    What’s better. Your way with square stock or round dowel? Also I’m concerned if there was fire at night and power was out how easy it is to get dowel out in the dark.

    • @WarriorWisdom
      @WarriorWisdom Рік тому

      Hard to say which is better. I think it probably just depends on your window frame. For me, the square dowels fit great, and are perfect. They aren't difficult to get out (at least mine aren't) -- I suppose that could be a concern, but I could easily do it in the dark. Just make sure you cut them a tad short so they aren't "jammed" in there too tight.

    I saw this was posted 1 year ago. How are they holding up? Any false alarms? Battery replacements?

    • @WarriorWisdom
      @WarriorWisdom Рік тому

      They have done quite well. I have no complaints. The only "false alarms" that I can recall were actually a good thing IMO. For example, I was building some shelves across the room and the hammering set it off. I chalked that up to the alarm doing its job. Have not had to replace any batteries yet, but there is one that I can tell is needing them replaced soon. I test them fairly often so the batteries would last even longer if I wasn't setting them off on purpose. Overall, a great purchase -- especially considering how inexpensive they are to begin with.

    You should make a video where you actually put it to the test, since I have seen a video where that product did not offer any resistance and the door opened easily

    • @WarriorWisdom
      @WarriorWisdom Рік тому

      I've pushed against it pretty hard and it definitely offers resistance, and I'm not a small guy. Although I don't personally want to try kicking in my door and cause any damage that I'll have to fix. I think a big part of it depends on the screws though. The ones it comes with are not great. If you use better screws, I don't see how you could get through it without a LOT of force.

    • @WarriorWisdom
      @WarriorWisdom Рік тому

      Also make sure you are getting the one from Defender Security. There are a lot of cheap knock-offs that I would not recommend. It's possible the video you saw was one of those. Double sided deadbolts are a fire hazard and against code in many areas

    • @WarriorWisdom
      @WarriorWisdom Рік тому

      Yes, there are some places that don't allow it. Always good to check on codes in your location. Although I personally doubt the two extra seconds it takes to grab the key -- which you should always keep nearby and always in the same place -- is going to be the difference between life and death in a fire. I'll take my chances on that rather than on the more likely situation of someone trying to break in, but that's just me. Not everyone is the same so that is something for each individual/family to think about and weigh the pros vs cons. Sometimes door reinforcements, window fortifications, and other home security methods come with certain risks. Appreciate your input!

    • @WarriorWisdom
      @WarriorWisdom Рік тому

      I don't disagree with you on that. I thought long and hard about putting the Boerboel on the list. They certainly are among the best guards dogs in the world. However, they are a relatively rare breed and I already had the Cane Corso on there, which has a lot of similarities, so I made the decision to not include them. The screws can break the water barrier. Better to apply multiple layers of thick enough sticky tape. If my door only lifts 1/8th of an inch, is that within acceptable (safe) limits, burglar wise?

    • @WarriorWisdom
      @WarriorWisdom Рік тому

      I've never had any issues with the water barrier, but that does bring up a good point... something to consider. As far as the amount of lift to be burglar-proof, I can't really say for sure because every door is going to be different, but my guess is 1/8th of an inch is probably good. It's hard to get much less than that. Worth doing a test run yourself and see if you can lift it off, or maybe have friend help as well just to be sure.

      That might be true and it might not. No home security item is going to be effective 100% of the time but you don't know if the person breaking into your home will be scared off by this or not. Better to have it just in case. And most of the time someone burglarizing a home isn't a "professional" it's just someone committing a crime of opportunity, and they don't want attention drawn to them so a loud siren very well could send them running.

      Yes that's always a concern with glass. There is security film that you can put on the door that makes if MUCH more difficult to break through - not impossible (nothing is) - but certainly helps. Also, glass break sensors (see my video on that) are great for home security... they can't stop the glass from being broken but they will set off alarms if it is. And yes there are shutters you can buy and/or security doors. The key is to layer various home security/defense to make your home as secure as possible. My wife left her keys in the apt, my kid left hers too. I am ALWAYS preaching "I don't care if we are ALL going to the same place, we all have to have our keys." Sure enough this day I end up having to leave my key with her(I don't remember why) but I get home and think "maybe I can get in via the sliding door. Took me less than 5 mins to break into my own place. I had the peg in place up at the top, but the latch was not engaged. I almost lifted it up but didn't want the door to fall inward and break. So I just shook the door left and right till the peg dropped and I walk right in. That was the last straw for me that the key issue.

