This video provides an overview of the design features and finish of the 3" straight razor strops from Deacon Leather Co. including one made from Horween Shell Cordovan as well as other horsehide options.
I’m late to this video but this is awesome now I wanna try to make one
10:16 PM. How can I get one of yout strops
I make my own books with it and it embosses entire titles into leather perfectly.
Can you put a cordovan strop on a Site so I can buy it?🎉
I'm looking at getting an embossing machine and I like the Kingsley. I happen to be a machinist and can make those holders. LMK if you're still in need of some, if I end up making some I can make some extras.
I just so happen to own a ton of Kingsley stuff, I bought about 25 years ago from the widow of a Kingsley sales rep for my custom invitation home business. So, I have bits and pieces of Kingsley stuff that most people don't and most of it looks brand new or barely used. I have two machines that I am going to package individually and each of the two packages will include all the parts and accessories that I have that a person would need to do most everything with a Kingsley machine. This way you would not have to worry about never being able to find Kingsley pieces that you might need to replace or need for a certain function in the future. Each package will also have extra, non- Kingsley items you would need for the practical use of the machine, like a light, ruler and small tool kit. However the packages will not contain type. I do have lots of type, but I felt the choice of a font was too personal. I have not worked out all the details yet, I plan to list the first machine package on ebay by the end of the month 10/31/24. But just to give you an idea of price, the two packages should be around, $1,800 to $ 2,300. If you should happen to be interested, email me debbelpalm@comcast.net and I will be happy to send photos and a parts list. But being a machinist you might not need everything I have included in each package. I would love to know what you are planning to use a Kingsley for, I believe you work leather by your account name?
The type you have are called Fonts. They are used in printing presses. For printing stationary, business cards, tickets for raffles etc. Yes it was and old style printing presses before rotogrevier and before computers. I used that type of press I even had a hand press years ago then I got into flexopress which is rotogrevier, which started out with rubber plates. They now make and use syrell plates, I use the lead type still in my leather craft.
You can also use a seam ripper (used in sewing) to cut the thread rather than cutting into the leather to cut the thread.
Also, Leather Stamp Maker Makes their own Kingsley adapter to use with their custom stamps
Great quality, precision, and craftsmanship! I truly enjoyed.👏🫡
I'm not sure where one is supposed to get this machine... Any decent ones are $1000+. I'd rather get a brand new Metallic Elephant.
They’re on eBay but who knows what kind of state they’re in… these are old machines from around the WWII era.
Did it and it actually came out pretty good...thanks!! 🙌
Do you think stamping on cardstock would work?
Do you sell these ? I am interested
Is the canvas portion necessary for a good strop?
Start with the rubber-cork core and then tightly wind it with hundreds of miles of string, first.
Looks like it would be great practice. Im brand new to leather work and still trying to figure out stitching so i may be trying this.
Excellent job, thanks for sharing
What holds the bells on the backside?
Nice video and thanks for sharing your views on each type of shell. One request is you should offer a 2.5 inch version of the shell strops. I have many strops new and vintage and by for my favorite ones are 2.5". I have been using a straight razor for over 8 years and have tried most all famous makers from around the globe. Just a heads up as there are many shavers like me and I have been a meber of SRD and B&B for meny years and can say the majority like the 2.5" over the 3" as it has been asked countless times in the two forums. Great product and keep up the good work.
What material is this
Your thread is too thin use a thicker thread and your panels will be fine no more ripped stitch holes ❤ and lovely job keep it coming baby Edit I recommend using a thick flat thread it will not rip
😮
Do you sell these???? I want one for my razor
Very nice. I currently have 3 hanging stropa for my straight razors. A horse and 2 cowhides
Do you have a recommendation for a font that would match what you typically see as Holy Bible on the front of a Bible?
What a beautiful piece of craftsmanship. Beautiful baseball.
