This happened to us mate, previous owners brother-in-law built the place. When wiring in the circuits they overloaded them and ended up putting 20amps in instead of the 16s. And the way the 2 circuits for power were split was straight down the center of the house which in theory was good, but when the toaster, kettle, fridge, microwave, tv, fishtank etc are all on the same one and it melted the circuits and almost caught fire. Because it tripped once or twice here and there but this one night was continuous so i called the sparky and he was pretty shocked but changed out the 16s, and now just need to turn things off more. Cheers for the video mate 👍
That doesn't sound good. Nothing should catch fire though. The fundamentals are a circuit breaker protect the cables so they don't overload/heat up and catch fire and rcds protect people if there is any potential difference and leakage to earth they should trip. For domestic applications they shouId trip if exceeding 30mA. I know in my old house it tripped occasionally, but that was because I had the microwave, kettle, and toaster on at the same time. Back in the day fridges actually use to be on their own circuit without rcd protection because they leaked current and caused intermittent tripping. Not today pretty much everything now needs rcd protection.
@allelectricalau yeh I know mate, the fella was a wanker and dodgy so who knows what they did. There is rcds there but don't know what happened. The circuits were melted but Ah righto mate the leco said they were meant to be 16s but I'd have no idea. I'm in nsw so not sure if it's different throughout aus.
@callanmurphy9807 Maybe just trip the rcds once a year with the test button and make sure they are working just in case there is something dodgy waiting to pop up.
@allelectricalau yeh we're about to sell anyway, but I can't give a problem to someone else so we'll either get it fixed or tell the new owners what it was like. Got any more video.ideas coming up? Like maybe installing a ceiling fan or air con etc if it comes up anyway. Cheers mate
@callanmurphy9807 not sure at this point I might do one on the NBN network and how to prepare and get fibre to the house instead of the old copper line. Also been thinking of product reviews to reach a wider audience anything from cool home gadgets to smart switches ect
Great video, solved all the issues in my POH

My power always trips randomly this should help me find what is causing it! Thank you
Thank you so much it was an outdoor power point!
