      The first one has been super reliable and good on fuel and I needed a diesel for a PowerWheels dump truck I was building. I have a video on the reasons you should buy this one of these engines as well.

    6 ft/lbs is approximately 1 to 1.5 ft/lbs less than a 125 petrol motorcycle engine. & even THAT torque peak would arrive at 2,600, not 3,600. Which, if it is a genuine rating, is about right for a simple 200 cc diesel. Diesels don't make more torque than an equivalent capacity petrol engine. They make significantly less! Unless they are turbo or supercharged. An indirect injection diesel has a compression ratio of around 21:1. A direct injection diesel is around 18 or 19:1. That level of compression requires huge pumping losses to overcome, & diesel burn is much slower than petrol, which is why torque production falls away quickly in static injection timing engines after 3,000 rpm. This is why power output is so modest compared to an equivalent capacity petrol, which produces significantly more torque at the traditional industrial rpm of 3,600, & can easily more than double that rpm. The entire purpose of compression ignition was efficiency. It was never power, nor intended to compete with petrol engines in output. My 500 cc diesel motorcycle can achieve 180 mpg. My 50 cc scooter achieves 120 mpg while producing a quarter of the horsepower of the diesel. I cruise at double the speed for only 2/3 rds of the little petrol engines consumption. If this little 3 hp diesel were fitted to a small light motorbike, with gearing to allow a reasonable 28 mph at 3,600, an economy of 250 mpg could be well on the cards.

    • @jwsbackyard6413
      @jwsbackyard6413 8 днів тому

      The 212 that I’m comparing it to is governed at around 3500 rpm which is the same as the diesel. What gearing is best for a diesel?

    • @2ndspingarage
      @2ndspingarage 8 днів тому

      @jwsbackyard6413 diesels run at half the speed of a gas engines. Which can cause an issue with clutches working correctly. That diesel engine probably on gets to 3500rpms tops. Gearing depends on what the application is.

    • @jwsbackyard6413
      @jwsbackyard6413 8 днів тому

      @@2ndspingaragethat’s what I’m saying. The factory 212 is limited to 3500 rpm which is the same as the diesel. So it is turning the same rpm as the gas 212 but making half the power and less torque. You said that no one gears diesels correctly but can’t give me a gearing that is ‘correct’ for diesels. There isn’t any evidence for those arguments.

    • @2ndspingarage
      @2ndspingarage 8 днів тому

      @jwsbackyard6413 because nothing is in front of me, and I don't have any numbers. Anyone who's worked with diesels would laugh at what you just said. Mechanical injection pumps usually don't go past 3700 rpms. Go watch cars and cameras diesel build on there go kart. With diesels, you're looking for torque, not horsepower.

    • @2ndspingarage
      @2ndspingarage 8 днів тому

      @jwsbackyard6413 that 212 can run higher 3500 than 3500 rpms.

    Hey JW, I have a question on my gear ratio. I have a minibike with a 224 engine, I’m running stock 6 inch wheels and tires and it has a 70 tooth sprocket. I’ll be running a clutch with the sprocket what would be a good size front sprocket? I’m not going off-roading with just riding the local streets, thanks in advance.

    Ok. I think I'm set on a 4:1 ration for the kids go-kart (yerfdog spider box) original engine was DOA. I have 212 swapped it and am going to run an Amazon torque converter(clone 30 series). Rear tires are 20x10-8 tires. It's my 7 and 8 year olds kart. Does this seem like it should work? And if I add a vevo gearbox to that for D, N and R am I looking at changing gears again?

    Wow only three horsepower? I took the governor off my predator and while I was at it I had to change the flywheel if they didn't want that thing exploding at 10000 RPMs and my lifter springs and a couple other mods in there while I was doing it I don't have a dino or anything but my son does like 45 mi an hour in his go-kart I just stand there and yell slow down the entire time........ But that being said considering I do run an excavation company all the diesel I put in that little baby would be a tax write-off.. and well it's diesel you know.. now what's the possibility of turboing that thing? Not to mention I always come across houses that I'm demolitioning with full oil tanks free fuel I think I should pick one of these up I don't know why though trying to talk myself into a as we speak

    • @jwsbackyard6413
      @jwsbackyard6413 11 днів тому

      Really they aren’t made for something like a go kart. It would be great on something like a generator or something that it’s just constantly running at a steady rpm. It uses probably half the fuel as my 212 and has been reliable. Cranks on the first or second pull about every time. Don’t have to worry about constantly maintaining it trying to keep gas from clogging the carb if you leave it sitting longer than a few weeks.
