Super Tigre G24 running on sparks
Running a rare 1953 Super Tigre G24 10cc speed engine on spark ignition.
Only running it fairly gently - it's too rare to risk anything.

1937 Ohlsson Miniature
Переглядів 10 тис.9 років тому
This 1937 Ohlsson Miniature is the first Ohlsson produced commercially. This one came from an estate sale in the UK, and looked to be just about perfect. It obviously hadn't been touched for decades but, after a clean, it runs really well, and very easily. The subtitles are a mixture of English & French, so you get a free language lesson as well.

These were good ole engines.... 👌
They still are!
Little hotter plug maybe?
I've never had a diesel, but I have a large collection of glow engines... They each have their own personalities, and once you get to know the individuals, they'll run quite nicely for you.
This isn't a diesel! But what you say is generally true of all engines, providing you have a good engine to start with.
Great run... 👌
Thank you.
I have this engine, too. Reckon I'll unwrap it and get it going again, just for the nostalgia! Thanks for the inspiration! John Beck in beautiful Cape Town, South Africa.
Thanks for your interest. They are superb engines. I have friends near you, in Port Alfred. Regards, BC
BRAVO❗️
Thank you.
Ateşleyici olmadan nasıl çalışıyor buji olmadan 🤔🤔🤔 bilgilendirirmisiniz??
Model diesel engines use fuel containing ether, which ignites by the heat generated by compression. These are "compression ignition engines". There are many model diesel videos on YT.
Bilgilendirdiğiniz için teşekkür ederim efendim Türkiye den selamlar🇹🇷🤝🇺🇸@@briancox3691
I found one of these at a outdoor market and its so cool to see people giving these old engines another chance
That’s was excellent! Thanks for taking the time to make this video!!!
Excellent review, Would it be damaging to over prop this engine?
Your question is a bit vague and this is only my opinion. Obviously any engine can be damaged by overpropping and then forcing the engine to run on an excessive load. Underpropping or overpropping are not really a problem providing you just let the engine burble along gently. The problems occur when you try to extract performance, which will either give excessive rpm or excessive loads. In any case, this particular engine is perfectly happy on any prop between about 7x4 and 10x4. I normally use a 9x4 to fly vintage RC. Finally, why would anyone want to overprop or underprop an engine?
I built and flew mine in late 1959 with single channel radio very success !!
I'm getting a bit old, but I still have a couple of J60 kits. I'd better get on with it!
What would happen if you used a vented disk rather than a propeller for a flywheel?
Sorry, I can't think of a polite answer.
What do you use to clean up fuel on the stand, tools, etc? Solvent? Soap?
First of all, I don't clean the stand often enough. But when I do, acetone is by far the best substance. The secret would be to clean thoroughly immediately after each running session, and I've been intending to do that for the last 50 years... but...
I just won a PAW .60 from Flea-Bay, the only problem so far is that when warmed up, there is some combustion gas leakage from around the compression screw (I have NO real history on this engine and assumed it was well used and going to need some tlc). But it does run pretty well, all things considered . I think it might need a new contra-piston...
A bit of residue coming out around the compression screw isn't a serious problem and you can leave it like that, unless the contra-piston is really loose. In other words, if the comp. screw backs off while running, then the contra-piston needs attention. But if the compression setting stays as set, then I wouldn't bother about it.
@briancox3691 It seems to hold its setting and seems to run well, I just never saw that before. Thanks!
@@asrcav8r Thanks. Good. If it's holding its setting then there's no real problem.
Love the adjustble-compression engine. More on that, please?
Thanks. You mean a model diesel engine. My YT channel is full of diesel running videos, have a look.
IMHO you have made a perfectly good old model plane engine even better !
Thank you, but I certainly didn't make it any better. It's just a superb old engine (71 y.o.) that needs to be properly run
Good to see you again, Brian. Nice combinaisons, btw. Missing France somewhat 🍷
Thanks John.
