Baofeng K5 Plus - Shortcomings
Переглядів 106День тому
Some of the shortcomings of the Baofeng K5 Plus 10 watt tri-band radio. This includes bad build features of the screen alignment, bent antenna base and flimsy PTT buttons. The biggest drawback of this radio is not being able to display the channel name and frequency at the same time, whereas some of the cheaper Baofengs will.

BAKFlip F1 Tonneau Cover - I do not recommend and here’s why
Well that explains it. I've had mine for 10 years. My son has to hop in the back to open the last panel because it's so heavy. I did think to myself, I just don't remember the struggle way back when. Now I'm looking for a new cover for my new truck.
@@josephrickard7973 that’s exactly what happened to me with both the original and the replacement. It’s very gradual so you don’t notice it at first. I also have to get into the back of the truck now to open the last panel (I have 4 with my 6.5’ bed). Best of luck with your new truck. I’m still a year or two away. Not sure which brand I will go with when the time comes. Thanks for watching and commenting.
It's January 2025 and i found one exactly like yours but 2018 with 30,000 mi on it but many areas blistering. Aside from that the Jeep is awesome, what should I do ?
@@googlreviews7813 since it’s a 2018, the 5 year paint warranty has expired, so a $15k repair/repaint will be on your own dime. Even then the issue will probably come back. Unless they are practically giving it away, I would run away as fast as you can. My advice would be to look at a different brand of vehicle all together. Personally we will never be buying another Jeep or Stellantis product again.
I bought a DB-20 to build a small grand and go kit...perfect size. I do have a Midland MXT575 in my truck, but I purchased that before I knew about the shortcomings with Midland radios. I do like the fact that the Midland handset has a screen, which allows me to keep the radio permanently mounted and hidden. But if Wouxon or someone comes out with a screen on the handset, I'll be switching right away.
Great engine choice!
That plow you bought from honda. Is there a mounting plate you have to install for it or since its the factory blade for it is there already mounts already installed for thier plow? Looking at getting one for my 520 for next snow season.
@@brandonarthurs6568 the plow, push tube and mount are made by Warn (Provantage), for Honda. You can by the undermount, push tube and plow from either Honda or Warn. You will also need a winch. Neither of the 3 are included with the 520. The part numbers are included in the description.
Nice work I like it looks nice and clean👍👍
Great help, danke 👍🏻

Hi, just ordered this radio. I should have it in about a week. This video will be so instrumental in helping me. You have no idea. Thank you so much for your time and effort. This is awesome. I do have a question. How do you power the radio in your home? I know it runs off a cigarette lighter in your vehicle, but what about if you want to use it for a desktop in your home? How would you power that radio any help would be appreciatedthank you.
@@frankgeis6064 thanks for the kind words. Glad I could help and congrats on the new purchase. I use an old Radio Shack 25A Switching Power Supply that I used to charge my RC racing car batteries with. Most power supplies just have the two output terminals on them, so what I did was get a cigarette lighter plug extension and cut the plug end of it off so that I just had the socket. Amazon may also already sell the plug that way. Then you can plug the radio into the plug. I would not recommend cutting the plug off the radio, as you never know if you’ll end up using it in the car. That’s what happened to mine and I now use the Anytone 778-UV as my base in the house. I love the Radioddity for in my truck. The cigarette light plug makes it easy to remove and out the radio in the center console for storage. Video on that setup coming soon. Here’s a good link with some suggestions. I would say get one that is rated at least 10A. I also have a Tripp Lite 4.5A that also does the job for this 20W radio, but I think it’s pushing it. Hope that helps and thanks for watching and commenting. forums.mygmrs.com/topic/6791-power-supply-recommendations/
@ thank you I appreciate the knowledge and I agree. I don’t want to cut the plug off that goes into the cigarette lighter. I know people say do it on the Internet but I think you’re just asking for trouble. I could be wrong, but I wanna play it safe thank you again.
@ I look forward to your video of the complete set up. Thank you.
@ video is posted 👍
I have 2017 f150 super crew cab 4x4 has 167,000 miles running strong has 2.7l Ecoboost had oil pan replaced and pcv valve. Nothing major. Its a good truck very powerful seems like in 4x4 low will pull anything long as you have traction. Pulls my pontoon boat no problem.
They should have provided the rails too. They should know about the mismatch and how much did the actually save? Super lame on their part.
Forgot to mention, USB-C charging port on the battery is a Pro 👍
All those years with sync 2 😔
@ I hear you, but it hasn’t been all bad over the last 10 years. Everything works great on it with one exception. Bluetooth in this truck absolutely sucks. The connection sounds crackly at times and the listening volume is all over the place when the other person is talking. I’ve had several different new phones over the last 10 years and it’s definitely the truck and not my phone. One positive note is I like the fact that since mine was an early build 2025, my Sync screen still has the heated seat buttons by the heated wheel button. Ford removed that not too long afterwards, so you have to use the physical buttons below. It’s the best of both worlds for me….if I only turn on my heated seat, I use the physical buttons below as it’s much easier. If I use the heated wheel and seats, I turn them all on from the Sync screen. Thanks for watching.
Thanks for the demo for programming the DB20g. Mine got delivered today and spent time programming repeaters for my area. I watched your video few days ago but had to review tonight and was a great help. Thank you for posting.

