Using My Strengths, to Battle My Weakness! Close and Clean Racing at Zolder! [LFM]

Zolder is just up the road from where I live. But truth be told, I am yet to visit. So I was very keen to get into a couple of 45 min races on LFM this week, to give me a good sense of what the track is like. And I was not disappointed! Close and clean racing was on the menu this week, and I really enjoyed it. But I may have used the wrong car, and the result was some very focused driving was r...
This Kiwi Takes On Bathurst for the First Time in LFM! Home Track Advantage?

It is safe to say that as a New Zealand motorsport fan, I have a love affair with Bathurst! With over two decades of watching races like the Bathurst 1000 under my belt, I had a pretty good idea of what was needed for getting around the mountain. But I was about to take try and replicate all that in the Sim for the first time in LFM races. So with my kiwi pride on the line, I dived into tacklin...

      Thank you so much! My unlock at Imola was getting very comfortable with the car going over the kerbs. You more or less go completely over 80% of the kerbs on the track, particularly turns 1(thumbnail image for reference) ,2 5,6 and the chicane. I found a tremendous amount of time in those corners once I got the line right. Also crashed a lot there trying to learn it haha, so its a bit of process.

      Oh thank you so much! That gives me so much motivation to keep making these videos. Yea I learning every time I'm in the rig, and its fun to see it come together on track. The gains are getting harder to find though haha. The best thing you can do for cockpit view is find a good FOV (field of view) calculator. This will make the view as real as possible and then train your brain to learn where the corners of the car are in the view. Its trickier if you are on a standard monitor as the vision is narrow (as you see it in my videos), but on a wide or triple monitor set up you will still see all the front of the car on screen. But from an immersion perspective I would totally recommend using the in car view!

      49" Neo for me. The 57 is awesome, but its basically 2x the resolution and would a massive strain on the graphics card to run it. Decided it was more beneficial for me to go with the 49". And honestly it still looks amazing being run on Epic settings.

    Fantastic lap, my best is a 1:44.855, not one of my favourites, until recently I hadn’t driven there much. Actually beginning to enjoy it and get a bit quicker at the same time. Fantastic racing dude! I love racing at Zolder, especially in the bimmer. Do you raise the front ride height a little bit to be able to comfortably take more of the chicane kerbs?

    • @BradleySettersMotorsport
      @BradleySettersMotorsport 6 днів тому

      Thanks mate! Yea Zolder is a lot of fun. I think the set up had a little extra ride height. I certainly still have some more time to find at the chicane. Was trying to not take too much risk there, and just focus on good clean exit. Sort of looking forward to the next time LFM brings Zolder up!

    honestly bonnet camera never worked for me :) i tried to get pitstops right with it but never succeeded, for me it was easier to memorize where my bonnet should be in relation to the marks on the lollipop sign :)

      I think the bonnet cam is helping. Only used it a few times now, but it does help when you have to go through a car just before the box. Will try it for a few more weeks at least.

    • @KlerikerNero
      @KlerikerNero 7 днів тому

      @@laplimitpush not at all. A racing incident is if both people are responsible for the incident. That is not the case here, since Bradley braked at his normal bp and the other guy either missed his bp by accident or just didn't care. In both scenarios it is the MCLarens fault.

    • @laplimitpush
      @laplimitpush 6 днів тому

      @@KlerikerNero hmm yeah report away however I'm under the view point that this incident was natural consequence, It would still be classified as a racing incident with no penalties applied regardless who was at fault.

      @BradleySettersMotorsport 6 днів тому

      Yea I checked the replay. He just over committed to the chicane and didn't take me into consideration. Its a shame, as he knew full well I was on a lap as well. But it wasn't an intentional contact, just a difference in line for the corner and some over driving from his side I feel.

    Pitstops are all about risk vs reward: if you push hard during your pitstop you risking getting DT or missing the box the reward are only a few tenth. So I am leaving a big margin when entering pits and when I arrive at my box. Maybe I lose a couple of tenth but I am not risking losing multiple seconds. the risk is not worth the reward.

    • @BradleySettersMotorsport
      @BradleySettersMotorsport 6 днів тому

      Yes at pit entry I always try leave margin. Need to avoid that drive through at all costs! I think the box stop is something I can nail with the overlay I have. Just needs more practice.

      @@BradleySettersMotorsport You could also try to really nail it and 100% brake when the pit overlay says you are 10m away from pitbox. It's riskier, but if you nail it it's the faster way to do a pitstop. If the pitlane is bumpy, then I wouldn't recommend because the distance to fully brake might differ.

      I'm still convinced that the older cars are just too far off the pace if you want to get into competitive racing. I have seen only one rookie class race where someone used an older gen car. A real shame though, as those older cars are still great. The BMW M6 use to be my favourite GT3 car.

    Hi, I have noticed that you are using an overlay for telemetry. I struggle with what to choose between Armamento and SimHub. Both gives few great parameters without paying. I don’t need full version of them. What are your thoughts? Thx!

    • @BradleySettersMotorsport
      @BradleySettersMotorsport 14 днів тому

      Hi! Yea overlays can be very helpful. I think the main focus would be to work out what main extra data you want and then see who does that the best. I often see people using elements from two or three apps at the same time. I recently did a video on my overlays and how I use the features. Full disclosure that ACC Drive is a paid app and they are now a supporter of my channel. But it might give you some ideas on how the data could be useful to you in a race, and then base your decision on that value. I hope that helps in some way 😊
