#bushcraft #canoetrip We are fortunate to have close access to beautiful lakes and the sea. This day, it was time to take the canoe for a nice trip around the lake, looking for some new, interesting spots. I found a nice place to make dinner. The weather forecast was quite good that day, but nature had other plans. I did not bring a tarp with me, but basic preparation was enough to keep me dry ...

Are Mora Knives as Bad as Surströmming? We Tried Them Both!
What do you think about the Joker Nomad 6.5 in comparison with the Bravo 1.5 ???
Bra video! Vart beställde ni den ifrån?
Tusen tack!😄 Tror att Kjetil har beställt den från amazon 👍
It's real leather so i guess you can use it as a strop, better than using your belt cause it has this big surface right?
Interesting thinking! That could absolutely work, specially when it is quite new. After using them for a while we have holes in them and also not that straight anymore because we let the fire burn on it for a short while when fire making. The heat changes the shape a bit. Going to give it a test soon😄👍
I’ll take the workhorse too. The Helle is more the bushcraft. Absolute good knife but if I had to choose one my Fallkniven goes with me and my helle stays home
The strap is to stop the jacket riding up when climbing
Haha good point, would not have thought about that. Thanks for the comment!
I need the fjalraven jacket! anyone know which version they are wearing?
The Fjällräven anorak no. 8. Dark olive anorak is size M and Dark Grey is size XL😉👍
anyone know if there is a difference between the black blade and this one? also...what version of fjlaraven jacket is this?
Anorak no.8👍
The knife looks great, but them lamb chops look even better 😁😁😁 Thanx for the video my Bladed Brothers 👍⚔✝🇺🇸
Haha well observed😋👌. Thanks for watching and reaching out! Cheers!🍻
Buying a blade blank of one of these and attaching it to a big ol' elk antler with crown. My Scandinavian version of a bowie knife.
The best Bushcraft backpack for me is Kajka , I have 35, 55, 85L , awesome piece of gear. For hiking I use Keb 52, 72L ❤❤❤
Have the A1X in COS and the U2 in Elmax. Next will be the F1 or F1X in Elmax as soon as I can find a deal. Love these knives!
That will fit nicely with your other knives😁👍! They are super nice!
I love mine even though it was supposed to be micarta not walnut but it's still a tank regardless of the handle scales
Haha a tank is the right word 😂😁👍
@@westcoastbushcrafters try the off-grid knives I have the alpha dog and trackerx they're sharpened pry bars
Estwing all the way
Had to look up that one. Saw one with a nice leather handle. Cool!
I have an A1 Pro, S1 Pro and EmblA. All have Lam COS. The Embla is essentially an F1 Pro, but it has desert ironwood instead of thermorun handle. Also had a TK6 and gave it to a friend for deer dressing. That Frej is closest to my S1 Pro. It's about the most perfect size and width for survival bushcrafting
Really like the S1 pro. The thing I like a lot with the Frej is that it works very well as a slicer. Like with outdoor cooking this is a nice knife to bring. You have an awesome collection Fällkniven knives😁👍.
I tend to use my forest axe for a lot of work that you use your knives for. I use my very reliable ESSE RB3 for feather sticks and fine work. The Helle Nord has me tempted though
If the temptation reaches a high and makes you order the Nord, please have a look at the 4 mm version in Sleipner and maybe the Nordlys is also interesting. We have not tested an Esse knife yet but the RB3 looks like a great knife.
It's looking good, but i think fallkniven a1 pro is more than this one
A1 pro is a beast of a knife😁
Great video! If the nomad can do that, I can only imagine what the 6.5" can do?!!👍🏻
Thank you!😄👍 Yeah that must be a real batonning , chopping beast in the field.
What do you wear underneath? Will it fit the Vardag pile jacket? :-)
I would say so! I buy all of my clothes in size L and this olive green anorak is in size M. Last time I had a Devold base layer, 2 other baselayers and a thick devold wool sweater underneath it. That is not too tight when wearing this anorak over it. Quite spacey. Hope that helps👍
I'm not a fan of the Garberg. The lack of a finger-guard on a hard-use knife is a bad design choice. A slip can happen so easily out in the wild (cold hands, sleep deprivation), its simply not worth the risk. So, I love Mora, but not the Garberg.
You have a point there. If that risk is identified better go for a safer option. What knife/ knives do you prefer when being out in the wild?
Nice review, thank you. I am going to get one for one-nighters with my bivvy bag. Are huts like that there for anyone to use in your country? We only have them in Scotland. England is not really as accommodating for bushcrafters in the wild but we love it still.
