OBSCURIST TOURIST 153 - The Heidelberg Project is one of the most inspiring pieces of art in all of Detroit. The brainchild of artist Tyree Guyton - who returned to his beloved street in Detroit's East Side in 1986 - the idea was to bring Heidelberg back to what it once was. As much of a personal goal as it was a project that would unite the entire neighbourhood, Guyton was intent on changing t...

Niiiice. Thanks for that!
As for the time frame I believe it took place in 1949 for a couple of reasons.. in the classroom Miss Shields open the drawer upper desk which clearly shows a set of chatter teeth which was invented in 1949.. also there are African-American students in the classroom at the time when Indiana began the first steps in desegregation... However there is a 1939 calendar on the wall in the kitchen.
THEY SHOULD FIX THE ROOF OF THE HOTEL LOOKS OLD AND STRIPPED AND ALSO CLEAN THE TRASH FROM THE PROPERTY ! Its a shame to see it go down
I dunno if it’s the climate or whatever, but I agree. I’d love to see this place somewhat brought back to life. It’s such a unique gem. ❤️
I was stopped in Goldfield a few years ago, just playing with my phone, when a guy pulled up next to me and flashed his gun at me. Very strange and scary
This does not surprise me at all. It’s like the Wild West over there. 🤯
what a quaint little place. i love it. that theatre is STUNNING
It really is wonderful. 🥰
the "apple" looked like a tilt o whirl to me...
Now that you mention it … it DOES! 🥰
Fun fact: the bridge where the family car got the flat tire is the same bridge that Leslie Barbera in the photo booth was thrown off of in the movie Police academy
I JUST watched Police Academy the other day. They filmed a ton of scenes in the Cherry Beach area. 🤗 Thanks for the info and thank you so much for watching!!! ❤️
It's no problem.. I wasn't sure if anybody was aware of it or not but just in case. I threw it out there.
I always thought it was placed there as a reminder for the myriad lunatic drivers.
It’s not a terrible guess, considering. 😂
I Was In There For A Couple Of Years When It Was A Reform School Or Juvenile Detention Got Out In 1976 👈 🎥👀🤠🇨🇦
I saw this hotel featured back in the 80s in the music video by Robert Plant ~Big Log. I made it a point to find it and have been back multiple times.
I always go to the prominance of the Wizard of OZ inclusion in the Parade. Which would mean that the movie was recently released.
What does the Bob-low island look like now & in the 60/70’s . Ty’s for the visit
Primitive! I probably know the answer but was there WI-FI 8 in the place?
Haha. No TV. No WIFI! A true throwback 😱
I’ve got a schoolhouse foundation on my family farm property. It’s on an acre lot severed from the farm 1903 is the date from the original homestead(1898) Foundation, woodshed and well are all in good condition… I’d like to rebuild it in my retirement
lol NASA! "Never A Straight Answer!"
Haha. Exactly. The relevancy of NASA is fading faaaaaaast
@@ObscuristTourist my favorite is how they just can't seem to give a reasonable explanation to why they can't build the shuttle that got them to that moon. They just need a studio and few release forms lol
You must have gone during the warm months, because right now the only people wearing shorts are visitors from cold regions . It's in the 50's during the day here in Southern NM and Roswell is more to the north and east, so it's colder.
You are right! This was from a visit I made in May. 👽
Man, this channel is like a travelogue filled with destinations catered just for me. Super cool. I'm going to start hitting some of these when I get the time.
Thanks so much for watching! I’m glad someone else enjoys all these weird little places as much as I do!!! 🫡😎
Dang, that lady was fucking cool. That hotel is awesome.
She really was. I wish I had the opportunity to see one of her performances or meet her. ❤️
It only took 75 years for the government to come out and agree that yes, there are extraterrestrials out there.
