The old Remington cleaned up, nice. I always considered the greasy grime a protective coating. The paint is usually pretty nice after you clean them up. not faded.
Remington saws are a nice addition to ones collection. The saws were originally MALL branded, and after purchased by Remington they were sold as Remington-Mall, and the MALL name was eventually phased out. Interesting enough roller nose bars were patented by Remington. I have a PL-4 also, but it has an unusual feature, it has a roundtuit on it, which means I will get( around to it )someday. Another good video!
Thanks! I was pleasantly surprised at the condition and quality of the saw once cleaned up. I did read up briefly on Mall/Remington chainsaw history but was unaware that the roller nose bars were patented by Remington. Now that you mention it, I do see that the patent is stamped on the bar. Thanks for pointing that out. The roundtuit feature, ha ha, I like that! I have that feature on a lot of my saws as well, I just didn't know it. Thanks again for pointing that out, ha ha!
Remington made some excellent saws over the years but never had a real large presence in the market. Roundtoits are spread all over my shop too !@@EightWheelsRollin
Very impressive saw! You're accumulating quite the collection. Would be great to see a restoration video or at least before/after showing the condition when you first got these saws.
Thanks! I have 30+ saws in my collection, hard to believe. That's a good idea. I may start showing a before and after clip. They're pretty beat up when I get them.
Thanks, she did turn out pretty good. I start by emptying any fluids. I then take an air compressor to it and blow all the old oil, chips and grime off of it. Be carful not to go too hard with the air, you'll remove paint on some of these old saws. Then it's elbow grease with a can of WD40, paper towels and tons of cotton swabs.
Good score! I also have several "copied" Homelite xl 12 saws. I have a 261 poland. a couple lombards. a 1200 pioneer. a 3.7 craftsman and a JM5753 Remington. Its been stated that the XL 12 was the most copied chainsaw ever?

It did, I was surprised. You know, I'm beginning to think you may be right. The greasier they are, the more they're protected from the elements.

got 3 David Bradleys if interested
Remington has never been on my radar, until now. I agree, excellent saws! Thanks for stopping by!
I just might be. @benjaminwilkinson709

The Lombard Comango was also a close copy of the XL-12/SXL, also several Pioneer were close enough to use the piston and cylinders
I knew of the Pioneer, but I didn't know of the Comango. Thanks! The XL-12, It just worked.
Still has the original bar
It does. Not in bad shape either.
What was your cleanup process for this saw? It looks great!

The XL-12 is a solid saw. I can see why others copied it.
