    We enjoyed coming along for the hike, Chris. I'm always amazed by these landscapes with no trees and the ability to see so far. Lovely hills too. Great job at arriving at another trip point! It's hard to keep it up, I'm sure. I wouldn't dream of these long hikes. Thanks so much for bringing us along.

    Hey Chris! Thanks for taking us along your hike and new trig! Completely agree about what you mentioned about getting out and about doing you good!! Stunning landscape and you were joined by those sheep hehe, they looked curious! Awesome to see Dowstone Clough it looks like a really nice hike to be fair! Hehe you're right, good ole UK raining, that bog looked sketchy! But you did a great job heh. Glad to see you back and out and about doing what you enjoy, always enjoy your videos Chris, keep being you!

    What a fantastic hike, Chris! 🌄 The landscapes are breathtaking, and I love how you captured the misty atmosphere. That old pack horse route or Roman road sounds intriguing! @GENerationXplorers next month (June), I'm hiking 80km to commemorate the 80th Anniversary of the D-Day Landings. The combined total for the length of all the beaches is 80km. That's a 10-mile hike each week for June. I was thinking of hiking the Dambusters Hike, but that is 22 miles. It would kill me like the Edale Skyline did. Who knows, I might just try it.

    The scenery is so... British 😅😊 those stone walls, are they as old as I think they are or of newer date?
    Why do a short hile when you can spend a day hiking around it all? 😅🙈 Even though it seems rather flat, it most definitely is not.
    So, so different vegetation and scenery from over here 🤯 looks like you're so far up in the mountains as there's almost no trees in sight 🤔
    Splendid hike nonetheless! 😁😁

    • @chrisbentleywalkingandrambling
      @chrisbentleywalkingandrambling  8 місяців тому +2

      1,670 feet of elevation gain. The ups really don't show up well on the video. The stone walls have been in place for 100s of years when the field system was introduced to stop the peasants from grazing their livestock. The peat bog is very dodgy and you can sink quite quickly. As for the longer hike, it takes me a 3 hour round trip to the mountains so it has to be worth it. It was about a 5hr hike. I'm still aching now. Thank you for your continued support Martin. I really do appreciate it.

    That was lovely, Chris - the Peak District is so special.
    As to the track…it looked like it could well be a Holloway. One way to dig deeper is to go onto The National Scottish Library and look back through the old OS maps. You’ll be able to get back to the early 1800s.
    This will show you if the route is at least that old, but they may reveal info that has now dropped off the maps too.
    Going on the visual evidence here, I’d say at least 500 years old. The real excitement is determining if it’s pre-Roman, though!
    Welcome back, Chris!

    Hi Chris 👋 I really like those old stone walls, they add a mysterious look to the trail. There really ate some great views on this hike. It's too bad about the rain. Rain is not my favorite while on a hike 😅 it seems you had the area to yourself and it seemed peaceful, I really like the sounds of those birds, very different from ones I am used too. Interesting find on the old ruin there. I like those markers too. Great adventure!

    • @chrisbentleywalkingandrambling
      @chrisbentleywalkingandrambling  8 місяців тому +2

      The Trig Points were erected from 1930 onwards as a way of accurately mapping the UK. From any one Trig, you can see two others. After the advent of the space race, these Pillars became redundant. There are 88 left in this National Park, and I'm trying to visit each one. The walls were built to stop peasants from grazing their stock and gave rise to the field system. These stone walls are all over the UK. The rain kept it cooler, but I would have preferred a warmer hike. Thank you so much for your continued support. I really do appreciate it.
