I did this and loved the results. However as I was cleaning up one spot I took off the base coat. Thoughts on what I may have done wrong?
Awesome video! Is it okay to paint with acrylic paints over oil wash?
Yes, just make sure they are propperly dry, leaving them over night should be more than enough
The tip on feathering seems really handy, I'll have to give it a try.
glad it was, hope you find it useful
Can anyone recommend an oil wash? Havnt used one yet.
Winzor and Newton are good, but i began with the cheapest ones i could find at an art store to begin with
@resourcefulminiatures thanks very much! Excited to try this
Hey, I just started painting minis and I just wanted to say your videos are great. Whenever I have a question it seems like you have already made a video about it.
Thank you, I made this channel with the intention of creating a sort fo library were painters can find a bit of everything. I hope you are enjoying the hobby and if you encounter something I havent made a video on, feel free to ask about it and I'll give you hand.
So this isn't really a tutorial about NMM but about achieving a smooth gradient with stippling and glazing. A tutorial on NMM would inform about *where* and *why* you chose this gradient to begin with. And 5+ layers and 10 minutes could be achieved in 2 layers and 30 seconds with wet blending.
My problem is that the contrast paints underneath is dissolving. Am i using to much spirits when i clean up when I should use no spirits at all?
Never had this problem before but i dont use contrast. Spirits shouldnt react with acrylics. How much time went by from the application of the contrast to the cleaning of the oils? some time acrylics while dry need even more time to cure. Worst case scenario you'll have to varnish in between layers
This is the best tuto on UA-cam for the NMM. So many tuto don't show the step like really how to unload the Brush etc. Crazy.
Thank you, you are very kind. More to come on the technique in the future, but will take it slowly one step at a time
It's showing how you can make a good miniature with out metallic paint.
I am way too lazy to try that.
Awesome tutorial that mere mortals can follow ❤
Wanted to make it as friendly as possible
Jose Da vinci Is so good!
One of the best indeed
In my ongoing quest to get a handle on NMM, this looks like a good technique to incorporate into my repertoire. Good video and nice, clear explanations!
Thank you very much, glad you'll consider trying it
This is an amazing tutorial! Quick, to the point and makes it look completely possible for a new mediocre painter like myself. I'm definitely going to be trying this sometime soon!
Happy you found it interesting, best of luck trying it out
Great video! Thank you
Thank you for taking the time to leave a comment :)
Interesting but I think it needs more work. The first ork just looks a mess. Less dramatic colour changes between each layer would help and possibly other techniques like feathering and blending on top. More dilution so stipling with glazes would have worked better as well.
Fantastic technique, the results are excellent!
Thank you very much
Why i make more Work If i can use metallics?i dont understad the think...
I used to think the same way so i get it. For me personally, as i became more of a pinter than a gamer I delved into it in search for new challenges, I still mostly use true metallic for gaming pieces
It's an aesthetic choice. In my opinion metalics can look flat, this adds much more dimension.
Thank you. Great video.
Thank you, very happy to hear the videos are helpful to the commuity
Beautifully done and great explanations. Awesome video
Thank you very much, you are very kind
👍
😁
Awesome and still simple tutorial! Thank you so much!
thank you for taking the time to comment, Im glad you liked it
Crazy timing I was literally looking for this video from you last night because I really liked your OSL explanations and I was hoping you had an NMM video lol
Happy you enjoyed the previous content, while delve into more advanced nmm as time goes one but i hope this serves in the mean time
Im a bit late but I absolutely love this paint job, is there anyway you could provide the paints used, sure you provided for skin which I was very happy about but the other colours for clothing hair etc I loved. you may not see this comment though.
i see all comments, all colors are from vallejo: hair-turquoise and blue green pants-violet red and magenta(darkening the stripes with black) leather-german black brown and wolf grey(glaze of dark rust for color and black at the end)
👍
🤙
Great video! Where did you get the mini from?
thank you, its from titan forge "mortal enemies"
awesome tutorial! when would you recommend painting the details of the model? for example if i wanted to paint the mask, the crown or the logo on the chest. would it be after or before the shown process?
I would do it first, darken down the model to set the night ambience and work on the osl at the end. Thats the process I've used for the previous OSL brush only tutorial, but i hadnt integrated the moonlit effect on them(this video was the first iteration, something simple). Moving forward ill look to do a propper moonlit effect tutorial. For now id suggest you chek out the start of the old OSL tutorials were I do some bright basecoating before tuning everything down. Hope this was helpful
@@resourcefulminiatures awesome, ill check those then...thanks!
I learn so much from you. Thanks for uploading
Thank you, comments like yours really motivate me to try and improve with every video
Beautiful piece of work 😍😍
Thank you!
Awesome paint job! Can you tell me which paints did you use for each step?
to be honest the video is so old I dont remember 🤔
where is the model from?
claymore miniatures
That wath i was looking for thx
Glad the video was helpful
LAVAAAAAAAAAAA! 😘👍👍👍
😉
Having my morning coffee, discovering this channel :) For once grateful for the YT algo
Thank you, you are very kind
LAVA BASE!!!! Love your videos.
Thank You!
Okay. That's really cool... Every time I see this sort of thing I feel like I need to get an airbrush. Edit: I hadn't finished the video when I entered this comment.. So. Yes. Mission Accomplished.
😁
Good tutorial!
thank you
Hey this looks great! I want to do a whole army in moonlight+torch osl. How would you paint do a moonlight miniature?
video on that coming out tomorrow 😁 and supper easy method
@resourcefulminiatures Amazing!!!
Please what's the base coat u skip over it tks
which one in particular? you mean the specific color?
@@resourcefulminiatures yes thank u
@@charlesrestivo870 the basecoat was black craft paint applied by brush, nothing fancy, just a sloppy base to give something for the paints to hold on to
@@resourcefulminiatures tk u
What an amazing idea with the oil washes and they look great
thank you very much
About to dive in to oil washes. Great video.
thank you, there amore recent longer version if youd like to check that out
What an excellent and quick yet informative video!
Thank you very much
I tired oil paints after watching this. I painted some 10mm warmaster miniatures and it worked perfectly. The tiny crevices held the oil amazingly. I can’t imagine doing it any other way now
Very happy to hear the video was helpful, thank you for sharing it :)
Maybe an stupid question but what kind of sponge is that? Ive trying to do similar effect but mine paints too much, even after dropping almost all paint on a surface
i got it from packing, mybe your paint is tood diluted and some gets trapped deep in the sponge?
@@resourcefulminiatures It's like it's very porous, maybe I should try a metallic or more rigid one?
@@VikkeDD maybe sand the sponge to break it up? to make sure the paint is not the problem try doing the same with an old brush with split bristles if you have one
Amazing video. So focused and informative.
Glad you enjoyed it
Very nice mate 😊😊
thank you
loved it. thank you

OUTSTANDING.
