Could you please advise how a loop at the switch would work if it were 2 switches (both 2 way) in the same plate? Eg if you have got a switch 1 & 2 of separate 2 ways where does the hard active go after the screw connector?

Love these videos. Straya is turning into a nancy nanny state. It's now an offence to exceed the posted speed limit by 1kph (0.6mph) and you need a licence to scratch your arse, and if you go a moment without scratching it, you need to go reapply for your arse scratching license. Which means you can only legally scratch so many things because if you have too many things that itch you can't get around to all of them before the licences start becoming non current, so you gotta pick one or two and get someone else for the rest. But yea, Aussies aren't tge most cautious or analytic bunch, I'd be doin a video on the tools you're advising people to use. Just to cover your arse when some half spastic tries to use a screw driver that is designed to be hit with a hammer....

I have seen so many videos like this and all have great info, problem is when I check my switch wiring it all looks so different. I know I should get a sparky to get my job done, problem is as soon as I tell them I just want a timer added to a light swith so my streets light can come on automatically at night, they say no mate too small of a job; so here I am trying to learn

Thank you for showing people how to test for dead power instead of just showing them how to turn off a breaker. You've probably saved a couple lives here mate good on ya. most sparkies would rip into you for showing people how to do this but you're alright mate, alot of people are really struggling now adays.

Well explained. Only problem I see is that on your diagram the numeral 1 looks like the numeral 2 . Could be confusing at first glance. With electricity it's best not to be confused.

Mi have the same dimmer but I have two cores coming form the light red and white and my hard active is looped form another switches so I have in total three cables I did the exact same but it didn’t work not sure if dimmer is faulty or not.

Electricians and tradies get paid MORE than medical specialists like brain surgeons. Most get cash in hand in Australia too so avoid contributing to society through tax. I certainly can't afford an electrician to come in and replace over 24 standard lights in my place with 24 downlights. It will be exoberant. It cost $450 to replace 5 lights with downlights 6 years ago. Ah, god knows how much a large job will cost nowadays... doubtless over a grand and a half! Ill do it myself thank you, and thanks to your video. Im already on struggle street..

Hey mate, nice video. I went to rewire a light switch and discovered that I only have 2 reds (twisted together) and a white wire to deal with. Would it be safe to assume that the white is neutral and screws to the common port on the switch? The red to the top terminal 2?

Can i wire a 15amp one end and 10 amp the other? I have a 15amp coffeee machine but nob15amp sockets in my house.

I changed mine but before screwing it back in wall i tested it and it would trip the safety house power switch ...but when i screwed it back in wall then tested it the power switch dont trip ..why is this ?

I’m not an electrician and this vid was helpful in giving me an idea about how my switches have been wired (looping at the light). I’m hoping to make these switches “smart” by using Shelly 1 Plus (or similar Shelly wifi relay). Can you tell me if this would be possible with the looping at the light wiring set up??

When mounting these plug bases inside the ceiling, what is the Australian standard requirements? eg. screw directly to wood or steel trusses or battens. Under or above insulation? Clearance from other stuff like water pipes etc?

Hi, may I ask, how can I connect a type C head cable directly to main power socket without using adapter? I mean keep the type C header, remove the USB header and connect directly to main power source.

Great video with very clear information. My house has many dimmer switches installed in a new build. I have noticed that in some cases the dimmers are installed upstream of the switch, i.e. on the active side. The Clipsal installation docs clearly show the dimmer downstream of the switch, i.e on the light side, as you have done. Clearly the dimmer will still work in this non-standard configuration, but is there any downside to having the dimmer always active? Electronic fatigue and premature failure, for instance?

Mate as a retired Sparky, Yeronga TAFE 1980 to 1982, that is very informative for a lay person especially checking polarity at the end. I am about to swap out some doubles to four gang ( they were not available when I was a boy but wood blocks were still being used) so just wanted to check that it is a neat swap and ended up watching the whole video. Great video ! Quick question, have bought Clipsal Classic Series Double GPO's, and have noticed that some of my current GPOs has 15A mechs in them. the new clipsals come with 10A mechs. will a replacement from 15A to 10A be OK ?

Can you do 8 different lights with 2x2 way switches so 4 turn on off each switch 4 switches total?

For connectors. What do you think about wago 221 connector. Waiting for the day they become standard rather than the old connectors. Easier to disconnect and reconnect.

My down lights are the plug in type so i just get a new one and swap them. My old house was hard wired like these. When they died i just left them until enough of them burnt out it warranted paying an electrician to come out and replace the dead ones but doing that meant that the next time they go.... They all go..
