The EC2 is Better than the DeathAdder in several Ways that Matter

Just a casual comparison between the EC2 from Zowie and the DA V3 from Razer. Both have distinct advantages, but I would argue in the core ways that matter most the EC2-C is the more refined product.

    Please tell me you have tried the Logitech G400 / MX518? Big, ergonomic, and designed for straight-on palm grip. I have large hands and prefer my G400 over the DA and EC1/2. My son loves your videos, and due to this video, I recently bought my son the Deathadder v2 pro, and so far, he has been stoked. I dont quite understand all the terminologies, but he says it boils down to his large hands fitting around it in a frankenstein palm-claw grip, and there apparently isnt much delay. I really love the V2 shape - I think that mouse is flawed in some ways and I’ve talked about that before but the core shape they’ve got going is really comfortable for palm grip and sort of medium larger hands imo - very unique ergo. Kinda sad they took the direction they did since the V3 is almost more of a Mamba successor maybe than a DeathAdder one.

      I hear you man, good points. Lately I've been hearing good things about the Nuphy Halo 75 V2s, not so much because they're the best boards around, but rather because the price point is lower and people like the Ghostbar. I'm curious to try Melgeek's boards eventually. I really don't understand why it's so hard to get a prebuilt board that nails its stabilizers/lubes them properly from the get go. Seems like we've been dealing with "ticking" and "rattle" for years and years and unless you deal with it yourself (often it's quite a pain if you go for the holee mod full shebang) you'll be dealing with it some degree or another with most of these prebuilts, even the expensive ones. Seems like by now one of these companies should've designed/incorporated a stabilizer set that's manufactured with a built-in holee mod type solution and proper lubricant -- something in that vein to solve ticking and rattle comprehensively. I see you've got a GMMK2 vid on your channel! Will check that out tomorrow after work. Have a great week man

    Wrong title, should be V2 pro vs V2. V3 is what I wanted to watch, considering that for me Razer killed the Deathadder line with this V3 version. No RGB, completely killed the ergonomics, it looks like a complete bland mouse in my opinion. V2 is the last good version that won't cause issues with switches overtime. It's funny how people glorify removal of RGB and other features and the shape just to save 10 grams of weight that you don't even notice and they bumped the price even higher despite using less material. V3 is such a bad mouse it's unreal in my opinion that there are no reviewers calling out Razer for this.

  • @BlindBison

    Clarification: --> Having one's pointer finger rest right against the scroll wheel has some advantages in that it makes it very easy to get on top of the wheel comfortably. Usually I wouldn't note this is as a problem, but in the DA V3's case my unit's scroll wheel is so loose/light on actuation force that having my pointer rest against the wheel results in accidental misscrolls sometimes. The other reason I think this is a bit more of an issue on the DA V3 than the EC2-C is because if you flip both mice over the DA V3 seems to have a slightly more aggressive flairing on the bottom for its left side on the thumb groove and this naturally tilts my hand a bit more than the EC2 when using a palm/relaxed fingertip grip such that my pointer is moreso pushed into the wheel.

    • @BlindBison

      I have a few wireless mice including the wireless white DA V3, but I don't mind cables too much provided it's a good one like the DA V2 speedflex (not the DA V3 cable) or the EC2-C cable. On the other hand the Outset AX cable for my unit is like a stick, absolutely awful cable on an otherwise fantastic mouse (probably the best build quality for the shell/clicks I've ever seen is my Vaxee Outset) and the DA V3 cable is also very irritating for me. One thing I'm sort of paranoid about is what happens to my wireless mouse once the internal battery dies -- usually that's a problem for years down the line and something else is likely to break first, but it's part of why having a good connecting cable still matters to me on wireless mice since if I want to play wired to charge or if down the road the battery goes to crap with a good cable might not be too bad really (some wireless mice sadly have way worse cables than their wired versions, the DA V2 vs DA V2 Pro is an example of this). And yeah I hear you -- for the DA V3 ledge, I actually think it feels very natural provided your fingers aren't coming off the end and resting on that harsh edge. More natural than the EC2-C ledge curve in fact. "But" I have really wide hands such that most ergos are too narrow and when that happens the only way to really palm/relaxed finger tip them comfortably for me is to choke up on them more at which point my fingers basically always come off the end and it feels terrible for me. Mainly I just think that making that ledge end slant back rather than going all the way to the end of the click and then leaving it a raw edge instead of more gracefully rounding it off is a design error since implementing those changes would probably hurt no existing users while making the mouse far better for users with big hands who like the grip I do. I don't want to miscommunicate though, I do think overall the DA V3 is a really good mouse.

