With a light that is one way to start with and has a red and white going to the light switch. I'm assuming the active from your mains is going to the loop in the light then (guessing) the red is going from the active in the loop to the light switch and then the white goes back to the light and into the active on the light. Am I correct that the red that is paired with the white, would be the one going to the mains?
Outstanding video the explanation of the different switch wiring types is excellent. Great to see an Aussie video with real Aussie wiring. Sorry to be a pain. Can you possibly do a video where the switch starts as a single switch and then you create a two way switch. For example the active is at switch 1 in the Common Terminal and you have a return to light wire in terminal 1 of switch 1. Then you wish to add a second switch to this set up, I need to know what wiring is needed yo be added to make this work. That would be so helpful.
Hi, thank you for posting this and the drawing. I found this really helpful. Would you be able to add to this by showing how you would add a third switch? I believe a 4-way switch is needed?
Yes you can but if your house is looped at the light it makes sense just to use what you have. What some people do when they renovate their house and add an extension is they loop it down to the switch from the light to give an active neutral and earth to the switch then wire the new extension looped at the switch.
Great question! Yes two way switches are exactly the same as normal ones. They switch from common to number 1 or from common to number 2. Intermediate switches are the ones that are different.
Great Video. From switch #1 to Switch# 2 the connection 1 to 1 or 2 to 2. What sort of wire do you use? SDI? what colour are they? and From Common @ switch#2 to Active @ Light what colour wiring do they use? Thanks
Quicker in my opinion to wire, only switch wires at the light for easy termination and fault finding, only having to use one type of cable not two. Might work out to be slightly more expensive but the positives outway the negatives. We still can wire looping at the light it's still done when rewiring old homes because you can get the twin active down the wall easier than 2c+e.
@@allelectricalau Hey mate, thanks for the reply. Super helpful and makes perfect sense. Fault finding would be easier than needing to go into crawl space everytime. I’ve always wondered how the 2 way switches work. Will be sure to check out your other videos 🙂

That was great, thanks. Now all I need is info on two lights on the same two way circuit. 🤔
Mate i love your video they are so great and easy to understand i hope you do some more soon ,
I hope to start making more soon. Just been super busy with work 👍
Thanks great watching.
Hi, thank you so much for sharing your knowledge. That is awesome.
Awesome video. So clear and easy to understand
Thanks for the comment mate im glad you liked it 👍
Very useful video. Thanks. Am a bit concerned about your use of the word 'Boom!' at 3:44.
More!!
First year here from Brissy 😊
Thanks brother for sharing your videos with us

Thats called a conversion two way. Thats on the list of videos to make. Thanks for watching!
@@allelectricalau outstanding I really look forward to it.

Great video thanks. Could you change the loop at the light to wire to the switch with a J box?

@@allelectricalau thanks a heap. Great explanation of Australian wiring. Legend
If your wanting too wire additional lights off the same switch are you just branching off with 2 core and earth from A,N and E terminals?
Are two way switches the sa.e as. Irmal switches?
Great question! Yes two way switches are exactly the same as normal ones. They switch from common to number 1 or from common to number 2.

Twin Active(red and white cable) 1 to 1 and 2 to 2. SDI( Single Double Insulated) linking Common to light.
Have you installed any dimmers on 2 way looped at the light circuits ?
Yes i have
The dimmer would go in series with the switch wire to the light. And obviously only dimmed from one point not both.
Thank you!
You're welcome!
Hey, so pretty much if I see a SDI going to the common of each switch its likely to be looped at the light?
Not necessarily it may be a two way circuit.
good job sir
thankyou!
Why is power at the light not used anymore?
Seems like You’d need much less TPS but more SDI to do it.
Isn’t that better?
