- 196cc Diesel Engine from eBay or Amazon. Comet 30 series torque converter on a Murray Explorer go-kart. Swapping torque converter springs.

Why does your belt look WAY TOO BIG? Fix that first. If the belt is too big, your springs are irrelevant as engagement cannot occur until the rpms are very high. The primary pulley expands most of the way while the belt is still slack...because it is too big.
Besides that, your full throttle is just over idle. Have you checked the actual rpm at full throttle?

The belt was snug when installed. Hadn’t really noticed it but either it has stretched on the engine has moved; I’m going to have to look at it. Haven’t checked rpm, don’t have a measuring method that doesn’t involve measuring spark so it’s not going to work on the diesel.
You should try a go kart with the yanmar clone 10hp diesel engine

I just watched your first start of this engine, you mentioned that you dissasembled injector pump while bleeding air fuel lines, maybe you rotated little that pump so its not firing at exact moment it needs? Or the problem is injector itself.

Will it bind if you mismatch the springs ? Or if you use the light springs but drill holes in each of the weights to find the right balance?
Mixing the springs would probably result in uneven engagement but theoretically lighter weights could increase the engagement rpm but I would wonder if it would effect how much power the converter could hold.
It doesn’t seem to be running right. I have the same engine on a go kart and it revs right up. Your engine seems to be sputtering.
It’s sputtering because it’s having trouble moving the kart. The gearing and weight of the kart is likely too aggressive for this engine. It revs fine with no sputtering when not connected to anything.
That engine really doesn't seem happy! Mine doesn't smoke much at all!

Too steep of gears your geared too low.
Yeah I’ve been thinking the same. I had a Predator 212 on it that did fine with the same gearing but the diesel is struggling.
@@jwsbackyard6413 I think the diesel and gas engines have different torque/HP specs at different Rpm which is why they do better at ether acceleration or speed. Non the less your doing a amazing job with your diesel swap kart I've watched all your videos keep up the awesome work with that engine. I'm currently putting mine in a Ford ranger I'm making into a go-kart lol. I've been thinking about advancing the timing on the 196 diesel it's actually really easy to set the timing on these engines. Basically you just have to make sure the pushrods are in the rockers and make sure that the lifters are all the way up when you put the cam in. Make sure before you take the camshaft out that you have the two Marked on the crankshaft and camshaft together and go from there. I'm thinking of bumping it up one degree at a time and see if I get any extra power or performance out of it. Good luck brother! Keep the awesome diesel videos!!!

Try out some gear changes.... its an odd thought but you really need to know it's rpm
Yeah I’ve been thinking the gearing may be to aggressive. It worked ok with a Predator 212 but hasn’t been great for the diesel. I have swapped to a larger sprocket on the jackshaft and got some good results but may need to go bigger.
@jwsbackyard6413 try to fit some sort of tach for it. Otherwise you really won't know if it's even getting to its rpm limit... that may help figure out gearing as well
Do they sell a spring kit online?
They sell pairs at places like gopowersports, omb warehouse, and ebay but I haven’t seen any selling all the options together as a kit

No, these engines will do that under very high load . Also they are straight from china where there is no emissions standards anyway......
@@olgreen True,its not going to win any green awards, but i have a similar Chinese engine in a digger, which was smoking like that also (NEW from factory!). After disassembling and cleaning the injector it smokes far less, has more low end torque and sounds a lot better.
