Nice job on the review. I was thinking about the xlr-12 myself, utilizing a short p365 slide/PMM comp w/ Mag Guts 14+1 baseplate. Currently, I can just 'barely' get all three amigos onto X/XL frames. I'm hoping it will be comfortable considering the added width and baseplate. What size gloves do you wear?

Just found your channel after you shared your link in the Reddit 2011 thread asking about the Athena. Awesome comparison of some very desirable guns. Subscribed. Yeah, you got me rethinking the Athena in favor of a Hayes Cobra ..except I can get the Athena in stock. (the "Want" is real) Would I shoot the Hayes better than the Athena? Dunno. Probably not. 300 subs are sneaky rounds, not defense rounds. if you want to get quiet with good ballistics, look at .45 or a good 9mm. that shorty 300 is great for HD but with supers of course. It just seems to be the wrong weapon to reach for, not the wrong rounds.
@@nickslosubi690 not sure I understand? It has the same energy as 45acp but with a flatter and more accurate trajectory. I did call out how you will get much better performance using 300 blk supers and much better stopping power, but I want it as quiet as possible for the specific application I built it for. I also keep a 9mm, 12 guage, and a 5.56 SBR for HD also. Using decentralized storage for them. *edit* I was mistaken. I think I did my reasoning and comparison on my “best HD gun” video where I discuss why I chose 300blk subs instead of 9mm, 45acp, 10mm, etc.

@@CR12221 glad you liked it!
Placed My order for a platty last week. ETA if end of Feb. Can't wait. I do wish they had a porting available, but not yet. I did confirm with Stealth they plan to release a ported model sometime next year but no solid plans currently. So I'm just going to have my barrel ported to match the existing porting in the slide option I chose which was the trident slide. 3 ports on each side of the slide. Should cost not much to have the barrel drilled to match and it should help a decent amount.
@@SNBI2A or get a second barrel with porting to match in case you ever decide to do limited optics division in USPSA
Fun video. The Bul is all steel except for the grip. Love my Air. After a few thousand rounds my trigger is an almost too light 1lb 6oz. I also have a DS9. The Bul compares very well with it. It's a shame you couldn't add a DS9 into the mix. DS9 and Vudoos swim in the same price pool. Was the Hayes ported? Doesn't look it. Hayes is definitely on my list of guns I'd like.
@@SEAKPhotog damn that is a light trigger! I really really want to try a DS9 and another friend has one but was sick and couldn’t make it to the range. So hopefully soon I can run it against the others. The Hayes was not ported… I can’t imagine what the ported ones feel like
@SmallArmsFirearms Looking forward to a DS9, Vudoo, Air comparison when your buddy feels better.😉 I'm happy the Hayes wasn't ported. Most reviews feature ported Cobras. I'm not a ported barrel fan, so it was nice to get a look at a Hayes I may actually order. (Altho TBH, I may end up with a new or used Atlas since they're readily available without wait times and the older I get, the less I want to wait a year or whatever for a gun 🤷🏻♂️). As for the Air trigger, yeah, trigger discipline is a must 😬. I should probably increase the pull weight a bit but it's so much fun. 😁
@@SEAKPhotog I love that Hayes offers the ability to buy 2 barrels when you build one out. That way you can use the ported barrel on things like steel challenge or just fun range days, then swapping to the non-ported for things like limited optics division. And if you're already spending $5k+ on a pistol... whats another $300 hah.
@@SmallArmsFirearms Yeah, that's absolutely a cool choice and one that I'd certainly consider.
I have 4 staccatos and I have an atlas and a ck arms and bul. I would never buy a platypus. I shot two of them now and I think they are shi in my opinion. I would buy a staccato over them any day of the week. Just wanted to clarify. You rated the guns based on specific criteria, the obviously better guns being pretty much hand made, then dinged the really good guns based on price? And you took a concealed carry pistol (OA2311) and compared it to what are essentially race guns?
@@jimbobborg22 was just reviewing and rating double stack 1911’s that you generally can’t ever find at a “gun store”. As far as comparing them, I am giving them a score in each category compared to ALL pistols I have ever shot. Not just other 2011’s or race guns. For the sake of telling the viewers why one gets a certain score, it just helps sometimes to say “the 2311 doesn’t have a perfect trigger like this race gun, so it gets xyz score instead of a 10/10”. Sorry for any confusion.
@@SmallArmsFirearms Okay, thanks for the further explanation. BTW, I have no idea where you are located, but one of my local gun stores, which is also a range and a gym, is a stocking Staccato dealer and has three OA 2311s in stock, plus it has a few Atlas pistols in stock. They have for rent several of the Staccato pistols if you want to try them out. I have not personally shot the Staccato C, I have shot the XL, which is exactly like my STI DVC 3-gun. I also have the original STI Staccato (single stack) before the name change. I have no complaints with either pistol. And on a side note, I do have an SVI Infinity limited gun. Not flexing, just letting you know my experience.
@@jimbobborg22 Woah! can you actually rent an Atlas or just the Staccato's? I'm in Colorado and there are a few ranges that have Staccatos you can rent but nothing like the 2311's or "custom" 2011's. I'm glad they have 3 of the OA 2311's in stock, that means they might be gaining traction? Scheels in Colorado Springs does usually stock a couple Atlas pistols here and there, but you obviously can't rent them to try but you can at least get a feel for the ergo's that way.
@@SmallArmsFirearms Sorry for the wait. Yes, they have two Atlas pistols for rent, as well as the complete Staccato line. They also have the SA pistol for rent, too. They're using the rentals to sell pistols, which I think it is a good strategy. Yes, they carry Atlas and Staccato, as well as a few other more expensive pistols.

