daily mail is not a problem for me. On the short walk to the mailbox, I go through it on my way back. ANYTHING sales related, geezer mail, junk mail, goes immediately into a recycling box in the garage. My problem is my overflowing file cabinet - because I’m not sure what to declutter and what to keep, and for how long! And I HATE filing! It’s always a ‘big project’ that I keep procrastinating.😵‍💫

Hi Janet. Sometimes, I try to "bulk up" my breakfast with hashbrowns or fried sliced up potatoes ("hobo fries"). Soup and a turkey/Swiss cheese sandwich is always a good and simply meal for lunch. Possibly, add a tossed salad with that soup/sandwich combo. Thanks, Janet. Stay safe, warm and well.