Thanks for watching! Sounds like some nice upcoming adventures with bivvy bag😄👍. Yeah we are fortunate that there are quite a lot of those places spread out over the country. Most of them located on some hiking trails or nature parks. Hope the back pack works out well for you! A while back I bought the singi 48. Gives a bit more volume. We made a video about that not so long ago 👍
What is the West Coast Bushcrafters favorite company if you had to pick only one company to buy knives from. I would appreciate your opinions considering how much you guys use different knives. I personally own 10 Bark River Knives and would recommend them to anyone whether bush crafting, chopping, kitchen use or fightng. Incredible company. Thanks for your videos fellas, really enjoy them.
Thanks for the hard question haha :-) Really happy that we don't have that problem. We really like the LT Wright knives (even if we only have 3 of them in our knife collection) and that feels like a safe choice. We go for that. Bark River Knives would also be a choice (diversity & great quality) but this simplicity and quality of LT Wright Knives is just awesome. Another knife company that could have been a candidate in a better world would be Beaverknife. Unfortunately they did not deliver 3 knives we bought last time (and that is 3 years ago now).
Du är rolig 😂😂😂 ”la baguette française » thank you for this Review
haha tack så mycket! :-)
Thank you for the review folks, based on it I purchased the Anorak 8. I noticed that the dark gray looks urban-enough so what I tested out is to use it for street photography. The front pocket is big enough to fit a mirror-less camera with medium size lens. Which enables me to just walk around, no backpack or camera bag, no cross-body camera strap, not worried about pickpocketing and not attracting attention. This is primarly my outdoor anorak for walks in the nature, but discovered also this additional use-case where the Anorak 8 works surprisingly well so thought I'd share.
Hi! Thanks for sharing your multifunctional use of the anorak! That’s great😄👍! Hope it will serve you well for many years to come.
THIS is how you do a knife comparison/review. Two different people, different hand size/shape, technique, etc, taking turns to perform the same tasks. Very nicely done and I appreciate the thoughtful analyses.
Thank you very much! That is a nice compliment!
I have a Finnish knife like this that I like very much and another that I use for the same purpose is a hmong knife which also does a fine job on wood
Thanks for pointing out those Hmong knives. Just looked at some on the internet. Cpm 3v (vikings. com) 😅👍. New to us. Cool stuff! Thanks!
Great vid
Thank you!😄
What a great channel, love it. Hälsa fran Skåne. 👍
Tack så mycket! Hoppas du hittar några roliga avsnitt att titta på 😄👍
I've know idea if you know this. But Green River Knives, came out in about 1832 or 1836. I've found two dates for when they where first made. They put the Kephart knife in its place. Seems if you tag a knife a Kephart, its goes up in price to the point where I cant afford one. So big deal. I have four Green River knives. Bought them back in the late 1970's early 1980's. And they are still going strong. But then again, I only use them for knife type jobs. So no chopping or splitting wood.
Didn’t know that. Had to look up Green River Knives. Impressive with the long history of knife making and awesome to hear you purchased them is the 70’s - 80’s. Most likely I never had to hold a full tang knife those days😅. It is great that the legacy of Horace Kephart is keeping strong. And yes that is being used in marketing. Cool to hear you were there before this. Lovely to hear the knives are still going strong. Hope you and your knives continue with that💪. Thanks for your comment!
@@westcoastbushcrafters My first Green River knife was a kit, that I had to build, and I still have it and use it. Its a great kitchen knife. Also, not sure any one else mentioned this, but the Kephart knife, does resemble the Green River Dadley knife. You should look that up. I have acquired a Kephart blade blank from Condor tool and knife, and I am in the process of putting handle scales on it, but it really is not that impressive. But I guess it will make a nice kitchen knife. Take care and stay sharp.
@longrider42 can imagine starting with a kit that it brings some soul into the knife directly. Great stuff. Going to dive a bit deeper into this. Thanks for pointing out. Good luck with the condor knife, good health and stay sharp 😄👍
Lovely knife. I have the Joker "Erizo". Another good knife.
Thanks! Nice! That knife is not the most common knife design knife. Looks like a great handle grip and good control with the short blade. Do you use it for hunting? Just curious interest. Cheers!
@@westcoastbushcrafters Recently got back from Joshua Tree. Used my "Erizo" to do camp-stuff... cut rope, split small pieces of wood to help start fire, even some cooking. I have bigger knifes, but I never really need them.
Best review on this knife on YT. I bought two of them (one scandi, the other sabre). They are just SO GOOD.
Thanks a lot! Haha cool you have both of them! Guess we will purchase the scandi version one day as well😁👍
Thank you great show
Thank you! 😄
My new channel
Welcome! Hope you will enjoy our episodes
I must say, this is a very nice and fair review and comparison. I did get the Helle Nord Sleipner, but for me as another gentleman on UA-cam pointed out to me, it will be more of an heirloom than workhorse, though I will likely build some character with it, and it may develop further. Cheers.
