Apparently, the Disney archives has segments of the script but an entire draft no longer exists due to a fire that took place in Huxley’s writing space.

It's too bad that Selick isn't more recognized for it but with it having characters created by Burton after he directed Batman, let alone also Beetlejuice and Edward Scissorhands, let alone also a second even more recent Batman film, he had to know the film would be marketed, and even reviewed, yes as from the director of Batman.

It is worth noting that not all of the shorts shown in House of Mouse were Mouse Works or Classic shorts. Of the 128 shorts shown on House of Mouse, 95 came from Mouse Works, 9 were Classic shorts, and 24 (18.75% of the total) were new shorts not previously seen elsewhere. Also, fun fact: There are only two Mouse Works shorts which were not featured on House of Mouse: "Minnie Takes Care of Pluto" and "Pluto Gets the Paper: Vending Machine". Don't get me wrong, it sure was a very interesting experiment for Burton and all, that's what I thought after watching Hansel and Gretel, but like Disney and Burton himself concluded, it just wasn't it. I watched this movie a lot as a kid and now realize how terrible it is.

Honestly I'm wildly surprised that this movie got made given its content. But having said that the Black Couldron was made too and Disney were experimenting with darker themes. Its still a fairly great stand out movie, and i do love tge 1900s styalisation.
