As a Queenslander who is about to move to Perth, I've been really hooked on the Perth music scene and I'm very hyped to go out to watch more live shows when I'm over there 🙌
As a South African I am very jealous of the Aussie music scene in general - but interesting analysis of the factors influencing the prolific western scene - thanks for sharing
I just moved back to Perth after living in Sydney for three years, one variable that I've noticed is the impact of the cost of living post-covid. Perth isn't cheap, but Sydney is so unlivable nobody interesting can afford to come out at night anymore, it's almost entirely the equivalent of the Claremont demographic, it's never a reason on its own to go to a gig but the potential to meet new and interesting people is a whole domain of the experience that I enjoy.
It's funny you say this, I often think about how many good bands there are overseas that we simply don't get exposed to. I saw a English band called Declan Mackenna a week ago and they are for sure one of the best live bands I've seen. It call comes down to where you are from, we are very bias in that regard, I look at Australian music and think we have an incredible scene (which is partially true) but unless I actively checkout other bands from around the world, we are only scratching the surface.
I might be misinterpreting what you mean, but pretty much all of the artists I speak about in this video built large local followings without triple j. Jjj jumped on afterwards. So I wouldn't call this music triple j garbage, as triple j essentially just follows the trends now and doesn't set many of their own. They just piggy backed on these bands after their streaming games took off. I'd be interested to hear some of your recommendations of local artists making a buzz who you think are exciting musically? Always want to find more up and comers.
Almost everything promoted by Triple J is also heavily produced by them to be the 'next big thing' and increase the profits coming in. It's the same thing that happens with the American Top 40 shit. Producers find attractive people who can pass as being talented, write catchy music for them and promote it heavily until they're famous and reeling in the cash. Look at the Kid Laroi, promoted until it's massive. It's kind of like forcing a meme, but they're succeeding. That's why all the music is so fucking generic, because it's all coming from the same place. I am unsure why most people have made this connection yet.
There’s a band in Perth called Paint who just put out their new EP called “Gift Shop”. Recommend giving that a whirl for sure
Nice work 🤘🔥
Humble Armada need WAY more recognition, their music is incredible. Nice to see them get a shout-out 🙌

Aussies have 100% taken the crown of rock n roll away from the US and UK in the past decade
You think so? I think the UK indie scene is pretty hard to beat.
Hey, I'm Perth based now! Looking for potential new bands to wiggle into now.....would love to touch base if we can! cheers :)

Triple J garbage, none of them are actually doing anything exciting musically.

@@solitudeausmusic most of the artists making a buzz locally are copy paste indie bands. Check out Paint, Spacerhead, Ghoulies and Pleasants.
I agree, just super generic boring washed out indie rock. There are some good songs here and there but mostly all of these bands sound the same
@@joelsimmers2767 yeah there’s an abundance of the sunsets and mates bands. Golden triangle kids making music
