Actually, it is not jarring. Anime artstyle that we know and love today was initially influenced by Walt Disney artstyle. Osamu Tezuka, The Father of the Anime, used Disney-like artstyle a lot in his anime, including Astroboy, Dororo, Triton Of The Sea, Black Jack and Kimba The White Lion. Later anime authors' artstyles were influenced by his artstyle, among the authors whose artstyle was influenced by Osamu Tezuka are Go Nagai (Devilman, Mazinger Z and Cutie Honey), Monkey Punch (Lupin III), Hayao Miyazaki (Princess Mononoke, Spirited Away and My Neighbor Totoro), Tetsuo Hara (Fist Of The North Star), Akira Toriyama (Dragon Ball), Rumiko Takahashi (Ranma ½, Urusei Yatsura and Inuyasha), Yoshihiro Togashi (Yu Yu Hakusho and Hunter x Hunter), his wife Naoko Takeuchi (Sailor Moon), CLAMP (Cardcaptor Sakura, Magic Knight Rayearth and XXXHolic), Masami Kurumada (Saint Seiya), Kentaro Miura (Berserk), Capcom (Street Fighter) and Gainax (Neon Genesis Evangelion)

@@tijanamilenkovic3425Yup, and many other series too. How Tezuka drew and wrote his manga made a huge impact on how manga and anime created by other creators. We wouldn’t even have the stuff of Kingdom Hearts even though it’s a video game franchise. There could be an anime series or movie in the works since it was announced that Disney is working on something involving it. Another thing that’s confirmed is an anime series that will be on Disney+ will be based on a mobile game called Twisted Wonderland in collaboration with Aniplex and Yana Toboso, the creator of Black Butler, who does the character designs and the story. It was only confirmed for Japan and other parts of Asia so far, but fingers crossed that it will come to the US and other parts of the world since the game is also available in English in North America and Australia.

@@Brandebury When a whole franchise builds it's entire foundation on the theme of family and not leaving someone behind and then doing that, kills the message. And the reason for not talking is just plain stupid, Nani needed help with her baby so calling your closest friend in the world was off the table, or contacting Jumba or plekli or the council woman. It seemed as though Lilo didn't even try and just gave up. It wasn't even an organic spilt like drifting apart they just missed one meeting and then proceeded to not speak to each other for I'm assuming is 10 to 15 years.

Personally, I consider the Japanese and Chinese shows to be alternate universes, simply because it just doesn't sit right with me that Lilo and Stitch would ever grow apart like that. They can make as many Stitch spinoff shows as they want and they can keep on changing what country he lives in and who his human companion is, but he never left Lilo or Hawaii in the primary canon. That's how I like to think of it, anyway.

...but season 3 is so goofy and bombastic, and the english dub nears PG Ghost Story levels of tounge in cheek that I just have a huge soft spot for it, even if it feels the most brand and fan-service driven.

Your wrong. The REUNION BETWEEN STITCH AND LILO IS A LOT MORE SADDER THEN YOU REALIZE!
    I’ll explain it.
Lilo was accepted into space academy in space becoming the first ever earthling to attend( that’s the reason of 4 years. However as soon as Lilo returned her older sister immediately went into labor. Lilo had to choose between the TWO FAMILY MEMBERS SHE REALLY CARES ABOUT! She had faith that stitch would understand. After being too late stitch took it as a betrayal and that did a reboot of his system which lead to the chase we see at the beginning of Stitch!
Because stitch wasn’t there Lilo took it as a betrayal as well. And eventually had a daughter herself. Lilo’s daughter knows stitch is real although Lilo deny it because it is too painful for her. You can see they make up at the end and promises another reunion.
2 years later yuna, blinkly and Jumba travel to Japan and surprise Lilo as she becomes the first ever earthling to join the space force. And you won’t believe who told them. Gantu

I was always a fan of this series and thought it was pretty underrated, it helped that I started watching it during a time where I was on a big "Lilo and Stitch" phase and was ready eat up whatever I could from it, and I thought as more experiments started showing up, the better it got for me, especially when the more evil experiments started showing up, 627/Evile's grand return arguably giving him a bit more character and even giving him a way to talk, Cyber or Zero was crazy and it was cool that some were essentially from Jumba's past coming back to haunt him (Cyber/Zero being a precursor to the numbered experiements and Delia being an old business partner creating her own experiment, Dark End), and I also just really liked Dark End, they're adorable, polite and extremely dangerous, making a fool out of everything in their path, and feeling pretty intimidating when those extra arms come out, and then seeing Stitch essentially go Super Saiyan on them, IDK, maybe I was just more into living in the moment with it, but I just really had fun with it. If only there was a new lilo and stitch tv series that takes place after leroy and stitch and it reveals that all these other spinoff series were infact kinda canon. As in something happened to our stitch and he got cloned, but because the clone was a failure; was sent back to earth and landed in another part of the world, with some memories of our stitch.
This would confirm they are kinda canon and not; however the cameo of lilo in the japanese spinoff is hard to ignore or write around without sounding like a stretch. You could say that lilo was actually a spy sent by the bad guy who was cloning stitch to check up on him, pretending to be lilo to make sure he stays there and his fragmented memories would accept it. But then you have pleakly, jumba, gantu and hamsterwheel around; so unless they are imposters/spies themselves, it's hard to write around that. (Even if they were revealed to be spies, it'll sound pretty forced)

Ah Japan… never change. It was quite a humorous and bizarre fork for the famed blue furred extraterrestrial, each with their unintentional hilarious moments. But on another note, it was quite a surprise to listen to home hit tunes and get to know some artists (The Pillows did one with Rodeo Star Mate). The 2010s were such a wild ride, and even wilder since the English dub got to Australia first back in the day.

In the english dub they throw in a line about him being dishonorably discharged for bad karaoke.
In the original Japanese script there just isn't an explanation. Personally I take it as a sign that the first two seasons weren't intended to be a continuation, and the idea to try and tie it into the Lilo & Stitch continuity was a 3rd season thing.

My Most Favorite Epic *Disney's Lilo & Stitch* franchise throughout the years are:
    1. Lilo & Stitch (Movie)
    2. Stitch! The Movie
    3. Lilo & Stitch: The Series
    4. Leroy & Stitch ( The ONLY reason why I Absolutely Love that Movie SO much from my Childhood Years, is cause' of the Disney Villian in that film, who happens to be the Evil, Heartless, Bruteful, Merciless, Malevolent Malicious Clone, Twin Brother, Archenemy and Worthy Adversary of that Film, Leroy. Leroy is one of THE Best Evil Disney Villains I've ever seen!! He could've MORE Popular in the Disney Video Game franchise, like *Disney Heroes: Battle Mode, Disney Mirrorverse, Leroy's Costume in Disney Universes, Disney's Tsum Tsum: Party Time!, Disney's The Sorcerer's Arena and Disney Speedstorm!* Leroy is WAAAAAAAAAAAAY better than Dr. Hamsterviel! I much prefer Leroy to be THE Best Epic Disney Villains of All Time over Hamsterviel!)

I like the anime but the explanation behind Lilo’s absence never sat right with me, it’s just so melodramatic and could’ve been resolved with one phone call. The explanation should’ve just been something simple like they’re actually still in touch but busy with their respective lives, it’s realistic and could lead to a lesson like “even if family lives far apart they can still be there for each other in other ways” or something like that.
