Nice old vintage stihl 051,,they are an excellent saw for the collection, yours looks to me like it's in great condition too,,,,I have one of these also, mine is a little newer than the one you have,,I have what I believe a twenty or twenty one inch bar on my saw with 404 chain,,,,,enjoyed your great video

You have a great saw! They are big, heavy, and loud. I love it! I just started looking for a bar. I was hoping to find a Stihl, 28-32" bar, but no luck so far. I plan on staying with the 404 sprocket.

Cool old saw. A lot of guys don’t like them because they are heavy, but that never bothered me. I always enjoyed running mine. I do prefer 075 over a 050 or 051 but for a 89 cc saw they do really good, I used to run my 47 inch bar on my 050 and it handled it well. You shouldn’t have too much trouble finding a bar for it. I have from a 12 inch bar to a 72 inch bar and everything in between the same bar mount as my 088

Thanks, I'm pretty excited about it! They are a heavy saw, and I don't have a bar and chain on it yet. Like you though, I don't care. I'd really like to get a Stihl bar for it, but I can't find one. All my bars are for the smaller Stihl mounting pattern. I did find bars with the larger Stihl mounting pattern online, a 25" Oregon bar, a 36" Holzfforma bar and a 25" Archer bar. I'm still not sure what I'm going to do.

It is a beast of a saw. You're right, she's runnin' pretty good. A bar and chain and I'm in the wood. Thanks!

Well plenty of bits as spares. But beware there are a lot of variations in the 1111 series saws if you were to tryn build up another power head. Crankshafts, crankcases, oil pumps n drives, clutches and it goes on. If you have a points ignition one amongst the boxes of stuff do not damage the pto side bearing. They are nearly unobtainable. Been on the lookout for one for sometime myself. Put a 25 inch 404 on it and they are a hoot to run. Also have an 076 as well which is fun with a 25 inch on it and 404 chain

Great comment! I'm not sure what I'm going to do with all the spare parts. I appreciate the advice and guidance though. I just put a 25" bar on it. The chain runs tight. I can barely move the chain with my hand when it's sitting on the bench. I was thinking it might be missing a guide bar plate, but I dunno? Something is binding somewhere. Not knowing too much about the saw and having it come in pieces has me guessing. I'll figure it out though.

Solid nose or sprocket nose bar. Solid nose has to run a bit looser or they bind up n turn the chain oiler right to full. Lever full forward under the top cover on the right side

Sprocket nose. It's an Oregon PowerCut bar. I ran it like any other chain at first, then loosened it up thinking it may help, but it didn't. I saw the oiler but didn't mess with it. I'll throw the lever full forward and see what happens. I did pre-lube the bar and chain before I ran it. Thanks!

Also pull the clutch n side covers off and check all the crankcase screws to make sure they are all tight. They do come loose and then it runs really well n then stops!! Been there did that. Or the crankcase starts to fill with chain bar oil n they smoke to all hell. There are 10 of them n on that saw they will be slot head screws so modify a large screwdriver to fit those slot heads really well. Let's you get good leverage on the screw head and it does not slip out of the slot and stuff the screw head. Loctite is your best friend with those old 1111 series saws believe me!

I'll do that. The thing has me scratching my head?! I have an old Chevy slot screwdriver that should work for that. I'll hunt down the 10 bolts, back em' out, loctite em' and see what happens. Thanks for the advice, I appreciate it!

Had one. Wasn't smart enough to put it down when cutting smaller stuff.😊

    I suggest a bore sizing - by looking at parts you have either 050, 051, 075 or 076.... '
    Nice tho - I have 1 also..

Thanks. I thought about that as well, for similar reasons. With it running well and me having too many projects, I'm not sure I'll get to it anytime soon though. I'm sure you enjoy running your 051...