      @BlindBison 2 місяці тому

      It depends a lot on one’s preferred grip type and your hand size. For either smaller (or more narrow) hands or someone clawing for example those issues may not be noticed anywhere near as much. The thing is, elongating the ledge at least to the end of the click then rounding it off like Vaxee / Zowie do and improving that connecting edge/piece at the bottom (smaller, rounding it like Zowie/Vaxee) would hurt nobody while making the mouse a lot better for some users. To be clear, I think the DA V3 is a great mouse - it’s just also that certain parts of it honestly feel like a prototype to me in need of further refinement in a future iteration. By comparing the mouse against other ergos, especially Vaxee and Zowie, some of those shortcomings (which may not be a deal breaker for many in fairness) become more apparent and it sort of makes me wonder if they weren’t as thorough in their user testing as they should’ve been during development. I’m really happy you’re enjoying yours! I’m super picky and sometimes wish I could just enjoy things lol. Overall it is a very good option. Sensor and weight are better than the EC2-C and it has a pseudo unibody shell as well + split trigger switches so some advantages for sure.

      @@handsomebassman No problem, I just really like mice and keyboards and it’s fun hearing about new ones from other people (then I load them up in the RTNGS shape compare tool). I own way too many and over time some things just stick out to you. Usually one mouse isn’t “better in every way across the board”, usually it’s better noticeably in some specific respects VS another which has its own pros and cons. Even this video for the DA V3 - yes I’d give the overall win to the EC2-C myself “but” the DA has a number of hard wins of its own (split trigger switches, unibody shell, the slightly larger size is a bit better for my hand size, weight, polling rate + sensor, more natural feeling ledge curve to me assuming one’s fingers don’t come off the end). I rotate between my mice a lot til one or two things irritate me then I switch lol. Right now I’m using the Vaxee Outset and that thing is extremely well built with incredible click feel (though it too has some aspects I’m not too fond of like the raised hump height being too tall imo + the wheel being not as good as Zowie’s and the cable being like a stick).

    • @BlindBison

      Agreed, in my view Zowie nails the fundamentals (click feel, great side buttons, best in class wheel+middle click, solid cable, extremely good and thoughtful shape with lots of attention to detail for the little things) -- but at the same time, they don't use a unibody or pseudo unibody shell, their shell material/texture/coating on the wired -C variant at least isn't anywhere near my favorite, and the polling rate/sensor are behind the times. Also no split trigger switches and, for me, the EC2 is a bit too small while the EC1 is a bit too large. They definitely have clear areas for improvement -- but in terms of the core fundamentals that matter most there probably isn't a mouse I respect as much thinking on it.

