      We had planned to go canyoneering, but rain forced us to change our plans. Oh well, it turned out to be an excellent day anyway!

      There’s not much of a trail, but if you’re up for that sort of thing, it’s incredible. Be sure to visit wildpathsaz.com for the map - the map on AllTrails doesn’t go to the arches.

      Thankfully Justin had extra umbrellas and a rain coat to share. I meant to bring one, but I accidentally forgot it.

    Oh my gosh, what a flashback! We did this when I was in high school, 81, maybe 82. Maybe 10 years ago a few of us went to the “ bat cave” but didn’t continue to the arches. Looks like a rainy start but it ended up being a very beautiful day! Thanks for sharing! Happy Hiking!

      We had planned on canyoneering that day, but changed our plans after seeing the weather forecast. Still had to get out there and have some fun! No such thing as bad weather, right? 😉 You went to the cave but not the arches? We actually didn't have time to get up closer to the bat cave. I heard it's pretty smelly, so I wasn't too sad.

    Dang that's so cool with the lake down there! How did you trace the map like that in the video? My friend Mark (in some of my videos) also has the umbrella hat! That is an impressive "window" haha We typically call the smaller ones windows as apposed to arches. Found one in one of our hikes. I just made it a clip in a video on my channel, but didn't mention what it was. There's an arch down in Ramanote cacnyon I've yet to find a little ways from where I live. The last hike I did on Thursday was SO brushy, we climbed up a very narrow canyon. Maybe it was like 30 feet wide but FULL of brush. Very pretty though, lots of little waterfalls to climb over. I feel, it was inevitable as everything was wet. Cannot wait to release video but I have so little time to edit them :( Excited to see yours. Really making me want to go up to the superstitions. I see somebody actually does dig the "cat hole" for their business!

      The guy we were hiking with has hiked all over Arizona, mostly on off trail routes, so he knows where to find a lot of cool things. We were happy to be the beneficiaries of his knowledge and expertise. In return, we took him on his first canyoneering adventure.
      I use the DaVinci Resolve software, and what I did was get a screen cap of a map from USGS (since it is public domain). Then I put an animated line on the map. I set all the points that it would follow, set the animation to start at the first frame and then told it which frame it should end on. Then I animated the text to appear when I wanted it, too. It was something I tried after my daughter told me there’s no sense of progress in my videos. I don’t know what software you use, but I’m sure UA-cam has something to show you how to animate a line. Oh, I also set it to pan the image of the map slightly to kind of follow the line. Pretty nifty, eh?

      @@wildpathsaz super nifty! I also use resolve. You must have used with fusion page to animate it? I am not too good with that page yet. The older guy I hike with has been going most of his life. He's lived in AZ for 20 years or so. In 2015 he invited me to hike with him and I have been going ever since. It is so much fun. We seldom use trails.

      @@exploringgodscountry it's so great to have a good friend to hike with. Looks like you have some great adventures. I met my friends around 2016, and it totally changed my life. Before that, I struggled to find anyone to hike with, and it felt like no one understood me. Turns out, there was nothing wrong with me, I just needed to find my people.

    Awesome video 😎👍
    Heard the bat cave smells very bad 🤢 people recommend wearing throw away clothes if you go there 😱
    Is that an Insta360 camera? How you like it? I wanted to buy one but those super exposed lenses made me nervous 😬, bought a DJI Action instead, not a 360 camera but super sturdy camera and less likely to overheat than a GoPro, love that camera 👍

    • @wildpathsaz
      @wildpathsaz  8 місяців тому +1

      Thank you so much. We didn’t have time to visit the cave, and I’m not sure I’m sad about it. Looks like a LOT of guano. Sounds like you might need to bring a change of clothes and a trash bag for the old ones.

    • @wildpathsaz
      @wildpathsaz  8 місяців тому +1

      Yes, it is an insta 360. My friend who owns the camera said, “The lenses are super exposed. It’s just something you have to be cognizant of. For me, it’s worth the versatility, clarity and resolution of the camera. Also, the editing program is very user friendly. It’s a great little camera that I am finding myself choosing over the GoPro more and more often.” It definitely gets some cool shots.

    there were times....yes I used a trash bag as a raincoat.

    • @wildpathsaz
      @wildpathsaz  6 місяців тому

      🤣 there are some among us who have used one as a backpack cover, too. You just gotta make holes for the straps. Fine for rain, but they make terrible dry bags, as one friend found out the hard way! 🤣🤣🤣
