We would have made it. Those metal beams hang down just enough to clip the very top of the decorators pole I use to attach the GoPro to. If it wasn't for that we would have slipped through OK. As it was, I ended up having to bow haul the boat through. The level under the bridge was very shallow for us.

Hi BusyElf. As others have said, this was filmed mid summer 2024. As we only post vlogs every fortnight we do get a little behind.

Also, the breach is on the south-western stretch of the Bridgewater, near Dunham Massey, whereas Tony and Jan traversed the north-western stretch.

The noise from that bridge really did sound like it was doing more damage than it actually did. From my POV it sounded horrendous! But glad we managed to give you a boost this morning ready for the weekend. ❤️❤️

Historians argue, but generally agree that due to the scale, the engineering advancements, and the more sophisticated extensive design, The Bridgewaters greater impact and resultant influence on future canal development marks it as the first true canal.

It is a lovely canal. But like most things, if they aren't maintained regularly then naturally there will be problems. I don't think even Mr Brindley expected them to last this long and of course there was a period during the 60s when they were all but defunct. You rather missed the point. The fact the Weaver is classed as a navigation rather than a canal excludes it from being named as such. A canal is man made, a river isn't. A canal has to overcome many engineering problems - locks, aqueducts and be constructed to follow a specific course. The fact that this was Brindley's first canal led him to go on to build many more and the whole canal age started as a result. And these are not "my parameters" by the way, many historians will tell you likewise.

@@MakingNewMemories Currently moored up near Lapworth but only use it at weekends for warmth and peace. Had the blacking done and now trying to learn about electrics and plumbing as the boat is 40 years old. You went past it at some point when the previous owner had it as saw it on your channel

You'll soon make it yours and there's always something to learn about boats and boating. Lapworth...? There's a slim chance we maybe heading that way later in the year...😉

Happy New Year! No, thankfully. This was filmed end of last summer. The next vlog will take us into Manchester. Can't imagine what it's like for those stuck at the other end of the canal. Here's hoping their homes are made safe and craned out if needed. The boating community have, as usual, rallied round to help which is heartening to see. Let's hope the canal is eventually fully repaired and opened to navigation again. It's part of our heritage, and too important to not repair it.