    • @BlindBison
      @BlindBison 2 місяці тому

      Probably the EC2-C though I alternate a good bit. The sad fact of it is the EC2 I know is a bit too small for me while the EC1 is a bit too large. For my hands, my general feeling is that a theoretical EC1.5 would be just about perfect, but that doesn't exist and other ergos similar to that are noticeably worse in other ways. The EC1 mainly just feels so tall in the hand to me that it sort of hurts of my hand to palm/relaxed fingertip grip after awhile. But the EC2-C is probably a smidge too short in length and in particular too narrow to be perfectly comfortable for my hand size/dimensions so it is what it is. Both are great mice and it sort of just depends on how big your hands are I'd say. The DA V3 has potential in the sense that a theoretical V4 could come along and fix all my gripes, but as it is now I think it's a worse mouse than the EC2-CW in terms of the fundamentals while being a better mouse in the mouse in core specs area (polling rate/sensor/weight). Another future hope would be Vaxee -- Vaxee's mice are extremely well built in my experience and I own the Outset which is a great mouse too in its own right. However that mouse the back mouse hump has a raised profile which to me is a bit uncomfortable to palm for long periods because it's just too tall imo.

      @@BlindBison Thanks, I've had an EC1 for a while but I just got the 2. And well, I'm in the same boat - 1 is too tall and 2 is a bit small. I want to try the NP-01 and Outset, if they ever restock the wired versions.

    • @BlindBison
      @BlindBison 5 днів тому

      @@Scurvyrot I recommend using the RTNGS shape compare tool - the NP-01 shape looks fantastic but it doesn’t really look to be any bigger than the EC2 (regrettably imo). Outset is a great shape but overall I think I order the EC2s core shape - the outset is a bit shorter in length and has a very raised back hump. It’s quite good, but I honestly think an EC1.5 would be better. Don’t want to undersell the outset though best built mouse I think I’ve used/great clicks/unibody shell. Worth trying imo - personally I’d prefer the mouse hump not be so raised/tall and I’d prefer the front portion where the clicks are to be lengthened out a bit but it probably depends on your hands and how you grip - I like it for claw a lot (but I don’t use claw grip I use palm as my main).

  • @Dew4lk

    tbh the more time that goes by the more i agree with this video, now im starting to think that the v3 wired is just a downgrade compared to my v2. From main clicks, side clicks, scroll wheel (too high), shape (to narrow and something is just off which i cannot describe), prefer the weight of the v2 (seems like the sweetspot, starting to agree with zowie that the lowest weight possible isnt always a benefit). I guess my endgame now is either the EC1 or dav2.

I loved my V2, best mouse i ever had, dont get me wrong there, the rubber feels soo good, but it wears off so quickly and you cant fix it. (If someone knows where the get a replacement 3D printed shell without rubber, pls tell me) In only 3 months you will notice the first wear on it and after a year there will be a "flat hole" in the rubber. Totally ruins this mouse and is the reason i would suggest you getting the V2 Hyperspeed because it has no rubber, but its plastic shell is very grippy, feels like a pbt keycap on a keyboard.

    It's all preference I guess. I love the shape, coating and click feel. The only thing that bothered me with the clicks was that the pre-travel is a bit too much so i taped them to the shell to reduce the pre-travel. That way the clicks feel really responsive especially if i directly compare them to the clicks of other mice. And that's the most important thing about the click feel to me. I agree with the stock wire though, it's way too heavy. I replaced it with a paracord. About the shape I had actually the opposite problem. I grip the mouse a bit further back and for me it always felt too long in the front and for a long time i couldn't quite tell why. But I recently removed the sticker on the bottom and experimented with the position of the mouse skates and i noticed that if I move the front skates from it's original position further back to where the sticker previously was, that "long" feel of the mouse goes away and that's how I use it now. I actually love the dav3 now, any time i try out one of my old mice again I immediately wanna go back to the dav3, it feels so much better in every way

    I love the Deathadder. I'm still rocking my Wired Deathadder 2013 (RZ01-0084). I can't believe Razer changed the shape. I don't like the V3 for that reason. I do really like the Basilisk X Hyperspeed because the right mouse button is longer which fits my longer middle finger with palm grip, and it has the ledge for your thumb to rest on. But the hump is not as big so I like on the Deathadder better to fit my large hand. A Basilisk with a larger hump would be ideal for me.

