Hi! This video shows the process involved in modeling and fabricating a scissor lift for my rotary sander. I designed this scissor lift to move both vertically and laterally to allow the sander to be stored under my table saw's output table when not in use and to be raised up even with the table surface when needed. I also modified the existing table to make the section above the sander removable and with spring latches to hold it in place.
This was my first try at using joints in Fusion 360. I wanted to make sure that the parts would not interfere with each other when the lift is retracted. Joints made it easy to confirm clearances through the entire range of motion.
My lessons learned from this project include (1) sometimes resistance and friction can be useful, as a bit more friction in the design would have helped stability when locked into position and (2) joints in Fusion 360 aren't nearly as difficult to use as I originally thought they would be.
