Welcome to Simple Self Defence with Ryan & Raúl.
We are two close friends that have trained together for almost 10 years.
We created this channel to provide simple self defence videos that are practical and easy to use.
The videos reflect how we train. No flashy techniques, no nonsense. Just simple self defence that keeps us safe.
Ryan is an International Protective Security Advisor, operating all over the world including in hostile environments. He has extensive training and operational experience in protective security and personal safety. He has years of experience in martial arts and self defence.
Raúl has many years experience in training and coaching a variety of martial arts and self defence systems and is also a certified British Boxing Board of Control Professional Boxing Coach.
We are definitely not martial arts experts, jedis or senseis. This is a good thing - because it means that everything we demonstrate in our videos, you can easily do to!
Cheers

Don't Get Abducted: Front Bear Hug Defences
I suffered an injury to my hand almost a year ago, preventing me from forming a tight fist with my right hand. This video gave me some great alternatives
You had a lot of violent situations😂
I’m 54 and disabled; I am ambulatory. A 20 something kids big kid wasn’t happy that I wouldn’t sell him alcohol. We be fan to argue. He beat the hell out of me. Broke my nose fractured my jaw even broke a finger. It was eye opening. I’m fortunate that I live in the states and we have carry laws. I’ve since taken classes on how and when to use it. Your advice is very good and appreciated. God bless
I use psychology and it works almost every time . If someone starts such as mouthing off in a pub i walk over like they're my best buddy . It often confuses them because they don't expect that reaction . Most times they usually back down if you use it in the right way .
So I’mm American. What do I do if 3 guys approach me with their guns drawn?
I guess you have a gun too??
Never linger, always leave before the servants show up!
If you can... Of course leave!
Ole tus 🥚🥚 colega 😃 Saludos desde Barcelona 🤜🤛
Gracias neng!! Es un Poco quejica pero el chaval las toma... Le tengo bien entrenado 😅
I have a great system. I start screaming and crying, please don't hit me.
Actually, that could be an smart option too
Run forest run lol
😂
Unless you are alone in an alley, the various moves that you showed in this video could result in you (the "victim") being charged with a misdemeanor or possibly assault, depending on which state you are in. You, having made the first strike, are not the "victim" anymore. You became the instigator, the perpetrator. In Calif, you could be sentenced for up to 90 days in prison &/or $400 fine - plus, you now have a permanent police record. So, when in public, the people that watch this need to assess the situation really well, wieghing the risk of fine, prison, & police record against just walking away. As you turn away, watch the dude while you can, and then watch his reflection off a glass, mirror, whatever. Be ready, be smart, don't be the perpetrator. There are several comments below that are of the same opinion. So , think before you act.
My friend's wife used to grab his ear and drag him out of the bar. He was a tough guy but it worked every time.
👏💪😆
When you're in my face you get introduced to Mr. Elbow.
I’m enjoying videos and thank God I live in state that recognizes my second amendment.. I’m old, 105 lb women, I’m not fighting anyone anymore
I am sure you are capable of doing it anyway if push comes to shove
Thanks for watching! Stay safe!
Ghello peeps, Stavros ghere! He certainly enjoyed going for the guys balls and the Russian homeless man that biffed his girlfriend probably suffered the same fate. All those incidents he has experienced makes me think to stay away from those places. Whatever best to avoid the situation in the first place 🤓
The older I get the more I try to follow that advice indeed ... But sometimes those things happen in normal socializing scenarios :/
Well done ........well presented . Thank you .
Thank you for watching!
The father has been in a lot of fights. Is he the bully?🤔
Not at all, Just in decades of all sorts of contexts and situations I came across some challenging situations... I could have been doing better with avoidance to be fair, but when you are young sometimes make you not to choose the best options
@@raullm6820 Yes Sir. I was just trying to be funny. You are truly the Man!!
@@discipleslim9506 thanks amigo.
Even while attempting to de escalate I think it’s a big mistake to put hands on an aggressive person.
It depends on the person and the moment mate... But above everything else, that is a pre emotion defensive movement to start controlling his arms
Stayed in Yorkshire for 4 months and got a black pudding in Ecky thump, best time of my life😂
I recognize some English words here, but damned if I know what this means.
🤜🥥 "He's not acting" 😭
Even if I reacted to being physically lynched by a mob, they'd all have their story and I'd be the one getting incarcerated for defending myself.
One of the OODA loop breakers I recommend is colors, "The fence is pink?", or "is that your dog?" in a questioning tone has led to a few openings. great video, well done.
Thanks! Good tips too!
Life ain't like this guys, usually you're scrambling around like school kids, with a woman on your back pulling your hair out ;)
A frightened man is a dangerous man