Ive played on different Systems over the years and all dropped frames for a split second - hunt just runs quirky and feels like its running not smooth even in high frames/low frametime scenarios VSync + FreeSync + 237 Fps cap has the best feeling for me but isnt perfect regarding VRAM allocation: ive noticed a new NVCP entry "CUDA - Sysmem Fallback Policy" Since i cant confirm my stutter issue is related to RAM Problems my question would be: is this new setting working for hunt?

    I have this mouse and I just cant use because how stiff the cable is, I know its needed more shielding for 8khz but I would prefer better paracord cable and only 1khz. That weight with nice cable would be much better than 8khz option.

    • @BlindBison
      @BlindBison 5 місяців тому

      Yeah, the cable is pretty bad. Not only is it shorter than the cable on the DA V2 wired it’s much stiffer and gets twisted up constantly. Very inflexible. They seem to have just carried over the cable from the wireless version where it was more acceptable since you’d be using it wired all the time (though I still value a good cable on wireless mice since you’ll likely have to play with it sometimes and eventually the internal battery will die/get bad). My bet is because of 8K polling it had to be thicker perhaps like you’re saying. Definitely an area for improvement. I’m also surprised that more mice don’t do the Zowie thing where they tilt the cable up since that means it drags on the pad a bit less. I don’t need 8K support but I would like 2K or perhaps 4K with a great sensor/implementation. Going off the optimum tech videos for wireless mice especially when you’re considering a balance with battery life it seems he settled on 2K polling after his testing.

      @@cringekid69 the shielding is not required for 8khz to work, I'm using the dav3 at 8khz with a paracord and it works. But when I ordered my paracord the guy who made it said that the cable length for 8khz to work should be max 1.5m, i think i went for 1.3m or 1.4m to be save and because I don't need the cable to be longer. And like you said, the connector is different but usually if you order from someone who sells custom paracords they have that JST connector. There are other mice that use that connector, too. i have 20.5 by 10.9cm hands. I also cannot comfortably grip in claw without my fingers trying to go under the mouse. I can play on small mice like the mz1 or starlight small just fine, but this shape just feels awkward comapred to the old deathadder. my thumb cannot hit a good spot on the left side and my fingers can never grip well on the right side. I cannot palm it, claw is uncomfortable, so i have to fingertip it. and if im going to fingertip a mouse i'd rather just play on the mz1. It's just a awkward shape unless you have smaller hands.

    • @BlindBison
      @BlindBison 5 місяців тому

      I know exactly what you mean -- I imagine it would be even a bit worse for you as your hands are slightly bigger than mine. Imo if you're looking for a good ergo take a look at the EC1-C or the wireless CW. I own one and find it to be slightly too big for me with my 19.5 x 10.5 ish hands, but for you it might work great. I mention this in the vid, but I think the DA V3 could be a lot better for people with larger hands if they simply lengthened out the finger ledge on the right side and rounded the harsh corners under the clicks that connect the front to the side pieces (eg like Zowie/Vaxee do). If you try to palm with large hands you by necessity wind up holding the mouse further forward and thus I find my fingers come off the end of the finger ledge and you feel that sharp/harsh corner which doesn't feel good. It makes me genuinely wonder if they even tested this shape appropriately it seems like such an obvious oversight imo.

      SuperLight is much smaller than the DA V2 or even the V3. It's not an ergo to boot but that's a good or bad thing depending on your preference. I found the SL comfortable to claw, but not palm for my 19.5 x 10.5 cm hands. The side buttons were hot garbage on my SL though before I sold it. Awesome feeling shell material/click feel though. DA V3 Pro I have a strong preference for the shell material/coating on the white one since it's more matte and chalky feeling VS the others which have basically the Zowie like perfectly smooth coating. Some like that, but I don't. DA V3 is a good mouse don't get me wrong, but I definitely think it falls short of its potential in a number of ways and I feel the shape would be way better for people with larger hands if they just made the finger ledge on the right side longer and rounded the edge corners under clicks like Zowie/Vaxee do.

