  • A video that compares and contrasts the subtle differences in 3 different versions of Shell Cordovan as it relates to usage as a straight razor strop. The 3 companies compared are:
    1) Horween (Chicago, USA)
    2) Toscana (Italy)
    3) Shinki Hikaku (Japan)
Have you used a strop from any of these tanneries? Let me know your experience below!

Nice video and thanks for sharing your views on each type of shell.
One request is you should offer a 2.5 inch version of the shell strops. I have many strops new and vintage and by for my favorite ones are 2.5". I have been using a straight razor for over 8 years and have tried most all famous makers from around the globe. Just a heads up as there are many shavers like me and I have been a meber of SRD and B&B for meny years and can say the majority like the 2.5" over the 3" as it has been asked countless times in the two forums.
Great product and keep up the good work.

    HI
I don`t under stand why strop makers don`t pad the handles with filling` it makes a more comfortable hold. I have made my own strops for my self in the past with bridle horse hide and cow hide,
I would say it is time consuming and one mistake will show with the stitching and cut of the leather.
The strops look nice and supple` have you used camel leather, ive heard its a good leather for strops,

I own some camel leather so I can speak on behalf of some of its qualities..
Firstly, it's a pretty tough type of leather well stronger then bovine, not quite as strong as kangaroo so it fits nicely among horse hide. Its also fairly flexible.
Secondly, acquiring some can be surprisingly difficult depending on where you are located. Some countries ban the sell of products made from the leather but not necessarily ban the import of the leather in its original form.. Then of course just finding a supplier can be tough as not many companies carry it.
Finally and this is my own opinion, I believe it would make a fine strop because of the aforementioned qualities. The only negative I can find about this type of letter is it mostly comes chrome tanned. It's hard to find it naturally vegetable tanned which is preferred for strops.
Hopefully this helps you in some way or somehow! Good luck! 👍