Thank you! Truly a great piece of equipment to pass on to next generations😄. Cheers🍻
Sadly I look at this video, of a pack I own and love, and see someone who has likely never used the pack for its actual purpose.
Please explain, thanks.
@westcoastbushcrafters the pack is designed for long distance trekking, and hunting expeditions. When you do such things hydration is vital and so your hydration sources need to be readily accessible, without having to not only go "inside" the pack but not requiring you to remove other kit to get at the bottles. With this pack one could use a water bladder like a CamelBak. The pack also have all of those pockets and pouches one can add to the outside. Instead I see someone putting their water bottles *in* the pack, under gear
Hello fellows would be nice for the 2025 to review also machetes thsnks and Happy 🎉New 😊 Year
Happy New Year too you as well! We can do a review one day about all the bigger knives we own and do somekind of comparison👍
@westcoastbushcrafters thank you... look forward to it
Very nice knife, what name brand of anorak are you both wearing
Thanks! That is the Anorak no.8 from Fjällräven👍
@westcoastbushcrafters cool thank you
Welcome 😁👍
Flat grind.
I bet that Wood DOES feel comfortable in your hand... Europeans... 🤦🏻♂️
Maybe we gave a bad explanation. English is not our first language.
Fantastic knife I have an LTW ILLUMINOUS 5
One of the best😁💪
Great review of the knives! You are doing a fantastic job with your channel! I really like what you are doing a lot and it makes me jealous about the gorgeous environment you are living in. Ever had som thoughts about doing some overnighter videos or some skill videos? Ad least I’ve got a question: what pair of brand new Hastra is Kjetil wearing? Keep up the good work! Best greetings from Germany
Hi! Thank you very much for your awesome comment! We appreciate the place we live a lot. Living close to the sea gives a lot of different types of nature. Together with the right to roam this is fantastic. Great to hear your appreciation to that as well. We would love to do more overnighters but not always easy to find the time. Hope we can do it more often. Would be great! Skill videos… put that on the list😁👍 Regarding the gloves: believe it is Hestra work glove 3. Thanks so much! Cheers 🍻
In my collection ive three BPS knives, the BP1 i use often. Why change a perfectly good cheap knife ? A friend had the bushmate and as many, the scales came lose after only moderate use. I never use a knife for anything other than a cutting tool, preferring to carry a small hatchet and folding saw for other tasks. Even so, the original Bp1, almost a year of use, absolutely no problems.
Thanks for sharing your experience! Great to hear that it holds well efter a year of proper usage 😁👍
I’m stuck on buying this or the gen 3??? Help me out on opinions!!!!
We have no experience yet with the gen 3 but we both have the illuminous 5. And we absolutely love that knife!
Ooooo, it's really sharp brutal knife, especially food preparing 🤟🙂💪 it's a very good hunting knife 🐗🫎🦌again a very nice episode in beautiful nature and cooking in a nature is the best 🍀🆒🙂
Thank you so much😁!!
Realy realy nice place, perfect batoning knives🤟😬🍻. Awesome episode! 🍀☝️
Thanks a lot Peter😁🙏👍!
I thought of it as a camping kitchen knife. One you could take to the field to prepare your dinner? I'd like to see that.
Yeah we can give that a try together with some other big knives😁👍
I love this knife, I did do some MODS to it, like others have done I removed the square edge at the end of the blade to enable my hand to get closer to the cutting edge, this made a massive difference when doing more detailed carving tasks, or even feather sticks. Another thing I have to mention is Condor has amazing customer service, in fact I've never had better from any other knife company.
Interesting modification! 😁👍
I have done similar!! To tramontina to make a Hudson bay type. I have small condors!! Old hickory mods etc!! Love carbon for mods!! But at 40 out growing the edge retention lol Took me seriously 5 Years to consider sandvik as SPIRITUAL enough to buy!!
I wasn't convinced by these knives when they first come out, maybe the price put me off, I picked one up really cheap a couple of years ago and I instantly loved it, it felt great in the hand, after some stropping it was razor sharp, I love this knife it's been my main belt knife since I got it, its all the knife you need, I don't mind saying I was wrong, I would have not been disappointed if I paid full price.
Fits the hand very well isn’t it? Thanks for sharing your experience!
I've had this knife for 6-7 years, an absolutely fantastic knife, i have the scandi carbon version with big oak scales. It has to be the most comfortable knife to use. The Forrest knife is definitely a perfect description.
That is great to hear! They have done a great job on the design. Thanks for your comment!
That one has been on my shopping list for s loooong time.. will get it eventually😀 Thanx for the review!
Haha nice! It is a beast and it works well. Joker is doing a good job. Cheers!
Thnx. Hello from Ukraine, guys!