      I think it comes down to 1) How big your hands are and 2) What grip style one prefers. I'm starting to think I just have freakishly wide hands compared to the average lol I'd be OK with the DA V3 shape if the finger ledge on the right side extended out a bit further and if they rounded the sharp corners underneath the clicks where the side pieces/ledges connect. So, basically how Zowie/Vaxee do it.

      Of course -- I certainly acknowledge if your hands are smaller than mine and if you don't hold the mouse in a palm/relaxed finger tip grip then basically none of this will apply to you. I'd still argue the mouse has some "objective" flaws in that you could lengthen out the finger ledge and round the corners under the clicks which connect the side piece/ledges (eg how Zowie/Vaxee do it) and this would make the mouse way better for people with larger hands without harming the shape in any way for other users. Beyond that the click feel/wheel feel/cable are really are subpar if you try this mouse side by side with the EC2-C (or Vaxee Outset AX specifically in the case of the clicks). Though there is unit to unit variance there to some degree there. Some people will be less bothered by these things than I am, c'est la vie

    110% Agree. Glad to see I am not the only one trying to horde this shape. Bought the razer basilisk v3 and it literally hurt my wrist. Gave my old Deathadder v2 to my son. Been on the search ever since sending the Basilisk v3 back. Not a fan of wireless mice at my desktop. I just want a solid connection I do not have to fiddle with. I didn't realize how well it fit my hand until I tried something else. I like the extra buttons as well. Wish I found this video first looks like you tried all the options for me. Interesting to note you can see the latency difference on the wireless. Maybe they are trying to appeal to a more international audience ( smaller hands ). Thanks great video. Just picked one up v2 wired for $25 bucks on ebay new 10 bucks shipping. Razor bring back the old shape for North America.

      I hear you man, I own a ton of mice and the DA V2 shape is surprisingly unique. The EC1-C is probably the “most similar” but it’s not really the same in the hand and for my 19.5 x 10.5 cm hands I find it to be a bit too big actually whereas the V2 is just about spot on in my case/for the grip I prefer. Wireless is something it took me a long time to get on board with, I was very reluctant in the past due to issues/limitations with the tech. The very most recent batch of wireless tech has gotten really good to such an extent that pro players are using them now, but the V2 is a bit older at this point. One mouse for palm grip I adore is the Logitech MX Master but sadly it’s not a good fit for gaming as it has a heinously terrible polling rate and weights a lot - it’s an office focused mouse but I do love that shape. If you know the DA V2 works for you you might be able to grab a wired version off EBay new or a refurbished from Amazon pretty cheap. I went with the Pro in part because I could actually find one new from Amazon and then also because the full rubber injected side plates are a big plus VS the standard unit. Side note the tragedy of the Zowie EC mice for me is that I love the EC2 but sadly the EC2 is a bit too small for me while the EC1 is a bit too big. If ever they make an EC1.5 / EC2L official that’ll probably be my end game.

    I bought the V3 recently and I mean, for 5 more bucks which it costs here, if the V2 Pro have been a little lighter, I would have got it, but my last 3 mice were like 60-ish so I don't think I would be comfortable on this, but the shape looks better than the V3 (I've never own a DeathAdder prior, so idk)

    • @BlindBison
      @BlindBison 5 місяців тому

      Depends on hand size and how you hold the mouse I think. Specifically for a palm/relaxed fingertip grip I have a preference for the V2 but if one has smaller or less wide hands than I do or uses a different grip type the V3 very well may be more comfortable for you. I also think it’s hard to reach the furthered forward side button on the V2 compared to the V3 with the grip type I use. The V3 is a good mouse, but I think it falls short of its potential in a number of ways (I made a video on that just recently actually). Hope you enjoy your V3! In some ways it’s excellent and generally it’s reviewed quite well.
