Backpacking to one of Arizona's most beautiful waterfalls is awesome (if you can stand the spiders)
One of the many gems in West Clear Creek, Maiden Falls cannot be adequately described in words or photographs. A tranquil pool above feeds the falls, flowing along a twisting watercourse before tumbling down a wall painted in a kaleidoscope of colors. To get here, you’ll have to brave the rough road, the boulder hopping, the swims, and the strenuous exit hike. It ain’t no joke hiking out of here. Allow as much daylight as you can, or consider backpacking it to make the most of your time. Backpackers can experience the splendor in the golden hour where fading light sets the red rock canyon aglow.

This Arizona oasis can only be reached by a bumpy road and rugged hike (but we had it to ourselves)

One of the most beautiful places on West Clear Creek, Hanging Gardens is an oasis with waterfalls, lush greenery, and a cave you can swim into. As a bonus, you’ll pass through the beautiful White Box narrows. However, to get to this gem requires an hour drive on horrible forest roads and a rugged hike with wades, swims, and slippery boulders. Not a great choice for beginners or families, but we...

      Sorry you didn’t enjoy it. We have a certain style that includes both nature and trail shenanigans that reflect our personalities. Everything that happens is unscripted; however, we wouldn’t have included the clip if there was actual indecency. That being said, we also specifically tell UA-cam this video is not intended for children, so you have to use your own discretion. Some may feel we need to “grow up,” but we have a lot of fun out there, and we aim to both show nature and entertain. Our style won’t be for everyone (you aren’t the first), but there are plenty of other channels that just show nature, and I hope you find what you’re looking for with those. Thanks for the input and thanks for stopping by. Hope you get a chance to visit Fossil Springs, but be aware we saw some butt cheeks out there and they weren’t ours 😂

      Sorry that happened to you. Luckily they didn’t actually undress 😌 They were wearing bathing suits since we had gone there to swim, and we were teasing our friend who took her shirt off because she felt it was too baggy and making her look fat in the pic. Appreciate the feedback.

    There is the Vatican Observatory on top of Mt. Wrightson, but that access was closed due to some kind of endangered squirrels living there. We went there anyway, it was not worth the walk.

      @wildpathsaz 3 місяці тому

      Are we talking about the same Mount Wrightson? This is the high point of the Santa Ritas in southern Arizona, and it used to be called Baldy. There was nothing but a small foundation at the top from a structure that used to be there. Great views from up there, and it looked like there may be an observatory on one of the neighboring peaks.

    Once I drove up to Mt. Wrightson on the back road, starting at Ocotillo. It was a wild drive, I was so glad it was with a rental car.

      We did not see any roads, but I know there is a road to the top of neighboring Mount Hopkins. Could that be it? There was also a structure that looked like it could be an observatory up there. On top of Mount Wrightson, there was the foundation of some kind of structure that looks like it has been gone a long time.

    Haven’t thought about that mountain in 30 years! If I remember correctly we intend on a 3 day trip, but got the heck out of there on the 2nd day instead. Literally hundreds of trips and that’s one of the few I don’t look back on fondly. Can’t specifically remember why, but I do know nobody from our group has returned to that spot. Love watching your videos, reminds me of the old gang that was at the core of our hikes. Keep it up , a lot of us look forward to your shenanigans, especially April. lol, I think I have a lil crush! Happy Hiking!

      You should give it another chance! It’s such a nice hike in the forest if you take Old Baldy Trail, and there’s a nice spring along the way if you go during the right season. It was dry this time. Plus, we always see deer and lots of butterflies. Don’t care for the bugs at the top though! I don’t think it would necessarily make a great backpacking trip because we didn’t see much in the way of campsites, but I’m sure the other trails probably have options. I guess we’ll have to go and find out!

    It's far easier to have a stick with a forked end and be ready to pin it either by the head or body if it tries to attack. Be the predator not the prey, you have a massively intelligent brain, slow down and don't allow panic to override your coherent decision making. If you don't feel one stick is enough, have two ready, face your fear because ultimately facing them makes you better at dealing with them until they change from being a fear to a healthy respect for its abilities. This is what all service people (fire fighters, police, military) do. Clearly it's terrifying to run into a burning building, but with the right equipment, exposure and reassurance that you can overcome the fear, that's exactly what happens, you grow and overcome, ultimately making you a stronger person. Running around the snake trying to clamber over rocks in a panicked state could have very easily resulted in a slip, bang on the head and even hyperextension or broken ankle. That's how fear can overcome your rational decision making. I can't say this enough, step back, slow down, think about how to extend your arms reach and maintain control over the subject. Those jelly legs full of adrenaline almost let you down, falling into or around the snake head first wouldn't have been a good thing. Kudos to you both though, you got past and neither yourself or the animal was hurt. Great video.

      @wildpathsaz 3 місяці тому

      Thanks for the advice - I'm not sure I would be confident I could use a stick to defend against a strike because they happen so fast. I also don't think running past would have really been effective either. Luckily, this guy was stretched out long on some bushes by the time we passed him, so he wasn't in the best striking position. We definitely would have chosen to just avoid him completely if we could, but the nature of the trail made that impossible. We're all safe, and now we have a memory, so that's good.