Great demonstration.
Thank you.
Great to see, i must start doing ny collection, i just love old model 2 and 4 strokes, duesels, glow and petrol. Keep up the good work Brian!
Thank you!
You seem to know how to start any of these small engines Brian you make it look so easy real knowledge 💪😃👍
Thank you. It's partly one of the doubtful advantages of being old and partly the fact that it really is easy.
Surreal, yet beautiful. As always, You are an asset to the cro.. I mean the community.
Yes very good use of GARDEN , NICE ENGINE GREAT TOO SEE IT RUNNING ❤
I read thru the comments and found no mention that that carberetor is off a GLOW engine which is app 25% castor oil and 75% Methanal which usualy runs MUCH richer than gasoline as the carb. appears to be off about a .40 C.I , THE HIGH SPEED NEEDLE WOULD BE OK BUT THE SLOW SPEED ( idle setting would be WAY rich ) so try leaning out the idle needl, I think that carb. has a air bleed idle system, ( take the idle needle completly out and if the tip is blunt, it is an air bleed system, so to lean it you screw it OUT more ( to get the engine to two/cycle at an idle maybe as that carb was deseigned for glow fuel you may have to remove the idle needle COMPLEATLY ( I bought a 1948 O+R 60 brand new in 1963, that was on sale at a hobby shop in Arcadia that was going out of bisness, I still have it missing the fuel bowl compleat with 14/ 6 wooden prop.!!
Hi Earl, Thanks for your interest and your comments, but everything you suggest assumes that I'm not satisfied with the way it throttles in the video, and that's not true. I think it throttles very well and I'm certainly not going to start messing with it! Regards, BC
@@briancox3691 guess im going to have to try that with my own O+R engine as I have the exact same one as you do and I also happen to have a worn out OS40 ( that one of yours sure sounds GREAT!!)
Great run well done,👍👍👍👍👍👍👍👍👍
Thank you.

Thanks for your interest. Sorry I don't understand, so I tried the Google translation and I don't understand that either! Thanks anyway!
@@briancox3691 I am writing to you through the translator, what diameter and length is the piston and cylinder?
@@rubenprovencio-b1u This is a very old English engine, so the original dimensions are in inches! But converted, the bore (diameter) is 12.7 mm and the stroke is 15.875 mm.
Well done, worth the wait.
Runs darn good!
Thank you. Yeah, they're super engines.
where can I buy such an engine, it is beautiful and runs beautifully

And have a look at this video, which I think is better. ua-cam.com/video/fDelpXgHymA/v-deo.htmlsi=LyRD1D0ijiMkn-zi
My early long stroke straight flanked Mills 1.3 is also easy to start. These low revving diesels seem to run forever and are great for free flight turning a large prop.
Yes!
A very annoying video. Why not just let the damned thing run?
Back in the '60s my dad brought me a Taifun Tornado diesel from a trip to Germany. Loud engine !
I don’t think I’ve ever seen a better looking Junior, 60 in my entire life 😄😄 when I build mine, I think I might do the same thing with the microcamera on the hat 👍
Thanks Oliver. This is my fourth J60 and I still have one more kit. I'd better get on with it!
@@briancox3691 oh cool this will be my first. how did you find having just one elevator?
@@oliverbowen17 Fine, so little elevator is needed that I didn't notice any difference. It's only for trimming and keeping the nose up in turns, and there is important weight saving because of eliminating the hefty piano wire joiner.
@@briancox3691 great thanks Brian I was a bit on the edge about doing just one elevator on mine but yours flew amazingly 😄
Nice!!!
Actually this wasn't intended to be posted like that. I wanted to edit and create a "proper" video, but I needed to show an Ohlsson Custom running, for a forum, so I just put a photo image on the front and posted the video as shot. It's not too bad! Thank you!
dude your doing it right.