    • @WarriorWisdom
      @WarriorWisdom 2 роки тому

      Yes, I agree, it's important to MAKE SURE you have your keys. Even if you have an automatic garage door that you always come in, you could come home some day and find the power is out and it won't open. You could also hide a key outside somewhere just in case, but don't put it anywhere obvious or easy to find -- I can't stress that enough -- it needs to be virtually impossible to find, and not hidden somewhere close to your door, it should be a "last resort" thing that is not used unless absolutely necessary. And you should definitely add some additional security to your sliding door if it was that easy to get in!

You'll definitely want to secure it because it sounds to me like it would be quite easy to break into.

    Sir do you have any idea on how to burglar proof a security door?

    • @WarriorWisdom
      @WarriorWisdom 2 роки тому

      Some of the things mentioned in this video, such as door armor and longer screws would help keep it from being kicked in. Make sure it has a very good lock. A security door in itself is much more secure to begin with, so that's good.

    What about windows that don't open from the side but that you lift up?

    • @WarriorWisdom
      @WarriorWisdom 2 роки тому

      I guess it would depend on the exact window, but I'd think you should still be able to put a dowel in it (or something similar) to prevent it from being slid up.

    I saw a guy using criss crossing wire in window in windows to keep people out. What gauge wire and how to tie the wire?

    • @WarriorWisdom
      @WarriorWisdom 2 роки тому

      I'll look into that. Seems like it could be effective for sure. Though I haven't seen it before.

    The metal pin / bolt type mechanisms that go through both doors keep it from being lifted off and from sliding open as well. Got mine for like $8 at ace.

      Awesome! I've seen those but haven't used one. Good to know they work. Thanks for sharing.

    Alot of people will deglaze a window pull the rubber out and lift glass out quietly,would consider taking bottom and top rubber out of fix panel and putting glue or silicone in and rubber back in,makes it a nightmare to get out

    Woah, this is awesome! I'm going to have to pick one of these up. I've got a door that eventually needs a deadbolt this could go right on. Reckon if I put it high enough I could add the deadbolt later!? Awesome video!

    • @WarriorWisdom
      @WarriorWisdom 2 роки тому

      Yeah for sure! It would be especially great to have if you don't have a deadbolt, and still extra reinforcement for after you install a deadbolt. Thanks for watching.

    What about the other side , that opens and there is no stick

    • @WarriorWisdom
      @WarriorWisdom 2 роки тому

      That is a good question. I don't exactly have an answer because I've never seen a window that opens on both sides. I'd think there must be a way to secure both sides. Might just need to look into some other options.

    I completely agree! Same thing happens to me all the time. I made a comment on next door about having cameras outside and pepper spray by my door and someone called me paranoid 🤦

    • @WarriorWisdom
      @WarriorWisdom 2 роки тому

      You are smart, not paranoid. There are around 1.5 million home break-ins each year in the United States alone. I bet none of the victims thought it would ever happen to them, but it did. Always be prepared!

      You could use round dowels as well if you can't find any square ones. I just prefer square because they look better and fit nicely - at least in my windows they do.

    Wow I didn't know these existed, I'm going to have to pick up one or three! I carry my pepper spray and while I advocate for that it's limited in what it can do. Great video!

    • @WarriorWisdom
      @WarriorWisdom 2 роки тому

      Yeah they are pretty nifty little safety devices. Worth carrying for an added layer of self defense. I definitely agree with you on advocating for pepper spray! The personal alarm would be something I'd recommend carrying in conjunction with other protection/defense options.

    This is great, thank you for the tips! I always cringe when I see vacation posts on Facebook. Or even when people ask for a dog sitter of FB for such and such week. It's like a flashing sign!

    • @WarriorWisdom

      Yes, I definitely recommend carrying a portable pepper spray with you at all times (wherever possible). SABRE makes several great options for that as well. Thank you for your comment!