They still have a lot to reveal! Hopefully 2025 is the year it all comes to light. 🙏
I too thought the bully's name was Scott 😄 I only realised it was actually Scut when I acquired the soundtrack to the movie
Seems to be a common misconception for everyone! 😂
t'was my dad, and his father ,and the one before that.that have always been the groundskeepers for their family homestead ..and now here is where we all lay..i am the last of that line ..that kept it cleared, and caringly tended to. the graves and stones, may they forever rest in place , even those reclaimed by mother earth , shall forever be her treasure..a token..of who once walked or roamed..forever with her always, on her journey as she goes..like a locket in her pocket on her sailing ship called home.
Going with 1940 just because of the decoder. Wizard of oz was still new. Why would it be placed in 39 when the decoder said 1940. Plus they went to great lengths to get things in that era. They wouldn't miss with that.
This movie was directed by Bob Clark who directed Black Christmas. The house and movie is set in Cleveland, the epicenter of NASA, pedophilia Satanic culture and murder and a horrid form of Marxism and gentrification, racism with in the city instituted by the local government, police, NASA and the CIA. Remember the leg lamp? Thats for creeps. This is for the NASA pedophilic Eisenhower daddy culture thats meant to institute brainwashing, abuse and is covered by a veneer of 1950's nostalgia. It's horrible MK Ultra brainwashing leading to a narco state and the apocalypse that benefits the new world order. Facebook and Michigan are involved. Of course, Canada too. Cleveland history is based on cars, NASA, aerospace, and the war economy, this and their downtown area is still linked to all of this including 9/11. Look at all the companies with offices in the downtown Cleveland (and Chicago) skyscrapers and you'll see they're part of horrid evil connected to the September 11th attacks and Wall Street companies that benefited from it including the banks and NASA. The law firms in downtown Cleveland skyscrapers and are part of this too.
😂😂😂
The decoder ring said 1940, because it was brand new for the New Year coming.. it was Christmas of 1939.
I think there was a sign in the shopping scene that said 1939
Yes, of course it takes place Christmas of 1939, and 1940 is the new year coming up.. its obvious through out the movie.
Yooooo, that opera house is RADass! Thanks for sharing bc now I want to go see it for myself.
December 2024, the car used in the movie is now in Barrie Ontario. It was in their Santa parade. The car shown near the house in Cleveland is a fraud! As well as the firetruck there.
Holiday story? Come on you fool. It is a CHRISTMAS STORY! Christmas. Period. My holidays are in July. I am so sick and tired of this weak holiday scaredy cat BS!!!!!!
I saw Marta perform several times as a kid ❤❤❤❤❤❤ never stayed there.
It's your favourite Christmas movie. You live in Toronto. And you didn't know half of the scenes were filmed in your own town?
12:35 those are headphone
will you get in trouble if you go here and or get caught?
Not sure you can get in here anymore - as they started work on the building to convert it into something else. Sorry I couldn’t help. 🙏
Its called "Christmas" movie, not holiday movie.
“Christmas” is literally in the title of the video 😂
As vast portions of California become more and more expensive, I wonder if people will began to repopulate these places that have been largely lost to time.
If the pandemic didn’t repopulate these places, I’m not sure what will. A lack of industry and infrastructure is the biggest obstacle to people reviving these places, unfortunately. As long as these places aren’t forgotten, I’m happy.
@@ObscuristTourist Not to be argumentative, but the pandemic restricted people's movements, lockdowns and all. But now, people are seeking places/opportunities where can they survive and thrive. Sometimes it takes just a few industrious people to turn an area around. Last thought, your channel looks great.
@@shinobirising8196It’s interesting cuz in Canada, most of the relocations happened DURING the pandemic. So many people I know left big cities and moved back to their small towns in BC or in New Brunswick/Nova Scotia. I think that had more to do with restrictions and working from home - being that it allowed people to move away from big cities. The opposite has been happening over the past two years with people moving back to the city. BUT, the cities they left are now much different. Pandemics have a 20-year ripple effect, so perhaps you are right in hoping that some of these really small forgotten places get revitalized by those frustrated with the cost of housing in places that don’t seem to make sense anymore. One can hope. 🙏😊
What creepy place, much too much of an imprint from one person's life for me. The art is creepy horrible and the opera house is so gaudy its oppressive to me. I will never stay at that hotel.