A few questions please: In order to lubricate the piston as quickly as possible, why did you mount it first on the testbench and then try to get it smooth? Wouldn't it be better for all the mechanics, to take the motor in your hands, flood it with fuel in carburettor AND exhaust for better reaching the piston and conrod? Even to open the back of the crankcase which is easy and then lubricate it would be a fast and save way to lubricate it as quick as possible. I think just to prime it via carburettor and flip it over in upright position its a hard time for the piston to wait until it gets lubricated by way less fuel than it could get if turning the whole engine in your hands? Thank you.
What an incredibly annoying noise! Put a muffler on that relic!
You need to find videos on knitting or goldfish or something like that.
@@briancox3691top reply Mr Brian
Very nice mate she sound great ,so was performance 👍👍👍👍
Thank you! It's a super engine.
I have the same engine, would be nice to build a Junior 60 for it
This engine is the most produced version of all the Racers, and it's also one of the best. All the original company Racers (pre 1970) were great engines. And the plane is very easy to build, but I prefer the later (1955) version.
Dear Brian, I have a 0.25ci Enya RC Carb new in box. Can you give tuning running tips pls.
I'm sorry but I have no knowledge or experience of the Enya .25. I'm certainly not an expert on modern glow engines and I don't want to pretend otherwise! As yours is NIB, you should have some instructions. All my glow flying is done using red Irvines or Lasers, and I just follow the instructions. Good luck!
Great video very interesting , thanks for sharing 🙂
Please, Bore & Stroke in mm. Thanks.
The dimensions are here: sceptreflight.com/Model%20Engine%20Tests/Wildcat%20Mk%20III.html Just multiply the values shown by 25.4.
@@briancox3691 OK! Bore = 17,46mm, Stroke = 22,23mm, = long stroke.
Wow hand on heart mate gees ❤❤❤ near heart attack watching that glad ya got it back
Ou peut on se le procurer et le carburant est il disponible dans le commerce
strange to see someone still using bare hands to start model engines, back in the seventies and eighties my father used to do this starting OS 60 1 horse power glow engines until one day he had one on the bench running in and my Mother called him from the house and as he turned around he lost his left thumb sticking it in the Nylon propellor, he packed it in ice taped up his hand and rode his motorbike the 7 miles to hospital and that was his clutch hand to. after that he bought an electric starter, I never understood why, as he put his thumb into the prop after the engine had been started.
Quite simply, if you have a good engine and you know what you're doing, hand starting is quicker and easier than other methods I did it for the first time in 1950, and 73 years later I still have all my fingers. I think you can look at any of my videos and you won't see any "finger biting", etc.
Wonderful seeing and hearing that distinctive crackle. I have a Mk 2 Tiger made in 1953 SN ATB330 that hasn't run for 40 years years. I would like to get in touch with someone that would appreciate restoring it. It is rather gummed up and would need a thorough overhaul to get it running again. Phil Jackson Tynemouth
Great start up and run there Brian 🤙 must ask if ya have 1 of those for sale out ya hanger must talk love that crackle can't bet it 🤙
Lovely. I still have one but it refuses to start. Probably my fault. I will have to try it again. What size prop did you use?
Hi, The prop in this video is an old plastic 7x4, which is normal for this engine but, if you're having problems starting, an 8x4 might be slightly easier to start. There are still some nice people around. I've just been given a new green head Merlin by a gentleman in Norway, who liked my videos. His mother bought him the engine 45 years ago, and he was never able to start it. I ran it a few days ago, and it's just like the one in this video, i.e. excellent. Thanks for your interest, BC
Diesels throttle better when hot presumably it keeps the ignition advanced. The PAW throttle works well although it's a pity they have the needle valve in the barrel and not separate.
I think all engines throttle better when they're hot. The small PAWs throttle better than any other small engines, glow or diesel and, personally, I'm very happy with their throttle the way it is.
Beautiful Crafted Engines and Easy to start, run and maintain 🇬🇧👍
