  • Hi! This video shows the process involved in modeling and fabricating a scissor lift for my rotary sander. I designed this scissor lift to move both vertically and laterally to allow the sander to be stored under my table saw's output table when not in use and to be raised up even with the table surface when needed. I also modified the existing table to make the section above the sander removable and with spring latches to hold it in place.
This was my first try at using joints in Fusion 360. I wanted to make sure that the parts would not interfere with each other when the lift is retracted. Joints made it easy to confirm clearances through the entire range of motion.
My lessons learned from this project include (1) sometimes resistance and friction can be useful, as a bit more friction in the design would have helped stability when locked into position and (2) joints in Fusion 360 aren't nearly as difficult to use as I originally thought they would be.
I hope you enjoy the video!

Thanks! I ordered some rare earth magnets and assorted springs to brainstorm designs for the latching mechanism I'm going to add.

Awesome build! Enjoyed your engineering and thought process behind the mechanical design. I was curious where did you got that tape measure you had on the y axis of your avid rail dust cover. I would be interested in installing this on my avid lol

Thanks! The tape measure is the Kreg self adhesive tape and they have either left to right reading or right to left depending on how and where you plan to place it. I think I got mine from Rockler but it looks like they also sell them on Amazon: Kreg KMS7724 12' Self-Adhesive Measuring Tape (Left-Right Reading) a.co/fuTcgDw