I truly do not intend to be rude, but there is a lot about this machine that you don't seem to know. So you realize you are missing parts that hold the foil and advances the foil every time you make an impression. You are not supposed to cut off a piece of foil and stick it under the hot die with your fingers. Also, there are different types of boards (rubber, plastic & cardboard etc) available to put under whatever material you are stamping to increase the quality of the impression. The boards also protect the type from being damaged from hitting the base plate. If you do not get a clean & crisp impression, regardless of the type size, it is because you are not doing it correctly. The main cause of such issues is the temperature. You should start at 250 degrees and adjust from there. You can use a rubber cement pickup to clean up impressions of excess foil. Here is the big surprise, you obviously do not have the part that was made for the machine that is meant to hold down leather goods. Ever wondered what that chrome piece screwed on the side of the machine, just opposite the handle, is for? Well that is where you clamp the part for holding leather goods. For your reference it is called a leather goods clamp. I hope this will help you enjoy your Kingsley more and good luck with your leather craft business. One last thing. I noticed you seem to like the gold foil. You can use 24kt gold leaf to stamp on leather as well. Kingsley did make some, but I do not know it you can use the gold leaf you can buy at craft stores. But I don't see why it would not work.
Hi Deborah, thank you for your comment. I actually had the roll holder that advances the foil on the machine originally, and removed it because it actually was not at all suitable to my needs. When using it for leather, I’m not batching out foil stamps (like on post cards or something) so I have no need to do more than one in a row. I would much rather remove the holder and have the extra visibility under the stamp to ensure I am lined up correctly. The boards aren’t needed for leather stamping and I need it to be firm under the leather and the metal baseplate works just fine. I have seen the leather clamp and that would be something I would like to experiment with in the future
In 2011-2012 I worked at a downtown retail store in a dying town that used one of these exact machines for various purposes; the roll holder thing had been removed long ago cause we never knew if the customer wanted silver or gold foil, so we also just cut a piece of the foil. The craziest thing is, the owner let high school workers use the machine. Thankfully no one got hurt, but some things got messed up. I do think the commenter is onto something with the boards though, I do recall us using various ones for different things. I guess it would depend on the kind of leather you are embossing. The owner of the store sold it about a year or so after I left. I asked the next owner about this machine and she had no idea what I was talking about. I’m thinking the owner I worked under either sold the machine separately or took it home. I’ve been meaning to ask her, as I’m now looking to acquire one of these machines myself.

I use superglue to temporarily stick a die onto my base. I also cut pieces of foil to manually place under the press. Most of us aren’t not running a kluge for hundreds of thousands of impressions. 😂 Auto feeding foil isn’t always necessary
My dad owned this machine and used it to stamp his photography logo onto leather bound photo albums.
whats that cost and where do you sell it?
I neeeeeeed it! *spongebob voice*
Hi where do I get quality pattern paper like the one in your videos?
Next time make a gay one
My grandma says her aunt would beat her with a razor strop when she was a kid
Now make a Gay Razor Strop
Welp today i learned that thing is called a strop
My mum used to have one of these and a funny black suit with a balaclava but I always thought it was for stealing, thank you for helping me realise my mum was really just a really good leather worker.
what's this used for?
Thought it was grip tape for skateboard at first
I have that same embossing machine, I inherited it from my Mother who used it in her wedding shop. They used it to put names and dates on ribbons.
What is it
My dad always just used his belt. One of the reasons I made sure to get a nice leather belt too. What's the other fabric though?
Not to be rude like I kinda get it’s convenience, but why not just get a strop for the purpose and keep your nice leather belt looking nice and not using stropping compounds on it
@@billym7930 because that side of it doesn't get seen. Also, for bushcraft never really used a compound either. Keep in mind my strops are for knifes, not a barber's straight razor and that I'm by no means any kind of professional. Still get them shaving sharp most of the time.
Heads up, some peeps in the replies seem to have some... views. If you dont want to see misogyny or glorification of abuse, you should probably skip the replies!
I peeped the Neptune very nice
Вот это я понимаю качественная работа!
what is the yellow block for? Some type of wax I assume?
What were these for
Now make a gay one
Yes
My uncle was a Barber,he used his old one on my 1st cousins for ass whippings .Said it was his strap of education...
