When I start back up, I should have quite a bit of material. Sadly, if I don’t feed the algorithm with as much as I was doing before, which was a video per week, UA-cam basically shuts me down 😥🤦‍♂️ But I for sure will produce more in the future 😊 Thanks for keeping me encouraged.

    It sounds like you are pronouncing 耐心as 耐一心…am I just mishearing you? Or is this like “儿“ - just a regional or colloquial pronunciation?

    • @learnpromandarin
      @learnpromandarin 2 місяці тому

      Good question. I think it’s just the pronunciation that I’ve heard or hear a lot, which may be a regional thing. But I think I only noticed it on the first time I said it. But if you heard it more than once, then it is what I’m accustomed to. Could be a northern thing or just a shěngyáng 沈阳 thing. I’m not sure. Something else that’ll happen the more you speak Chinese with certain people, the more you’ll realize what words they smash together or don’t enunciate clearly, which will naturally rub off on you. 😉

      I love it 😆😁 Chinese is awesome 😎 It is one of the things I love about the language. The mix and match of characters to make a word. It can be as funny as the word Earth = 地球, which could be ground, dirt, or earth and ball. Or it can be beautiful and have a deep meaning like 感谢 🥹🙏🏻 where as 感 comes from 感觉 to feel, and 谢 from 谢谢 to thank someone. So instead of just saying “thanks”, you’re thanking the person with feeling. It’s stronger and more beautiful to me. Anyway, I love Chinese 😉😁❤️

    I really enjoy your breakdown and explanation of vocabulary. Can you offer some encouragement or tips when it comes to fluency, memorization and speed.

    • @learnpromandarin
      @learnpromandarin 4 місяці тому

      The fastest that I’ve learned any language Chinese or Spanish. Is when I was actively using it. For example, I play an active role in our local Mandarin speaking branch at church. That allows me to speak it and listen to it actively everyday (not passively like watching television, I’m engaged because I’m part of the conversation). So seek out any organization whether in person (preferably in person) or online that a lot of native speakers are involved in, and preferably don’t speak enough English for you to cheat and/or give up on practicing your Chinese. Second is that when I first learn to speak a language, I stick with only one subject at a time. For me, it started out with religion and religious terms. Then it naturally moved towards business, because there are always opportunities to do business. Then politics and other topics. My suggestion here is to focus on one subject and practice listening and speaking about the various aspects of that subject for approximately 3-6 months. Then move on to one to two other similar subjects. You’ll see how you will pick up the other two subjects so much quicker than the first. Lastly is practice using the sentence structures that you see in grammar books or on these videos in each of these subjects. The more you do this the less likely you’ll forget them and the more likely you’ll internalize them, making them your own. The only way I’ve been able to memorize new vocabulary is by finding as many opportunities to use it in real life until the sounds that I’m speaking become words to me and not just sounds. Also I ask Chinese natives if I’m using the word correctly. After about the third or fourth time I’ve asked a native and they’ve confirmed, I stop asking about that word. In other words, I talk to them about the usage of a certain word in Chinese (I’m not asking them in English about the usage of a word, only in Chinese), and we discuss about that word

      @learnpromandarin 6 місяців тому

      真不错! 第一道第三是对的。 最后两个也是对的,但为了说what’s the distance from New York to California之类的中国人一般的话会把一个“远”放在句子的后边。比方说, 纽约到加州有多远? 然后在这个情况 “有多长” 有点儿不清楚你想知道的是什么 (比如 distance or time)。 比如说,从深圳到沈阳需要多长时间? “时间” 就让他们知道你说的是time (ie how much time does it take) 但如果你说 “从深圳到沈阳有多远? 那,这个“多远” 就是distance (ie how much distance is in between the two places). “有多长”更像”what’s the length…of the item” 希望这个有帮助。 还有呢,从纽约开车到加州有两千七百七十六英里。和从深圳坐火车到沈阳有两千三百一十三公里。 😉

      Great question. 吧 (ba) is for suggestions. 把 (ba3) is for moving the noun before the verb 😊 Some characters have so many functions like 来 (lai2). Or the word “to get” in English. 😉

      @@danielarodriguezminsky9643 I get a lot of the characters confused all the time, especially if they aren’t used in a sentence or have some sort of context. I’m always improving my reading, which improves my overall language ability. But honestly, most people that I know that just stick with pinyin actually do just fine with communicating. Reading characters does bump it up a level for sure. But they can communicate all day long without knowing a bunch of characters. At the end of the day, language is just a bunch of sounds 😉

    The fact is, 'Yes. You can learn a lot from this video.' It has a similar method to the Pro Spanish method and yes, it is essential to know sentence structure (and, of course, get used to it through practice). I'm glad it is a video that I can stop a lot because you do move rather quickly and you cover a lot of very useful material. Review and perhaps, spaced repetition practice could also be quite helpful. In the Pro Spanish lessons, I do like how he builds the pyramids. They are a kind of review and practical application of things that he already taught previously. Thanks for doing this. It's great material (and method) that's not found elsewhere.