And I'll mention this because i didn't see anyone else say it, not only is lightening not an issue, but PVC is so durable that Ed stayed he had some that have been outside for 20 years. PVC is more durable than fiberglass. If at all possible, mount it outside. High as possible.
@@sweet65mustang great points!! Having the antenna mounted outside wasn’t an option for me, therefore in the attic above the office bedroom was a perfect place. I hit all my local repeaters without a problem. I also put up in the attic a 4’ (that’s all the height I have in my attic) Comet GP1 dual band for 2m/440. That one’s hooked up to my 25 watt Anytone AT-771UV. I’ve been getting great results with that combo. Thanks for watching and commenting.

Nice video. With a little fooling I got my tones input and works on my repeater. I am using win 11 and this software will not read from radio or write to radio. Played with it for too long. Any suggestions?
@@stevehakala8503 I am running the CPS software on an older laptop running Windows 10 (I’m a MAC user). First thing to check is to see if the software sees a com port that the programming cable is plugged into. In software if I go to Set/Set Com, there is nothing there in the dropdown when the cable is not plugged in to the computer. As soon as I plug it in, I can see COM6 is now there and is the only choice. At that point I would plug the other end into the mic plug on the radio. If you don’t see a com port listed after you plug the cable into the computer, you might need or not have the right driver for the chip in the cable. Check Radioddity’s website for a download if needed. If you’re seeing the com port but nothing happens when you select “Program/Read From Radio”, make sure the plug is firmly seated into the radio. I have had occasions where I’ve plugged the mic back in and while all the buttons, including the PTT work fine on the microphone, and the radio responds, no one can hear me. If I then unplug the mic and then re-plug it back in and make sure I hear the click sound, then the mic works fine and I have no issues. Wondering if maybe you experienced that same type of connection issue with the programming cable. If all else fails, contact Radioddity customer service at their website. They’ve been pretty helpful for me. Good luck and let us know you find.
How not to Do video 😂
@@OldGrowthRedwood what’s your preferred method, assuming you’ve had to go through this Jeep engineering design nightmare? Hopefully you had an easier time. I had a friend with an ‘18 JL do the method shown by Wayalife (removing the fuse/solenoid harness at the top of the battery box) and ended up damaging one of the connector plugs. The third way is remove the inner fender liner. Probably would have had some broken clips there too. Thanks for watching and commenting.
Can you post a very 101 level video how to route those wires through the back there? Have the same ATV.
@@MarY-bk3ng I won’t be at the house where the ATV is for a couple of months. It’s very easy. You remove the seat and slide out the plastic cover that covers the battery. there is a hole in the back of the trunk box that leads to the battery area. You just pass the wires through to the battery. From there you connect the two ends of the charger wire to the battery, slide the cover back in place and put the seat back on. Easy Peezy.
Thank you! Very helpful. We have a seat on the back of our ATV, similar to your box. Did you have to remove that to access the battery?

My only gripe that Anytone is investigating is a popping noise I get from the mic speaker if I have the audio set to both the main unit and the mic. @@Roadrunnerz45 agreed but keep in mind this is their entry level dash cam and is priced as such. There are some brands that include gps at this price point but many are just cheap junk. In the Mini 3 they have switched the camera orientation from vertical to horizontal and added a polarizing issue. They have also resolved the overheating issue that many of the Mini 2’s were experiencing. The two Mini 2’s that we already have do get quite hot, but have never failed to work. Do you wan to sell the original F 150 bed lined tailgate panel? I bought my F 150 from the dealer but didnt want the ATV ramps so they removed them and replaced the tailgate panel with one that was only painted and not bed lined.
I have a auto 3v. It gets to 0-60 in around 5.2 seconds and it’s currently got 135k. It’s no 5.0 but it’s still pretty damn quick. I’ve never done a quarter mile pass but it should be high 13s.
Great to hear. Totally agree, it’s not a 5.0 (that’s in my F-150) but it’s still plenty fast for me. Still 100hp more than my ‘82 Vette whose 350ci is rated at 200hp. My kids 4 cylinder SUV makes more power than that 😂
Thank you so much!! My 2024 came brand new at the 11 o'clock. I test drove another jeep but hadn't driven this one until I drove it home....big mistake!! Thanks again for sharing!!
@@stevel6252 congrats on the new Jeep. Hate when the dealers tell you it’s normal and then don’t even fix it correctly. When we took our back, it was a little better but still way off. It’s so easy to correct it yourself….just make sure you adjust the nut a little at a time. I was surprised how much the steering wheel position changed from turning the nut very little. My first attempt moved it over to the other wrong side and I had to back it off a bit. Please do yourself a favor and keep an eye out for the paint blistering issue. I did another video on this and there is a huge Facebook group dedicated to this called “JL Corrosion can be Fixed”. We too went through this. We were lucky so far as the repaint has held up 3 years later. That said, if it comes back we will trade it immediately. We already said, this is our first and last jeep. We wanted a better understanding of the software, and this video was spot on. Thank you for sharing!
My radio does not automatically add 5MHz to the transmit frequency and I cant find any way to update this value- so I am unable to access my local channel 15 gmrs repeater.
