Rusty Restoration | Railroad Pocket Watch A Professional Watchmaker Couldn't Fix!

I attempt to restore a subscribers Burlington Pocket Watch from 1915 that had gone through the washing machine. I open the watch for the first time in 50 years and what do you think I found.....RUST! Come along and see if I can ...

    Great upload and appreciate the information you provided. Curious question, I'm a disabled watchmaker. And unfortunately I cannot restore my cleaning machine, would you by any chance take the offer to do it for me? I'm also aware your time is valuable, so I would definitely compensate you. If you cannot I'd totally understand, it would help me greatly! Thank you Sam!

    I'm surprised just how many of these tools are just a tiny press. I'd think, in this day and age, you should be able to find one tool, that takes attachments to fulfill all of these functions. Staking, Jeweling, Pushing, reaming, Hand replacing, Crystal replacement etc... I'm sure it could also be pressed into many other functions too, (drilling springs to mind)

    I love your video and your work. Very clean and professional and very informative. Started watching Marshall a few months back and enjoyed what I saw and now I'm recently getting into the hobby and I'm in love with it already. I have only taken apart one pocket watch and put back together successfully one pocket watch. It was a Lucerne antimagnetic. Unsure of the year but it was fun and scary at the same time. Curious as to what part of Oklahoma you're in as I myself am near McAlester, OK. Also, as a hobbyist video editor I admire your work. Now to binge watch all your other videos.

    It's NOT your Movement Holder that's a problem, the shape and depth of the movement doesn't play nice with the majority of my 7 movement holders from $9.99 to $127 all brass holder. Great video BTW! I started with this movement and some vintage pocket watch movements while I was 1st leaning. I'm just a hobbyist, but I've been able to service several vintage watches for friends and family including a gold plated Hamilton automatic from the 1960's and a Rolex Submariner with a 1570 movement. I don't have enough vintage parts from popular watches to do it for a profit, but I'm always open to hear where everybody in the community gets their vintage parts from? I mostly just break the watch down down, replace or recondition the crystal, clean all the parts, reassemble, oil the critical parts and jewels, and adjust the watch as best I can with a simple timegrapher. Thanks again for doing these videos! You entertaining and informative and just what a guy like me needs!!

    Most people use polywatch on their crystal with the crystal still on the watch. Polywatch is the only one out of all the profucts that's save to use it like that because the chemicals won't affect the metal of the watch. Sure you need to tape the metal so you won't polish any brushed surfaces that don't need polishing. But having a little bit of the solution getting on the metal is unavoidable. At least with polywatch you know it won't damage the metal. With the other products you're just not sure.

    • @watchasilearn
      @watchasilearn 2 місяці тому

      Thanks for watching and for the comment. None of these products are corrosive to metal and are safe to touch adjacent metal surfaces.

      @watchasilearn thank you for educating me. That is great information since the price difference in polywatch vs generic plastic polish is so significant. Maybe it is possible to get the same result with regular plastic polish by polishing longer or using a cotton wool. Thank you again!

    This works. Being that the original enamel is already gone I don’t see any reason to want to return it to that state. I use the enemal paint and wipe away the excess with a q-tip dipped in denatured alcohol. No mess and pretty quick. Do you have Instagram?
