- Let's build Bucket Mouse's Gameboy Pocket Color! I have been so excited to finally work on this mod and it's hands down my favorite result so far. I wanted to share my process with you along with things I learned along the way. This is absolutely no substitute for Bucket Mouse's instructions, but I hope it provides a bit of a supplement and gives you the confidence to work on your own. Whether that be today, tomorrow, or next year. Don't forget - anyone can learn to solder!

It's soooooo satisfying
Granted I'm *slightly* larger than I was when the gameboy pocket and color were constant pocket companions, but that extra little bit of backside and weight to the GBC really make a difference in pocketability.
Especially in jeans.

Something I recently pull the trigger on and I am so glad I did was a basic electric solder sucker. Works just like the one you were using but the soldering iron is built into it. It removes that trying to angle everything and go fast. It really makes a huge difference. I think I paid only like 40 bucks for it on amazon.

I love your video! I've been buying broken Gameboys and I'm a noob at refurbing and just picked up my soldering iron for the first time yesterday. This video was fantastic and I'm getting really excited about repairing, and now I kinda want to build one myself!!

I stumbled upon your channel and find your videos really interesting, I never had a handheld console in my childhood but I've been looking to get some (I currently only own a switch) gameboy, psp or dsi.
I'm happy you're here! I had a couple of handhelds but not many games or home consoles. I'm making up for it now haha. The Switch really captures a lot of the same magic though~
I just picked up the Digital Versions of Mischief Castle and Sam's Journey for NES. Now just waiting on Piopow.

Thank you for watching! The boxypixel isn't a true MGBC, it's just a pocket-style shell that you can put your GBC board in with some minor part removal. It's also actually bigger than a pocket and game carts don't sit flush. It's a giant compromise if you're thinking of it as an MGBC alternative, so it makes more sense to just see it as a variation of a GBC shell.
@yourcoolunclemarisa True true, I should have said variation instead of version, and I do wish it was flush. See this is why you're the cool uncle, always dropping the real wisdom and facts on us.
A bit daunting, but fascinating to watch! Did you print your sticker in-house or have it printed elsewhere? Designing custom labels is more my speed. I love yours!

Hey, can anyone help me? I was looking for the start/select silicone button in different colors for the pocket, but I can only find it for the GBC. Does anyone happen to know if it fits in a GBP shell? This build is amazing, btw 😀

Actually if you see this, do you have any recommendations for both that little hot plate you have and a hot air gun? It'd be nice to try a hot plate to remove the CPU and RAM from an otherwise busted GBA I have...
It's the miniware hotplate! It's good for working on handhelds and is pretty standard fare amongst modders. My hot air station is the YIHUA 959D which I think is one of multiple Chinese clones running around, so as long as there are good reviews it should be alright. I also recommend grabbing some angled tips for the hot air station as it helps you see what you're doing better. Good luck!!