Art is subjective, so what one person finds interesting another finds offensive. For me, I love kitsch and gaudy. Perhaps not for my own house; but I do find places like this interesting. Def not my style per se, but cool nonetheless. And yes, creepy for sure! Thanks for watching. 🤗❤️
@ObscuristTourist I'm sure she lurks in the closed off section. The structure may have absorbed her energy from her spirit. She probably walks the hallway singing to an imaginary audience. Her playing to a empty opera house is strange. It may be more than just a rehearsal. Seems odd she chose an isolated place like death valley. Why not NY or SF.
Where in Toronto was the tree lot at?? What street..you should givin areas or street names😮 great video otherwise thanks so much
What a wonderful video ,,, Cheer's ,,, just loving it ,,, nice job :)
Thanks for the kind words and thanks for watching! Happy New Year!!! ❤️🤗
I love this! I saw the movie when it 1st came out in the theaters….I loved it and told my friends and we all went together to see it
Amazing! Thanks so much for watching!!! Def my fave Xmas movie. 🤗
The Chinese restaurant is my favorite scene. Hilarious!
It’s so pure. I love it, too. 🤗
I hate how you didn't say where these locations are just standing in front of them selfie style like "we here, this where it was" ...good video other wise
At the time when I made this, I wasn’t sure how long some of these places would stick around - especially since it was during the pandemic. I will post location info in the description below this video shortly. Thanks so much for watching!
Did the PATH ever recover after the pandemic?
Kind of, but only because most workers in the downtown core didn’t go back into the office on the daily. It’ll eventually recover, though. Just a matter of time
Totally enjoyed this. I just love how you geek out on this. Great tour!!! When you spoke of how for years you thought it was *Scott* Farkus rather than *Skut* Farkus, and you felt like a moron when you found out the truth, don't feel alone!!! I first watched this movie in 1989, and didn't know it was "Skut" until just this year😥. I was about 8 years old when this movie came out, and was super excited that Billingsley was the star. Had no idea what his competition was when auditioning until I watched your video, but it seems to me, Peter had a certain innocent "every American boy" look back then that lent well to the part. Add to that the fact that he's such a natural actor, and his personality at the time gave off a certain innocence. I think he was the perfect fit to play Ralphie. Can't imagine Wheaton or any of the other kids doing this one. Jack Nicholson probably would have played the part of the old man exceptionally, but Gavin was spot-on perfect. His looks, his energy - everything about him looked the part. They really pulled off the perfect bit of casting with this one. I'm a time and space kinda guy, so I get really excited visiting the spaces used for filming. I enjoyed this a lot. Thanks for posting! 🙂
It's almost 2025 and people are still getting covid. And now with the "Bird Flu" going around, the news in the U.S. is threatening another pandemic. Yeesh.
The movie takes place in December 1940. Proof is the Little Orphan Annie decoder ring came out in 1940.
The movie is supposed to take place in 1939. However, the cop car that pulls up when Flick has his tongue stuck to the pole is a 1946 Ford. Not to mention, the black girl in the class in the same scene when schools weren't integrated until 1963. Also, the radio was a 1940 Canadian Westinghouse.
I thought the movies was supposed to be 1946. Why? Because the old man is reading a newspaper and clearly you can see a picture of the USS Indiana BB 58. She was commissioned in 1942. During the war they didn’t print pictures of warships. Of course I could be wrong.
Loved this statue
What an amazing tour you've given us of this hidden gem! Thank you so much for sharing, I would never have seen it! And thank you for your attention to details throughout, what a stunner of a place and a stunning beauty that Marta was!❤
Thank you so much for watching! Marta was a true artistic gem of a human. ❤️