Good job dude. You look like a handsome filipino though

You are probably getting harder reset on Hayes, I have atlas, I would go Hayes, really tired of hearing how fit and finish on atlas is so good, have had two and they have been marginal on the verge of unexceptionable.
That's really unlucky, the 4 I have personally shot all felt the exact same. I have already reached out to Hayes to try and see about possible trades....
I actually really like this video. Thank you. Yes, the other commenters are correct that technically the only 2011 is Staccato. but I totally get what you’re saying. As the producer you get to compare whatever guns you feel like. Let’s all move on. I own the Athena and the Erebus. I actually had my Erebus trigger tuned so it has an even shorter reset and it’s down to 1.5 pounds. Super short reset. I put the brass plates on the grip to make it heavier and it’s even lighter shooting them before. My friend, who has super fast split times has shot a bill drill at 7 yards with it at 1.22 seconds from the holster. It’s a beast. I have the atlas case and I have never used it. The reason is I never go to the range with only a single pistol so I have a multi pistol case. I’ve never shot or even seen a Hayes custom in person. They are a very low production custom shop. These represent the very top of the pyramid in the class. Whether the individual shooter has the capability to take advantage of it is a whole different story.
@@jaceprovo thank you for taking the time to comment and watch. That erebus and your friend sound wild. I didn’t even think it was possible to do a bull drill that fast from holster hah! I agree about the hard case part. I use a simple pistol sleeve because I’m always bringing multiple guns as well.

The Hayes also has a unique grip design that makes it almost impossible to get a mag stuck on reload. It somehow guides the mag in and straightens it out. Given how easy it is to lose a lot of time fumbling a reload, this is a huge feature.
@@yut2bibble yes! I totally forgot to mention that but the competition magwell it came with is like cheating.
@SmallArmsFirearms it's actually part of the grip design and autocorrects without needing the magwell. It's some black magic for sure. Also hayes mentioned in another video that they made the magwell flat on the sides so you can prop it up for table/ barrel starts.
@@ZChaosFactor I need to buy a ported hayes with two barrels. One ported and one not ported. I love them so much at this point
Love your channel love your videos, but I think you definitely missed the mark on a few key topics in the video. The Vudoo has an issue for about 99% of us, it only comes cerakote, no DLC no Nitride,, should be the first thing that you mention. The Platypus and the Oracle arms were too poor choices for a video about higher-end 2011s. It's almost like you got paid a little bit by somebody to gush over the Platypus. Like I said I'm not a staccato fan or a Glock fan but the Platypus should not be in the mix. Most of us higher end gun buyers are laughing about the platypussy. It looks like it was made by Nerf.
I'm curious about the emphasis on finish material. I have guns with all the coatings mentioned and see absolutely no difference in function. I shoot 2 or 3 times a week (admittedly spread over a lot of pistols) and haven't seen any significant wear issues. I have seen Cerakote duty guns get holster wear on the finish, but that is a lot more abuse than most guns are ever going to get.
@@DaveandDebe I appreciate your support my friend and the finish definitely can be a determining factor for some but not generally for myself when it comes to the guns performance. For me at least. What a joke! So by being more expensive it makes the gun not as good? So a Toyota is the best car you can buy? Life doesn’t work that way. A Platypus is as good as an Atlas? Not in this lifetime. What a dumb video. You should have used a Glock.
Huh? When did I say a Platypus is as good as an Atlas, it literally scored lower. The Platypus DOES beat Atlas on the price category though... And yes, I own a Toyota too (I was a mechanic for years and understand quality per dollar). The price category is more like "best bang for the buck" kind of scoring.
@@SmallArmsFirearms you should have labeled the video as best bang for your buck. I never watch those videos. Then you could put on a Hi Point and called it a 2011.
@@garyokie4893 I apologize for misleading you then.
Holy shit are 2011 guys a bunch of whiny babies.
@@wellsbibo6175 not all. The 2011 subreddit is full of a lot of great guys with fantastic advice, but…. This is UA-cam hah. There’s a reason I addressed the staccato thing in the beginning.
So glad to see someone making a HIGH END/Custom comparison and NOT include Staccato. Staccatos are fucking awesome, but they are, just as you said, mass produced production line guns. And yes, the Platypus is superior to the Staccato and I’m not factoring in price. Fanboys heads are gonna explode, and I was a bit of a fanboy when I paid for my Staccato, but my Platypus is so much better. Slicker, smoother, with a crisper trigger and far better slide to frame fit. And Stacatto can stop making us pay $100 for a damn optics plate or for a flat trigger shoe when you’re paying minimum $2600 and still don’t get enough mags. It’s a ripoff now.
Your Platypus outshoots Staccato XC?
@@garyokie4893 He might be comparing the platy to the Staccato P as that is more of the same price range and setup since either don't have a comp.
You nailed it. It's just like you said, I really do like how Staccato's shoot, but come on already, there are other companies building better stuff for cheaper with more features. At this point, it's just people that are in love with the brand name.
@@SmallArmsFirearms See that’s the problem. People always compare against Staccato. Staccato is a brand, not a model.
@@garyokie4893 fair. That’s why in the video I make sure to call out the P and the XC as they are fairly different levels of pistols.
So, besides the trigger the Oracle arms does everything my cz p07 does. Just the cz is more reliable, concealable, cheaper, etc.