Angelo; i've been karateka from 13th until 45th year. Now i'm training alone in my barn. And yes, i used to be much stronger and faster when i was younger. So now when it comes to fighting, you have to rely on youre experiences. Just simply but effective technics to take youre opponent out. Not so much the flamboyant movements you used to make, haha... The older i get, the more effective these simple technics become... And it works... ;-) To get stronger train 2 or 3 times a week, and practice youre pushups! They really make you stronger, in every way. 80 - 100 per session is very effective for youre body.. And you can punch a lot harder.... not all at once of course, but distributed throughout the session. 15 reps, another exercise and then again...
Yes, of course training is paramount. Good tips about how we can do it even if our own
What style of Karate if I can ask?
@@raullm6820 hi raul. It was Wadokan style. The way of the Crane bird my sensei called it. It is a roundish movement, based on defence. I applied at tournements and all that. And i also did Koshiki full contact but that only few years. That was rough!
Pistol
Not legal... And what about if the other one has a pistol too?
I actually have more injuries to myself thanks to my 50 year Martial Arts journey, and I wouldn’t have it any other way…
Hear hear...
Using even an improvised weapon whilst possibly effective in defending and probably injuring raises a potential A.B.H. assault to G.B.H. if a charge results. This can be the outcome even if you are defending yourself - if it can be shown that you have not retreated to the last resort! Beware.
Of course you need to be smart
Letting someone up in your face in the first place is mistake number one. Mistake number two is believing that a groin strike will end the fight: It will hurt, but it is often possible to fight yourself through it by will, adrenaline and determination. What do you think a trained fighter will do if you pulled a stunt like that? It won't be pretty.
You didn't understand the video at all, who is saying the groin is going to stop the fight??... Also it's not always possible to stop someone being in your face.
@@raullm6820 The video clearly shows a groin strike, and the "victim" being unable to fight. The video is unrealistic, you say? Yes, that was kind of my point: It *is* unrealistic *and* a terrible idea if the other guy is better trained. Anyone doing that will be on the receiving end like Joe Son. Are you sure you want to go down that route? In the *rare* cases where moving backwards/walking away won't fix it, a grip and a Judo throw is a better choice than most. It likely won't get you in trouble, and it is much more humiliating for the other guy than getting punched.
@@hb9145 if you are a skillfully trained judoka of course, but 99% of the population have no such preparation
@@raullm6820 Many of these encounters can be avoided by staying away from certain places, times and people. Secondly, one can try to defuse a situation and not responding to challenges. Walk away if possible. If all of these fail, only then I would recommend self-defense. You can't get any kind of sensible preparation from a short UA-cam video anyway. What you do get, however, is a false sense of security. It is like those women's self-defense classes where they think their techniques will work against a large, muscular man. "Why be careful? I got this!" One needs proper training, and that generally takes years of practice and sparring/competitions.
@@hb9145 we do agree we the first paragraph, although not always possible. We are not saying "watch this video, and then you're a safe 4ever", on the contrary we promote in the channel to keep ourselves as well trained and fit, healthy, etc as possible. This channel offers extra tips that have worked for us through the years in very different contexts
its not fear that causes you to freeze, its the adrenaline...
Punch? Nah. Elbow, meet face. Face, elbow.
Up in your face is assault. That's clear invasion of personal space, especially in a threatening manner. You are within your rights to knock someone flat guys, so stop worrying about being sued later. Better to be judged by 12 than carried by 6.
Ok this guy spent way too much time touching this guy’s nuts. OK you showed us you hit them there, but did you have to keep tapping it gay gay
What a childish comment...
I would like to see a video about what to do if I’m sitting down in a café and someone waves a knife. I do think some of these guys just want to be scary (and they are). I do have a handbag that is not very large but has a lot of stuff in it, so it does have some weight. In the scenario, assume I am at a free-standing table with space on either side of me, but as an alternative what would be the best defense if sitting in a booth or cozy banquette in the corner of a pub, for example. Late middle age or early seniorhood, not athletic, female. I have just discovered your channel and have subscribed.
Thanks for the feedback. Please watch the video we filmed about defending from a knife attack with a handbag.
Young guys will fight you Old guys will hurt you
Thanks for making this video 👍🏼
Thanks 4watching!
Here in the USA, I legally carry a pocket sized canister of police grade pepper gel spray.
According to Wikipedia, Kris Kristofferson was a Boxing Blue at Merton College Oxford.
Question at the point when cops appear and Questioned will I be charged with sexual assault 🤔 🙄 🙃 😐
Concealed carry stops this.
If that's legal yes... But not at all where we are.
Props to Ryan for finishing the video with a stomach ache
If you're hitting hard enough to knock someone out or hurt them bad enough to stop them, you might hurt your hand. Whether you're using closed or open hands
Always a risk

When my dad was younger he came from a very violent family in late 1940/1950s in a town in the North East, you had to know how to defend yourself. As I got older he decided to show me as a female, what he learned prevented me from being raped. My dad knew nothing about mashel arts but everything these people are showing is very similar to what I was taught. But he always said try to talk your way out it, quietly to prevent an audience and walk away.
Great story and good idea, thanks for sharing!
Thought I would let you know if you break down in your car, lock your doors, if a good setmaritin comes to help only open the window about a center meter no wider to talk to them,it's always a good idea to keep large hairspray in the pocket of the door, you never know when a girl needs to look her best. If I have to walk anywhere I always have my keys in my hand, one key between each finger so you know which key to use when you get home. Hope this gives you some extra tips.@@raullm6820
So many scared people in this comments section
Great video, thanks.
Thanks for watching!
You left out keep your distance. It’s never a good idea to be up close and personal , More than arm’s length
Of course, but sometimes it is simply not up to you
I believe it is the well known Jocko Willink (a retired U.S. Navy SEAL) that said, even if you are skilled like him, the best option is situational awareness, and avoiding conflict in the first place - in other words, if you can cross the street to avoid a lunatic coming your way - do it.
Of course, but that's not always possible I am afraid
@@raullm6820 Very true.
